First, let's differentiate between "reporting" and "opinion." There wasn't a report stating he was gone, only an opinion by Felser. The only thing I'd say is that Felser is saying TD is a goner and he's about the only media member in this town with any credible reputation, although only now a Sunday columnist. And my bet would be that he's close to a lot of people in the NFL and at OBD, including RW. Sullivan and Gaughan are hacks. I'd put my money on Felser before anyone in the national media, and I hate the local guys so that says a lot.

A couple things on this one. First, I'm an urban planner and therefore a realist. Our waterfront IS a mess. We DO have a control board operating in some form in our city and county. Our leadership is pathetic, underskilled and over-matched. We need govt reform, bad. We need hired city (in all munis actually) and county managers with proven and successful track records of reform and cost savings and better service delivery at lower costs. Elected officials are usually unprepared to deal with tough issues and make tough decisions. The county fiasco is a perfect example. But I love this place! But if given the chance, I'd move to Boston in a minute. Downtown, Beacon Hill, Bay Back, Cambridge have it all. Great corner bars (The Sevens on Charles is great), great open space, walkability, economic and job growth. Was there two weeks ago for a conference and hated coming home to this disaster. Again, if the situation here was equal in terms of taxes and govt, who'd leave? But they aren't and I'm afraid never will be. I've dealt with our leaders, they're spineless, self-serving dimwits. Why waste the prime years of your life clinging to a 1000-lb anchor heading to the bottom of Lake Erie when the opportunities abound elsewhere? That's not a shot, but a realistic question, and one mosy young people are answering with their feet. So they guy from Seattle has it right in some sense. He got out early before the hooks got in him. But if you let them sink in and infect you, you're done! This place grows on you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's a better idea, don't go to the game! Oh, but you haven't the guts to really make a protest with your wallet. See, it's incentives that make people do what they do. And the deal is, people buy have the tickets and won't waste them buy not going. However, wouldn't an empty stadium be more of a protest? Any true protest or rebellion calls for one to throw his own agenda and make personal sacrifices for the greater good. But like every politician in WNY, no one has the guts to stay home because of money! Another ill-conceived, weak, lame protest attempt probably by the same people who complained with every fiber of their being about their local politicians and then didn't have the fortitude to vote in a newcomer. So the bottom line is... you get what you deserve and vote or pay for! And you know what, a new GM and HC won't change my feeling on this team. I'll buy my tickets for a couple games next year regardless. It's about the only place in the town where people come together and enjoy being Buffalonians. It's a community thing, or as we planners say, sense of place. I feel it in the parking lot more than anywhere I go in WNY.

Skewed? Are you a moron? You can't skew facts, which he is reporting. You can skew an opinion to one side or another, but not facts. The guy is a journalist, not a Conservative on some radio show. Bottomline is, Moulds got what he deserved. Can't stand to see your replacement ourshine you, so cry like a baby. See ya..........

Guy doesn't run hard or with authority. It's almost like he's not trying. Once he gets close to the line, he gets swallowed up. Sorry, but he's overrated and under-motivated. Haven't like him one bit this year.

Why does this team continue to treat people
zonabb replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, I think the fact that the problems are move evident in the free agency era reflects more on the "me" attitudes of the players rather than ownership and management. Players no longer have any loyalty so they have no problem being outspoken, outlandish, selfish detractors from the concept of "team." Players are employees, management and ownership are the employer. The relationship is no different than the real word. But for some reason, everyone wants to allow athletes to steer the ship. If you're in a non-management position in your job, do you make the calls on what you do everyday or how you are used? Or is that made by someone above you. And if you post a complaint about your boss on the board in the lunch room, are you free from repercussion? -
Wow..............where to begin? Socioeconomic analysis is one of the major tasks of my job. That begin said, this discussion won't be clarified on this board. However, there have been some good points made and I wanted to add a couple: 1. Total population is the key factor for the league. Like one posted said, 10% of 12 million is greater and 45% of 1.2. Still, the loyalty in Buffalo, the sales of Bills merch make it highly unlikely this team ever leaves. 2. One thing that always annoys me when people discuss the Buffalo pop is that they use the Erie and Niagara county pops only, making it about 1.2+ million. But when people in the medie us the pop of other areas, they're using a much larger area. If you took into account the square miles they use when talking about NYC, LA or Atlanta na dused it for Buffalo, you'd encompass a much larger area that would include a great deal of Southern Ontario and greater Rochester, making our the actual marketable and game-attending population in excess of 2.5 or 3 million. 3. The media. It sucks in these types of analysis and holes and usually be blown into their discussion. Case in point: This week Scott Burnside did an story on ESPN.com re attendance in southern hockey markets and traditional hockey markets. His whole intent was to show that hockey is strong in the south. He then went on to post average attendance figures for Atl, Nash, and Carolina. All in the 14,000 range. He then used Buffalo, NYI and Pitts average. However, he stupidly used Buffalo with an average af 15,000+ but tried to justify it being on the list by saying the team had an "embarassing announced attendance of 8,200+" for a game against Washington. However, he failed to figure it out or probably more likley just didn't mention it because the game was in ROCHESTER. But to prove his point (and he lives in ATL), he tried to twist data, and he did it poorly. 4. Most importantly, Buffalo draws more with less. And that shows strenght. I forgot the numbers but I crunched them for ATL, Nash and Raleigh-Durham and each of those areas have exploded pop wise since 1990, all with double-digit increases. Buffalo has lost pop, yet we're outdrawing those NHL teams. So, where's the stronger market?
-
Saw the whole thing. Willis was taunting them during the TV TO, making these gestures to them and seemingly being a little to brash for someone who averaged, what was it, 3 yards a carry with no TDs and very little impact. But anyway, he was pretty funny and I was shocked after his little routine that he got left in there beacuse I knew he was in for it on the next play. And sure enough, they went right after him! Then karma reared its head and he fumbled. I like the guy, but he should do more running with his feet than his mouth until he wins something.
-
So if he runs out of bounds, the clock stops but restarts on the reset? But if he stays in bounds, the clock still runs? Is that correct? I'm not expert, I only post on these boards! If so, Kings assessment seems legit then, that Staley was smart to stay in bounds to keep the clock running since it doesn't stop on a tackle inbounds, rather than run out of bounds and allow it to stop, no matter how long it stops for. Therefore, even though it would be restarted upon reset of the ball, that would save time for the Packers.

Bills need a QB with talent/leadership = Brees
zonabb replied to Mr. T's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, the problem with the entire premise is that if you read enough, you'd know that Rivers is the one who'll be gone. Winning matters more than money to some GMs and owners and in SD they realize that with Tomlinson, you have to take your shot now, as opposed to a step back with Rivers. As we know, guys with no NFL experience rarely win. It's well know that they're prepared to walk away from Rivers. -
What a ridiculous stance this RTConnor or whatever has taken. You're right, there is no argument to be made. Brady is the best QB in the game right now. WHo has more Super Bowls in the last 10 years? Sure, you can say "well, it's a team, game." But this isn't a team argument, it's a QB argument, so anything relating to his team is null. The bottomline is that decision-making, management and intelligence are what makes him great. He makes the big plays when he needs to, has a knack for limited errors and mistakes and plays intelligently, meaning he knows when to throw our of bounds, take a sack or throw under to a TE. That's what makes him good. Forget the stats, the arm stregnth, the fact that he's a so-called "pretty boy" (not my quote so don't hold me too it), it's the intangibles. See, everyone hates the guy IMO for one simple reason (aside from the fact that we're Bills fans!), he's not a gambling gunslinger. He's cerebral and that goes against the perception of what a QB is and should be. Drew Bledsoe, Jim Kelly, Dan Marino, Peyton Manning, and on and on.... where are their titles? But if I said it once, I've said it a million times. Give me intelligent, studious, passionate, selfless players over stats and rep guys anyway. I'd love someone to prove my hypothesis that NE has the highest either average team IQ or Wonderlic score.

has his tongue so firmly up the Patriots collective arse it's disgusting. This guy comes out with his rankings this morning and the Pats are 5th. Yeah, 3-3 and their 5th *has 3-3 San Diego 2nd). But the funniest thing is later in his lenghty useless ranting that I'll never read again (he was the last guy I thought was worth reading and now he's shot) he contradicts himself in his think he didn't like when he says the Pats need more than Bruschi since thye gave up 237 rushing yards yesterday. You want some syrups with those waffles? The bottomline is, as a former reporter you can trust me, these guys don't bring anything to the table we can't figure out ourselves. Stop reading and listening. They're worthless. Here's the guys I hate the most who cover football.... 1. Schopp... total Napolean-complex afflicted tool with very little true knowledge of football Xs and Os and a overly worrisome "the Bills are trying to screw us" mentiality. I hate to break it to him, they owe you nothing. You're not covering politics (you'd get you lunch eaten by real journalists, like you probably had done to you in school). If he got his nose out of the Elias Sports Bureau books and thesaurus and actually brought something more than his big mouth, useless stats and linguistics t the table, he might be good. There is potential there. Just too much misdirected anger and resentment to provide any real, meaningful insight. 2. Jerry Sullivan... Mr. Surly wishes he could get into a market that matter, preferably his hometown Boston market. But his lack of people skills (which I had the misfortune of experiencing first hand), utter distain for anyone who disagrees with him (Schopp is of the same school) and complete lack of thorough knowledge of any sport that matters. College backetball doesn't matter here! 3. Sean Salisbury. What can I say. Complete retard.
-
Schopp rots. Like I always say about people who cover sports, it's my Allen Iverson retort........ It's a game. It's a game. It's not like it's real life, it's a game! We're talking about a game! I was a reporter and started in local high school sports and quickly realized, what a waste of a career, covering something as meaningless as sports. So I quit. It has no measureable effect on anyone's life. The profession is popualted with blowhard former high school bench warmers trying to live vicariously through their career. It's strictly entertainment and to get as worked up about is as tools like Schopp is disgusting. Don't give the guy so much credit. If he was as smart and motivated as his linguistic skills and stat-regurgitation has you believing, why is he working in Buffalo? I can read a dictionary as well and spoend my pathetic life disgesting stats. But who cares. It's all so meaningless, which is why I stopped listen to sports radio. I mean, he can dish all the crap on professional football players, because somehow criticizing them is OK. So Mike, how great are you? You're not even in the big leagues. This is the minors. And last I looked, this is a one station town, not exactly the place where someone with credibility and skills gets noticed for rising to the top! I'd put my vocabulary, math, stats and masters degree against this tool anyday. But you what, I could care less. The difference is, he thinks he knosw everything, and I know I don't. But I do know more than him! Don't shortchange yourself. Call this jerk and stand up for yourself. If he hangs up, you won! That's his reply when he knows he's wrong. He uses his radio signal as his fists, he's the bully. Man, he must have been such a dork in school, which is why it's payback time for the pro athletes and callers.

Just signed on to smear this O-line. I've been saying it for years and it rings true this year again. This Oline is the biggest weakness. Miami's Oline kept them in the game because it gave the QB time and opened holes for the running game. Until this GM gets it through his head that you start with the OL and work from there, they'll never win. Second-rate FA linemen and a complete lack of drafting aptitude when it comes to the OL makes this team useless.

I believe Schoop did grow up here, in fact I know he did. The other day he was walking about going to games when he was a kid. But he's a tool anyway, everyday I leave work in Cheektowaga near the airport and by the time I'm onto the 90, I've turned him off. He's as arrogant as they come. But like I've said time and again, 1) he covers a freakin' game and 2) if he was so smart, step into my world. I left sports journalism because, frankly, it wasn't challenging enough and is so irrelevant. But Schoop, and I've met many guys like him in my time, like to get morons on the phone and berates them, it makes him feel good. Pumps his fragile ego. But as soon as someone who can outwit, out-sematic and over-analyze him, he hangs up. He is undoubtedly the biggest hypocrite to come along in local sports radio in years. But what I find most hypocritical is that this guy and everyone else in local sports media cracks the GMs coaches and player of our local teams for not winning or being the best, accusing them of mismanagement, ill-concevied ideas, poor marketing, etc. And yet, these guys aren't even working in a top 25 media market. So how good are they? They'll the minor leagues but for some reason, it still provides them the right to be critical of others? Doesn't make sense. I will give him this, he is more professional than anyone on that station, especially that homer Bulldog. I have a degree in journalism and left that career because it's filled with dirty money and payola. But one thing that fries me is homerism. At the same time, Schoop and the rest of the guys on that channel have it out for the Bills for one simple fact, that they feel they have a RIGHT to unlimited access to player, coaches and personnel, as well as injury reports, financial statements, time cards, vacation request.... you get the point. But what they fail to realize is that they aren't covering government. The team owes them nothing. They are privileged enough to get free pass and food for each game and that's it.

I'm about at the end of my survivor pool life. This league has too much parity. I'm out thanks to St Louis. Two years ago, Miami did me in on opening week. All the analysis has been removed, too much luck. So, that's it for me.

(OT) Sabres PreSeason Ticket Deal- not
zonabb replied to kasper13's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Because that's probably the price if you buy them at the window or maybe through Tops. But you always get hosed on the inline purchase. Still $11 isn't all that bad. -
First off, I as a lifer in this wing-infested town, I've had my fair share. But I went to the Anchor Bar for the first time last month when a friend came home to visit and had to go to Duffs. But we had a screaming two year old and the wait this Saturday night was about an hour. So we went to Anchor Bar for the most overrated, dry, sauceless wings I'll ever had. Terrible. All four of us walked out of this tourist trap vowing to never return. Duffs, IMO, can't be beat. If you're getting soggy wings, learn how to order. Call this concept crazy, but you can order them any way you want. Get then crispy, like I do. Order them with extra or light sauce. Nice order of fries with a side of gravy and you have a Buffalo-heart-attack ready to roll.

Which newspaper offers the best Bills coverage?
zonabb replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Surely not the Lockport Scum & Urinal, Tonawanda Snooze or Niagara Gagzette. -
LAMP: I need help finding my father.
zonabb replied to The_Real's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Like Clem said in Joe Dirt, "The past is passed, the future is now."!!! Seriously, my spemr donor walked out on my mom and I when I was one. And I never looked back. But whatever makes you able to move forward. If you find out that your mother is bending the truth to protect you from this guy (which my mom never did, thankfully) then it's more than likely for good reason. And if that's the case, remember that Furious was "deep" in Boyz N Da Hood when he said "Any fool with a dikc can make a baby but a real man takes care of his kids." Good luck with whatever the case may be. -
The trouble with the guy is this... his diminutive stature has left him with a Napolean complex which manifests itself in an overblown vocabulary and know-it-all persona. But the problem is, he's in sports. He talks about sports for a living. He picked a field (talk radio and sports) that most people ignore. And those that call, let's be honest, aren't that slick for the most part. So he builds himself up as better than his "clients." Some poeple are wowed by it and some are annoyed. I for one get enough phony langauge duyring my work hours, the last thing I want is to listen to some blowhard stammer his way through multi-syllabic words from his thesaurus to describe football. Listen to him, he speaks in a short 4 or 5 word bursts, breaking up sentences. I have more college education in my pinky than this guy and I find him utterly pretentious and useless, which is why I stopped listening. Like Allen Iverson said about skipping pratice "Man, we're talking about practice. Practice." Man, this guy is talking about sports, sports. Not the economy, not world theology, not aeronautics. SPORTS! I guess I'm getting older but it bothers me on principal alone when a guy in a small market with one sports station (i.e., no competition) rails against professional football players for not being the best? Or for not being this or that or doing this or that wrong. What makes it worse is, where's this guys expertise based? What has he done athletically? So what does that make you? You're in Buffalo, NY. Not LA, NYC, Boston, Dallas, DC, Miami. If you hold others to a high standard, aren't we to do the same? Sports is becoming more and more a joke as the days pass.
-
Man, where do I start? I have a masters in urban planning, work in land development (i.e., design neighborhoods for the rich) and it would seem like I'd promote this area. But I don't. Do yourself a favor, stay away. Goverment is unskilled to do its job. Unions run this town and refuse to allow change (i.e., operate with market conditions). And taxes, yes taxes. I could go on for days. Buying raw land has its benefits but also its problems. As noted previously water quality can be an issue. Most rural wells need water treatment which can be hundreds of dollars a year. Doens't sound like much until you compare it with buying into an existing neighborhood and paying for water quarterly though the municipality. Same goes for the well. I can tell you right now, that buying a vacant lot in any development is expensive. By the time the developer pays for improvements (sewers, water, roads, sidewalks, etc), a lot can easily exceed $100k for less than a half acre. So if you're buying a new home on one of these lots and paying $250k, I don't have to tell you the quality of the home. Even if the lot was $60k, the home is still suspect. Do what you wish, but I'd go somewhere else. It's not worth it.

East Amherst isn't even a town. It doesn't have it own govt or own school district. It's merely neighborhood of self-impressed, standoff-ish wanna-be bigshots living in over-priced, poorly engineered sinking homes. Because they have a higher socioeconomic quality of life than most in the region, they have managed to get themselves market as some sort of mecca for local residents. It's hardly that. That list is a joke. Seems that what they've done is merely a poor demographic analysis of rich zip codes throughout the US. My guess is that Census data would show lilly white populations in most of these places consisting of high economic status and white collar professions. However, that doesn't make it a great place to live. They're places where the rich have escaped to a homogenous shangri-la. I could easily live and fit the profile...... white, masters degree, professional job. But I don't need it to prove to anyone or myself that I've attained something, whatever that something is. I cry not a single tear for those whose homes are sinking, serves them right for buing homes on swamp land.

No idea about this story but I want to be OBXBILLSFAN! I've been there every summer for the last 5 years and I'd move there in an instant, if jobs were decent and real estate was even somewhat affordable! Be down the week of June 26th!

I have a masters from UB and am looking there for a PhD but the one thing that I don't like is the North Campus, a giant, cold, uncomfortable concrete jungle with disgusting architecture, including the Ellicott Complex, where I'd be spending my time. But the price is right and the department, unlike the law school !, was ranked in top 10! From what I've been told, despite it's ranking (third tier I believe), that UB law is not exactly easy to get into without knowing someone. But if you get in, great price!
