Russ Brandon named President/CEO

Well, the real questions if true are: 1. What effect will this have on getting a decent coach willing to stick it out with an aged GM. Realistically, can Buddy last the length of the new coaches contract? 2. What does this mean for Whaley? But I will say the bad BIlls performance may have taken some shine off of him. -
Brandon Meets w/Ralph, No Nix Announcement Until 1/1/13

Why do they "owe" the media anything? I don't get the love affair with the hacks that cover this team. We have the worst collection of reporters in a major sports market. Read any other paper in a real news market and these hacks can't sharpen the pencils for copy editors in NYC, Boston, Philly, Chicago, LA... You get the picture. A real journalist wouldn't hang out without some assurances of a presser. If there wAs no presser, it's their fault for hanging it. This board loves the fact that some guys like Wawrow troll here because you think it makes this board credible but it actually makes these guys lack credibility. So I guess the team is obligated everyday to tell the media there are no press conferences? -
6 of the 7 Teams picking ahead of us need a QB

I agree, I think once the analysis starts, this guy comes out as the top rated QB. I'd welcome him!!!! -
NFL Black Monday for coaches and GMs
zonabb replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think timing is key but I also think any team that has fired their coach had their oars in the water in candidates already, particularly if they're looking at the college coaches. Those coaches probably have interviews lined up, if not already had phone discussions. Chip Kelly likely has interviews scheduled already. And a guy like Gruden probably has as well. The one name I'm surprised hasn't been rumored in anything I have seen yet is Cowher. Maybe he's made it known he's no longer looking to coach? -

Well, the Rooney Rule doesn't state, as far as I know, that you have to interview a minority candidate AFTER your current coach has been fired so time is of the essense. I think it was Mark Kelso on the pregame yesterday who confirmed rumors that there were coacheS in town recently but would't say who nor for what reason, he stated it could have been to pick their brains and discuss other candidates. DIdn't make a lot of sense but the confirmation of these rumors was interesting. -

ESPN Insider's rumors on Cleveland mention Whaley as a GM target. -
None of us are talent evaluators and we only judge what we "see" now so much what we know. With that, I spent about an hour watching all passing plays for an entire game for each of the top QBs against top nothc competition (ie Tyler Wilson v. LSU). I'll go on record as saying Glennon was the one who impressed me most. Again, its just what I see but his arm is miles above some of these other guys. His accuracy is very good, his footwork is very (no happy feet), stands tall and delivers on time. Again, I'm no scout but the guy looks the part, has the skills and didn't get a ton of press because he's on a lesser team. Is it a coincidence that the pre-season QBs and current top 5 lists are guys from big schools that win a lot and play in major powerhouse division with tons of publicity? Those schools... USC, WVU, Arkansas, Oklahoma, have great TEAMS and great teams win, often making QBs out to me super stars when sometimes they're not. My guess is Glennon is going to move way up and I wouldn't be surprised if he's the second one taken (some fool with fall in love with Smith) and could be the first.

Thurman Thomas on John Murphy at 8 pm Tonight
zonabb replied to TheZone78's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They have a new lease and its not about coaching or ownership and the Bills don't know. So why should fans care? Honestly, the only good news anyone wants is coaching changes, a new owner, or a new QB. Again.... Another reason social media sucks. What one person finds valuable and tweets, posts or otherwise tells everyone across the globe isn't necessarily important to said globe! -
Sad, real sad. I've only looked at twitter recently to keep up on the NHL lockout fron tsn.ca. But this only reinforces my disdain for social media and the trolls on it. We all may argue or disagree from time to time here but that guys got issues and should be severely beatn.

If Polian comes back, I would think he'd possibly be president with Whaley elevated to GM? If you bring Polian back to be GM, that pushes Whaley out and you lose a guy that was by all accounts being groomed to be the next GM. He's young and ambitious and would probably be willing to go somewhere else with some promise of a transition to GM. Or he'd leave altogether for a different opportunity. Nothing says a vote of no confidence like bringing someone else in to take a job you thought you were in line for.

Should have challenged that TD. Same play was over turned in a game a few weeks ago with the ref stating the catch was complete as the ball crossed the goal line. Basically that once the ball is caught before the goalline and crosses the play ends. Not sure which is right but the one a few weeks ago surprised me.

Report: Bills Lease Deal Imminent....
zonabb replied to IRIGHTI's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"I dislike the man too, but Dallas is one of the most profitable teams in the league and by a good margin. I don't think his stadium debt is a problem." Yeah's got a team that was marketed well as America's Team and he didn't regionalize, he nationalized and now internationalized! BUT.... even as profitable as that team is, he still had his hand out to the tune of $350 million in taxpayer funds. In fact, that was roughly have the orginal project estimate as Jones argreed to cover all overruns. He then used private venture capital to cover round $800M. The bottomline is, his debt on that place isn't killing him because his team is global and sells a ton of garbage merch. The reality is, the NFL is always going to have the Cowboys, Pats, Bears and other major market teams and then 20 other mid and small markets. If the NFL would recognize the value of these other markets as integral to the SPORT rather than complaining about how much more they could make in larger markets, they'd be fine. But profit matters more than the product and you'll always have owners clamoring that some team don't make enough. It's not even that they don;t many any, it's that they don't make enough. So instead of aholes like Kraft and Jones saying "Hey we do very well unde rthe NFL shield and without a viable league, we'd never exist so we're fine with the revenue sharing" they continually B word that they're subsidizing other teams... while they f'in use taxpayers to subsidize them. That is the definition of epitome and the arrogance of greed. -
Peter King: "No team in LA until at least 2014"
zonabb replied to l< j's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The NFL is not going to "yank" any teams anywhere. And small market teams such as the Bills and GB are making a ton of profit and have been for years. They're only profitable because they lack debt service. As soon as an owner has to plop down a note to buy the team, that profit goes away. And with no profit possible, no one in their right mind would keep the team here when simply changing the address means profit. Simply, this small market model only works when the team is debt free with a longstanding owner or is "community" owned and can sell pieces of paper fraudlently referred to as stock for a lot of money to raise needed capital. -
Cheer up guys; we're just one game closer now.
zonabb replied to bobobonators's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd love Chan geeting fired of all those. Not sold on either QB but I'd take Te'o in a second. No quitting with that guy. This team needs leaders at coach and on the field. -
Your lack of actual real football knowledge is proven once again. Arguing he played poor I the first half implies he's played better since, proving my point that you're clueless. He wasn't paid 100m to get sacks, go back and read the stories after he signed about his run defense and his abilities to make teams adjust. Sadly you dont understand anything except quantitative stats like salaries and sacks. Bottomline, this tem has 3 horrible LBs who never make plays they should when the DL does its job in the run game. If you can't figure it out, nothing I can do so keep blaming, erroneously, 1/11th of the defense.
