It's the same old Bills. You can suggest otherwise with a simple "it's not" but that's not a compelling case. Do they have more talent than prior years, sure. Outside of that fact, it is the same old Bills. A .500 record in a down AFC is more the reason they're in the hunt than them being better. Can't beat the Patriots. Same old Bills. When it comes time for that "get over the hump game" and prove they're not the same old Bills, they can't as evidenced by the loss to the Giants and the annual stinker to the Jags. The Giants game was that game this year. Home against a quality opponent. Laid an egg. Same old Bills. They lose to teams with better records like New England and Cincinnati and generally aren't even competitive in those games. They lead early in the first two and laid an egg. They never lead Monday. They're so-so against teams with similar records, and beat teams with they should beat. They're losses are against teams with a combined 37-13 record that obviously is skewed by the Patriots but in there are losses to a 5-5 and and 4-6 team. They haven't beaten a team with a record above .500 and their wins are against teams with a combined 20-30 record. Same. Old. Bills. So when they lay another egg in KC Sunday, then maybe you'll see it. Book it, it's a loss. The script says so.... "get over the hump game" against a mediocre QB and a backup running back. That's Willie Parker and Tommy Maddox on line 1.

So overdraft another EJ Manuel or JP Losman in the first regardless of how good he is just because they need one? The number of times I've read "they have to draft a QB in the first today" is astounding. Holy hell.

The insane level of game awareness the Pats have
zonabb replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Part of it is clearly coaching. But the other part seems to be intelligence. I've railed against stupidity endlessly and this team always seems to have a crop of players who lack both intellectual intelligence and emotional intelligence. Lacking those things limits the potential of players with athletic ability. Look at McKelvin, who I can't stand. Athletically, he's got it. Intellectually, not so much. Guy gets burned a ton not looking back to the QB yet he still hasn't learned. Personal fouls, blocks in the back, these are intelligence plays. Personal fouls, like the out of bounds hits on a QB, are emotional intelligence, letting the game get the better of you. The Pats seem to have a stable of high intelligence guys. Guys who buy in and can master the game and the game plan. I've watched this team a lot because the Bills play them twice and because they're always on. They continue to amaze with smart plays and smart football. There is the dinosaur mentality still pervasive in the NFL, that pure athletic skill and brawn matter more than brains. When guys like Barkevious Mingo, Erik Flowers and Aaron Maybin keep getting drafted in the first round based purely on combine numbers and physique it says something about what teams overstate. I like the cerebral nature of the game and no one does it better than the Patriots. -
PLEASE!!!! He's the one player I've railed against and despise his entire time here. He has limited situational awareness, is prone to major mistakes, and has shown zero ability to improve on the mental aspects of the game. I've hoped the last three years to have him cut but he continues to come back and give us what we expect. First game back this year and he gets torched deep because he just can't turn back to the QB. He flat out sucks.

I hate to admit it, but Taylor sucks
zonabb replied to Doug Flutie Band's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's that easy huh. Just a first round QB and the issue is solved? EJ Manuel and JP Losman would like a word with you. That mentality is the NFL GM mentality... demand is high, supply is low and over-drafting is common. The first round is littered with garbage picks. I think the QB issue is the most confounding in sports and the NFL has a problem on its hands given the way QBs are groomed in high school and college. This is still a league where pocket passers win the majority of super bowls but drafts QBs from college programs running dissimilar offenses. -

I'd bet my money on another TD right out of the half as Belichek and his staff rule the adjustment game. This ones over. Book it. Time for bed. -

I would. Guy gets too much cred for passes defended but he gets beat weekly in multiple occasions. -

Gruden sucking off McCourty instead of McCoy and his ability to get open that deep from the RB position. And that's about right. Offense sucks on a night the D does well. This is how you lose. -

Yeah if I had to pick a coach to bank on for second half adjustments, it's not Rex, it's belichek. -

Does anyone else automatically skip BN Sully articles?
zonabb replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I come here for all my Bills needs. Sully is a dinosaur. The younger guys are following, unfortunately, in his footsteps rather than Kelley or Felser. In today's media, again unfortunately, it's about opinions and who can be the most outrageous rather than being a good, keen observer and reporter. And I'm older not, I don't need to read what they report or say if I watched the game. I read politics and government articles because I don't attend meetings but if I did, I wouldn't read them either. Just have zero need for someone's opinion on the Bills. -
No statistical measurement or index has any credibility when its variables are known only by the person who created it. Also, if someone wants to start looking into its validity, calculate the correlation between QBR for a QB and wins. ESPN stated it's a measure of the totality of a QBs performance so by extension high QBRs should equate to wins since the implication is the QB matters more than any given player as evidenced by he being the only player for which such a measure exists.

I'm at the point in my life where it doesn't revolve around the Bills anymore and it feels good. Yes I still sit there and watch games and attend games but if a better option comes along, I don't pass on it to watch football anymore. It's actually been great, I've enjoyed better times missing, for example last year's home loss to New England, doing something more fulfilling and enjoyable. So this question is timely because I have friends who still plan their lives around them, some willing to skip out on some winter fun in January because they plan to watch a playoff game. That "if come" doesn't work for me. I plan my life around life now, not around football anymore. It's actually been amazingly helpful in grounding life to what matters. So I thought about this the other day and I might pass on the MN game for sanity's sake. Why go through 3 hours of frustration? I have zero faith they have even a 1% chance to win so what then is the point then? Is it hope? I've sat through 15 years of hope (or is it more, I've lost count and prefer not to know how bad it actually is) and I don't need hope anymore because it matters less to me every day. I still love home games, I love the social part, love hanging with my group of friends, love the atmosphere. I could live without watching them on TV so when it comes time to determine whether to buy in, it's not on hope anymore. I've become apathetic toward the team because of the losing and the same story every year. And I truly despise the NFL, from the idiots owners like Jones to the idiot players he sticks up for like Hardy. Coupled together, I've gone from a diehard, every Sunday all day guy to a season ticket holder who attends most games and watches many away games and has seen maybe 4 quarters of NFL the rest of the year. All that being said.... I'll probably tune in!!! Just because it's Monday night and I, in the immortal works of Chris Tucker in Friday, "ain't got sh!t to do." But if it were a Sunday like this past Sunday, I would have passed!!
