given the fact we might be starting a rookie QB, I'd be really happy with 2-3, not surprised with 1-4, and planning on 0-5. I was dead sure we were going to kill the JEST in last year's opener, and we all know how that game went. The Pats are not vulnerable, they're the Pats, and Baltimore is defending a SB title. Until I see what this team is going to really look like on game day, I don't have a clue how we'll play. I can't wait though, more than ever I'm actually looking forward to seeing some actual progress.

I just heard it confirmed on GR this morning, they actually put up a 10 foot fence, and police will be turning people away who opt to jump the fence.

I'm going to respond to the original point of this thread and I see no reason why the Bills cannot compete for the division, but nobody is going to hand it to them, and more importantly, the teams in our division are not as weak as people think. This team needs to be more prepared, healthier, and more technically sound in order to beat anyone, and there will be times where CJ won't gain a yard, the receivers just aren't getting open, and the defense looks like they are asleep. That's inevitable, this is a new team from top to bottom and it's expecting a lot to think they'll outright win the division. Is it impossible? No, not at all, but to think the rest of our division has gotten weaker is really not the case.

I have decided to make something clear about my view after reading so much of this thread, it doesn't make anyone a troll because they liked what they saw in one player over another, in fact that's just childish to call someone that. I saw an excellent performance in one player, and a shaky one in another. I think Manuel has all the potential in the world to be a great player, and after what I saw in Tuel, I think he also has the potential to be great as well. I am not going into anything blindly about who I think would be the better QB based upon draft position, nor will I even say ione guy will fail, and the other be great after one pre-season game. It's a bunch of crap to blindly think either, or to bash anyone who wants to see the QB race to be fair and open. At this point neither guy is a sure bet, nothing in this league is. Manuel is not a sure thing to be great, nor is it a sure thing he will fail. Tuel is not guaranteed to continue to have solid games, nor is it carved in stone that because he went undrafted that he HAS to be a backup. To bash anyone who wants to see this be a fair fight is plain stupid, I think to ask any Bills fan to believe any hype after the last decade about any player is foolish. I am excited about every new player on this team, they all look explosive, and as I said before, I'd like to see both young QBs get the chance to compete for the starting job, if Manuel is a superior player, let him earn it against the competition, why is that such a horrible thing to do?

Gentlemen, it is more than likely he is retired, he said after his departure that he couldn't go in practice, but the debate on whether or not he was good seems a little harsh in this thread. I think it's fair and respectful to acknowledge he was a very good player for us, despite being on some miserable teams. When he played, he was good, being injury prone doesn't mean he sucked.

Astro-Notes: Aug 13 Practice
Homey D. Clown replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great post, I wish there were more threads like this with solid information, and actual full words to read(i hate text-speak). I'm looking forward to more... -
It's been my experience that if you write a well thought out idea that might oppose common opinion around here, you'll get flamed. I agree with you 100% on what you wrote, but people will bash you anyway. I was under the impression that a lucid, well thought out debate topic could be discussed around here, but I was wrong more often than not, so I learned to speak internet-bully sarcasm so i didn't stand out so much, and adopted the phrase: "Homey don't Play 'dat"!!!!

Now only if the Patriots took your approach we'd never have had to get our @$$es handed to us for the majority of the last decade+.... This is a legitimate statement being made by the OP, and I can't say it didn't cross my mind either. Until you find out properly, there's no way to know. This isn't a knock on EJ, but Tuel did look far more poised in that first pre-season game, so it's fair to see what he can go against #1s. And I was thoroughly impressed with his ball placement and grasp of the offense.

I was stated pretty early on when he first injured his hamstring that he probably wouldn't play in any games until the opener.

Bills ranked 29 out of 32 in new poll
Homey D. Clown replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hope the team gets ranked 41 out of a possible 32 because I could care less what preseason rankings are. -
Is Jeff Tuel the reason for T. Tax departure?
Homey D. Clown replied to Cheddar's Dad's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Looking back on this thread, it would be easy to say yes Tuel was a factor at the time, but I'd be more willing to say that Jackson's release was due to his limited talent/upside. He has not shown consistency or any real leadership at the position, and has been bounced around the league a bit. That coupled with a new coaching staff wanting to groom their own group of QBs may actually be the real reason. Start completely fresh at the position. -
They looked aggressive and more physical than in recent years, but as a whole, I didn't seen them stopping the run very well on the first unit. I am even more concerned with the swiss cheese secondary.

Little league coach for several years, good catch BTW, but I recorded the game and spent more time than I care to admit watching those first few series haha!! I do enjoy the offensive side of the ball on a technical level and have spent(wasted) even more time over the years learning what is happening once the ball is snapped...

Yes, the plays called were multiple receiver read options, with the dumpoff as the safety valve, he gave up on his downfield receivers too soon early on, and I am saying it's not a big deal due to his inexperience and some jitters. On the other hand, they were holding back a lot of the offense's complexities for both QBs as was the defensive coordinator. How I ascertained this confidence was by watching where EJ was trying to look as the play developed, and before his receiver's routes even had time to develop, the ball was out to the checkdown. This is not a knock on EJ, I think he played quite well not even counting the 2 minute drill, and I credit my opinion to how well he seemed to carry himself and move on to the next play with more and more confidence. This was the first ever NFL game for him and I thought it was a good start.

I'll toss in just one: Helped: Marcus Easley Hurt: Da'rick Rogers Easley looked every bit a starter in this league, where as Rogers looked lost at times, and overwhelmed.

What stood out most in my mind is the depth of quality players we seem to have this year. Preseason games have been so miserable for so many years due to the lack of depth anywhere. If anything this alone has me pretty excited, since so many players outperformed a playoff team in the 2nd half.

I think the Bills should move him out, and I think any player with Eugene Parker as an agent should be traded as well(See alex Carrington). It is becoming painfully clear that this guy has only one agenda, and it's to constantly hold his players out for money. Why waste time developing a guy when you will ultimately lose him over a contract situation...

Marcus Easley makes the team
Homey D. Clown replied to Donald Duck's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I saw Easley in practice in his rookie season before he had to leave to have his knee repaired, then wacthed the kid all through his second season right up to his performance in one preseason game, and the point I am trying to make is that he simply stands out every time he's been given the chance. I see an NFL caliber receiver in this kid, and he seems to really work hard and has good knowledge of the offense no matter who has been calling the plays. Now with all that said, this has been only one preseason game, but I am now beginning to expect strong performances from him and think he will make the team, and even be awarded the #3 or #4 receiver spot. Time will tell... -
He did re-position Easley once, but that was coupled with an audible, and Easley ended up with a catch on that play.
