  1. I haven't read all of this thread. That is my disclaimer. I think that Whaley assembled a better roster than we have now. I am not sure that's even debatable. The coaching will be a little better so the results will be what they will be. In general though, Whaley has proven better at assembling an NFL roster than Beane. There is a reason that the Steelers loved him. He did a decent job. He just got stuck with Rex.

Perfectly said and I agree completely.

There is more than one way to build a roster. Kiko is a below average LB and he was traded for the best player on the team now.

Whaley traded away too many picks. But without Rex, they are a playoff team last year.

  2. the new regime is being cutthroat. this is a business. i am surprised dareus still has a job...imo.. it is because of his bloated contract. it will be at least 3 years before we are able to really be respectable.

Dareus is on the team because he is the best player on defense and the second or third best player on the team if not the best.

I don't even get how Tyrod is still here. These guys clearly want nothing to do anyone that was here

Because if you let TT go then you lose the locker room. McBean do not have the credibility to do that. They haven't proven anything in this league.

Without TT, they start the season 1-7 and that trust the process **** gets real old really quick.

  3. Kiko, Darby, and Watkins were all traded for starters. That is three more starters that Whaley's draft produced.

What is the rate for other GM's?

Someone posted on here yesterday that the next two drafts would yield 10-11 starters? A great draft would produce 3 starters and a few capable back-ups.

If Watkins had stayed healthy and Whaley was allowed to pick Hue Jackson over Rex he would still be the GM.

He wasn't great but he acquired enough talent to win. He bombed on EJ and made it worse by doubling down on him succeeding instead taking another shot at drafting a capable QB.

  4. Whaley put together a roster that would have had 10 or 11 wins last year with any other coach besides Rex calling the defense. I had no problem with Rex as HC. I have no issue with his game management.

It is his antiquated defense that ruined everything. All he had to do was keep Schwartz and they are a playoff team.

So time will tell with Beane and McDermott. If McDermott passed on Mahomes and he turns out to be great then he needs to own it. That said I loved the trade down and the pick of White. Had he taken Kizer in the second round it would have been a great draft. So far Jones looks great but Dawkins looks terrible. The rest are backups, mostly undersized, and probably are gone in 2-3 years.

  5. I need to see McDermott in live action. Until then I'm luke warm. I like moving Darby. I understand moving Watkins but I want wins now and Sammy would have given them 1-2 more wins.

If Beane hoards picks and moves down in the draft then I will be fine. If he wastes picks like Whaley then I will be pissed.

So far I think McDemott is more faux disciplinarian than leader. But again I will hold judgement

  6. He lead the team in receptions last year and tied for the team lead in TDs. He also had more receptions than all but 12 other TEs in the NFL despite playing on the team that threw the fewest passes.

He hasn't been worth the money they gave him, but reports of his underachievement are highly exaggerated IMO.

Well stated. And his contract nor any other has prevented them from signing a FA - their own or anyone else's.

  7. Tommy. Tony Romo.

    Don't forget Kurt Warner

They are rare to find, but have virtually zero cost to look for them. A 6th round pick or a PS guy can't cost more than a offensive quality control person.

    Keep drafting and signing them.

RG3 is still intriguing to me. What would we have to lose?

Colin Kaepernick is far better than RG3

  8.

    Nope.

He lost out to Kizer because their performance was close enough that it was worth going with the young guy that they spent a high draft pick on, and they aren't going to pay Oz $17M to be a backup.

No reason for Taylor to go, as you can easily afford to give Oz a mid-level backup deal. He knows the offense and is clearly a better option than Yates.

Yes they will. I'm pretty sure they need his contract to be above the minimum total salary. But then I read this below. It is a four year window not a single year. But they are so far below the cap they still might need that 17 M pay out to ensure they reach the minimum over four years. And they just cut Joe Haden's 11M salary

The 2017 league year represents the start of another four-year window in which teams must spend a minimum of 89% of the cap in cash. All 32 teams met the 89% threshold for 2013 to ’16, with the Oakland Raiders the last to do so.

  9. Sad Larry Felser didn't live long enough to see this. I think Cookie was his all-time most respected player.

Respectfully disagree. No other player on the Wall only played 3 seasons, while being kicked off the team. Was he great in those 3 short seasons? Yes. So was Paup. Is he being considered?
He was a selfish player & person. Every team that signed him, quickly tired of his crap and sent him packing.

    Poor choice.

He is arguably the top 6-8 most talented player in Bills history. Kelly, OJ, Thurman, Bruce, Reed are top 4 in most peoples minds. Then comes Gilchrist, Kemp, Smerlas, Tasker, Hull and a host of others.

  10. That is what happens when you switch coaches every two years.

Agreed but how many of them deserved another year? Only Wade deserved more time in my opinion.

The correct move a few years back was to retain Schwartz as DC and hire Hue Jackson again in my opinion. This would have kept the defense intact and let Jackson focus on the offense.

I advocated for this then. But in complete transparency, I wanted Bowles over Ryan too.

  11. I was 20 min late for a meeting today. I had no good excuse. I have an important job, save lives, make a lot of money, and am a leader in my organization. I apologized to my team. We had a very productive day.

I'm an adult and was treated like an adult.

Sending home one of the most important players on your team is not discipline, it is not leadership and it certainly is not coaching. It is a publicity stunt.

I am willing to give McDermott a grace period. But I think what he did was foolish and exactly opposite of how to coach a teammate or hold a team member accountable. In fact it is basic HR and he overreached.

What happens when an assistant coach arrives late? What happens when McDermott makes a mistake?

For those professionals in the community, what do you say? How would you expect to be treated?

  12. I was told he's good enough to be our starting LT and we should move Glenn to RT....

Still the best move to put the best 5 on the field. Mills and Henderson would not start on any other team. Dawkins is not ready for either spot.

But they are committed to Dawkins at RT.

At this point I would sign CK to be the back-up LT and get rid of Mills. Henderson stays only due to the fact he doesn't take up a roster spot.

In 5 weeks, Glenn and Dawkins may be the only OT's that are currently on the team

  13. Such a weird year being the first time they can carry this many players into the final week. I don't understand it at all. Seems like a lose lose for teams and players. I think they know who their top 42 maybe 45 players are.

This may seem odd, but I would cut players 65-75 now. They have no hope of making the team. Let players 75-90 play against the Lions taking up the bulk of the snaps with the seconds and thirds. That opens up ten roster spots to make some moves.

I would cut Ducasse, a few DB's, a safety, IR settlement Yates, IR Streeter, trade Ragland, and cut one DE. That is 8 players right there.

    One down

  14. Whaley drafts looking alot worse and worse each day... Whaley was poor at drafting.. I know this was a fit for Rex D still other draft looking bad for him.

Not to mention he gave up two fourth round picks to move up and get him. Hated the move then and hate it even more now.

At least Watkins had a chance to be truly special.

I hope these new guys learn the only way to move in the draft is down
