Anyone want to face the harsh reality?
ThurmasThoman replied to Shamus05's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
whoa whoa whoa. wtf? i cant believe im reading this. there are people out there that like the bills, that have no connection with buffalo new york? ummm... why? if you follow this team, and you have no connection to buffalo, youre not breaking anyones heart if you stop following this team-especially if youre cool with them moving. there is no bills without buffalo. there is no football without the bills. there is no anything without buffalo bills football. cant believe there are people here saying they dont care about BUFFALO and want this team to move. youre not a bills fan. in the truest sense of the word - youre not a bills fan. you might ROOT for the bills, but you are NOT a bills fan. i repeat. you are NOT a bills fan. -

i can play this game too. im a cancer survivor, was diagnosed when i was a kid. made it through. has nothing to do with the nfl. millions of people have cancer, millions of people die of different things every day. they "awareness" color for the cancer i had is lime green. im deeply offended that you dont think every nfl team should accent its uniforms for 25% of the season in lime green. im sorry you lost your sister, im sorry i had cancer, im sorry cancer exists - doesnt mean a quarter of every single nfl season from now until the end of time needs to look like a godd*mn easter egg hunt at a local preschool. -

this is what im talking about: right here. this line of thinking. my logic is flawed, that we need a good quarterback to win. that we are somehow, magically going to win a professional football game, when ryan fitzpatrick looks like my wife, (if she were impersonating a limp-wristed fem boy) throwing the ball any distance over 25 yards. did you see him use HIS ENTIRE BODY to try to throw that td pass that was picked off?? it was a windup of a centerfielder trying to throw someone out at home - and it was a 30 yard pass!!!! he. is. not. a. good. qb. so, yes, it fully allows the defense to lay over and die. i honestly think if more of you guys lived out of market, you would have a different perspective on this team. the qb handles the ball every snap on offense. he should (rightly) get all the credit and blame. fitzy has great stats, because he can throw 5 yard passes to spiller that go for 75 yards. lets say the bills got the ball to start the third, and brady was our q. a 60 yard drive that takes 7 minutes of the clock is just as effectively defensively as our defense forcing a 3 and out. thats what we as fans need to wrap our heads around. fitzy is so bad, he is making the rest of the team look bad. when our offense is clicking (second half jets, kc, cleveland, first half pats,) how amazing does our defense look? now just imagine if our offense could be that consistent, week in and week out! wed be locks for the super bowl. oh. sorry. i forgot. wanting a good quarterback is for dreamers. i need to blame this entire season on mario williams, because he wasnt able to pressure goodell into making a rule change to make sacks worth 9 points. right. gotcha. -

wow, so another team with a bad qb is 1-4?? look what we can aspire to if our defense only allowed 9 points instead of 45?? great point, you totally refuted me in saying we need a qb because if our d DOESNT lay down, we can lose by less! get with the times: pats and giants had defenses ranked in the bottom 5 of the league last year. i repeat: the pats and giants had defenses ranked in the bottom 5 of the league last year. you win with quarterbacks. -

they are inter-related. defense holds niners to 10 points first 29 minutes and 15 seconds of ball game. fitz throws pick, niners take over ball on our 25 yard line, go into half up 17-3 instead of 10-3. we get the ball to start the half - three and out. niners get the ball back, short field, up 17-3, and clinch the game with a td. defense sitting on the sideline, like any competent human being, realizes "hey, were down 24-3, and ryan fitzpatrick is our quarterback. in 30 years of quarterbacking, he has never ONCE shown the ability to win a game against a defense of this caliber. this game is over." ever stat, every play after the point in the game when we fell behind 17-3 is meaningless. and you can say "well, fitz didnt fumble the ball, chandler did." and you're right - but the fact remains - ryan fitzpatrick sucks. i want to see someone, who has more time than me, give me fitzs stats on every pass that travels in the air further than 5 yards -- essentially, taking away his screens. because f*cking stephen hawking could throw a screen to cj spiller. give me that statistical breakdown. -

everyone that is so smug, saying things like "oh is it fitz's fault were allowing 8.1 ypc?" well, yes, it is. we go 3 and out or throw a pick every time were on the f*cking field, offensively. fitz cant hit anyone, ANYONE, if they have a defender within 5 yards of them. we would have lost that game if we only allowed a touch down. what is the defense supposed to do? force a turnover every possesion? limit the opposing team to 0 points? how come every succesful team in the nfl wins with a good qb, but the bills have to place the blame on everyone else. go watch a giants game, watch manning throw the ball, then come back here and try to blame our shortcomings on our defense. -

yeah man, i like his whole demeanor. the beard, the wedding band, the fact that he brings up sim city 2000 in interviews. everything. but its time for this era to be over. now. after the second half of last week, really. he cant make the throws necessary to win in the nfl. -

i refuse to give up on this season. our quarterback play has been so bad. so so so so so bad, that it has to be affecting the team as a whole. if we had ANYONE else starting, we could have 17 on the board right now. why should the defense show up every week? allow 7 points and the game is over against any good team. -

fitz doesnt need to be benched, he needs to be cut. immediately. he is not an starting caliber quarterback in the national football league. im just watching to see if the ryan fitzpatrick era ends in this fourth quarther, or tonight after the game. he does not have the arm strength to throw the ball 30 yards. he simply doesnt. he is my favorite player on the team in the last 15 years, but its time for him to go. he sucks. i cant defend him anymore. thigpen would be light years better. -

i agree with the original poster 100% hell, 1000% if it was for 1 week, absolutely. or the super bowl even. but 4 games? thats a quarter of the season. the bills wear pink half as much as their away jerseys. doesnt that seem a tad excessive. essentially, pink becomes as much of an alternate color in our jersey scheme as white. nay, essentially, pink becomes as relevant a color in jersey makeups than the home color of the jersey, for every team in the league. this really doesnt seem excessive for anyone else besides me and the OP? i find that hard to believe... -
When I was a kid, I always would see those sports illustrated commercials after a team won a championship... "congratulations redskins fans, your team is the best in the NFL, subscribe now and we'll send you this vhs and a redskins year book commemorating their season." And I always swore up and down, when the Bills won the Super Bowl, I'd get that subscription. Well, clearly, I still have never had an S.I. subscription, but I digress. Turns out, I wasn't the only one who thought that way. After the Pats won in 01-02, my friend got that subscription, got that dvd, and got that year book. As much as it pains me to say, I have read that yearbook, and let me tell you something: It's not all op-ed pieces about how amazing the Patriots were that season. It's filled with doom and gloom when Bledsoe goes down. It's filled with pieces about how it's going to be an impossible task to beat the Rams. And on and on. The point is--and this is the most important point you can make to a board full of Bills fans--its a LONG season. And you're not out of it until you're eliminated, mathematically, 100%. I think, over the last 15 years, some of us have forgotten that, but more importantly, young bills fans, who may only have been 10 when the bills last made the playoffs (and may only have ever closely followed the bills) don't even know this lesson. One loss, really, truly is only one loss. As a matter of fact, the current reigning champions of the National Football League lost 7 times last year, went 3-3 in their division, and had the 27th ranked defense in the league. My biggest mistake as a Bills fan was giving up on them. In 2004, we started 0-4. Started 0-2 in the division (losses to the Jets and the Patriots.) Then we clawed back to 3-5, before losing to new england AGAIN to go to 3-6. I'm ashamed to say, I bailed. "I had had enough." No more was that team going to torture me. I was in college, I just wanted to enjoy my weekends with my friends. Not be miserable with the Bills. So what happened? Well, everyone knows they won 6 in a row to set up the week 17 match against Pit for a wild card spot. But as I watched that game, part of me wanted them to lose. The season to that point had felt magical, and I KNEW i had given up, and as a fan, I didnt deserve to be there if they won the super bowl that year. I would have been a bandwagon bills fan. That season was the last time I havent watched a game, and it's the last time I'll ever "give up" on the Bills. Now look man, I know how this board works. I know were going to be ripping on our boys when they get smoked in san fran on sunday. But for those guys on here that are maybe 21, 22, 23, and feel like it's hopeless, and it's never going to be fun to watch the bills.. dont give up on it just yet. its a LONG season, and the afc is not very good at all. the odds of us getting a wild card are pretty good, and in the NFL playoffs, anything can happen. Especially if you have playmakers on defense, and an offensive line-just ask the giants. keep the faith guys.

Bills offense is 5th in total points scored
ThurmasThoman replied to GoBills!'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
last year the giants won a divisional game at home to sneak into the playoffs at 9-7. they had the 8th ranked offense and the TWENTY SEVENTH ranked defense. the bills don't suck--bills fans suck. just be happy we have a team, and enjoy the ride. every nfl game has essentially turned into a 50/50 bet these days, and the buffalo bills are the living embodiment of that parity. we're 2-2, but more than being 2-2, we lost one half to the jets, and we lost one half to the patriots. pats host the broncos, the jets play the texans, and we play the niners. we'll ALL probably be 2-3 next week. or maybe not. who knows? this defense absolutely has the potential to step up big in a big game if needed. maybe it will come down to that last jets game. maybe it will be in the super bowl this year, against the vikings. if you think it won't-stop watching. -
i think the thing that hurts about this game... i watched it with a room full of new england fans. and when we had first and goal at the 1, going into the half... if we could have pounded that ball in... my god. it could have been the biggest moment in the last 15 years of bills football. this is a game man... this is a game that we SHOULD have had... that we COULD have had. and its so much more than just ONE game. if we had pulled it out... but instead were injured, 2-2, and heading out west tied with everyone else in the division.

Any more clarity needed on where the issues are?
ThurmasThoman replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
are you kidding me? we split our next 2, were 3-3. we go 1-2 in our next 3 after that, were 4-5. we finish 5-2 and make the playoffs. -
totally different type of game. divisional games... as bad as we have been under gailey in them... are ALWAYS a 50/50 bet. we were a yard away from going into the half up 28-7. and then we lost the second half. you play those guys 2 times a year, every year. theyre hard games for mediocre clubs to win. i know its hard to fathom, but san francisco simply just does not know us like the pats and the jets know us. we play them once every 4 years. this is the first time harbaugh has ever had to gameplan for us. im sure this offseason harbaugh familiarized himself with our offense... but i wouldnt be surprised if we went out there and won. i really wouldnt. they might look at this game as just an easy victory. if we come out and score 21 real quick... hey, stranger things have happened.

Friday's Post-practice RB update
ThurmasThoman replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
they absolutely will have different defensive packages if spiller and jackson are healthy. why wouldnt they??? would we prepare to face the pats differently if gronk and hernandez had both blown acls and neither were going to suit up? with spiller/jackson were a screen throwing, 5 yard a carry, running team. without them, were going to look to pass more, and pound the rock inside. those are two wildly divergent offensive game plans. its not madden man! you cant just hit x, square, circle and force us to punt. their (YOUNG) defenders need to know where to be on every play. the middle of their defense is green! those backers get out of place? spiller breaks a 40 yard run. my god, were going to smoke these guys this weekend. they cant even put up enough points to beat the cards. lol. pats are old. -
Boston's 98.5 slams Buffalo and Bills
ThurmasThoman replied to buffalobillsfootball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
oh my god. new england fans. i live here. its an oxymoron. these guys NEVER watched the patriots before brady, they have no concept of football. they just assume that because brady and beli WERE good, theyll ALWAYS be good. youll get no satisfaction trashing on them man, believe me. as soon as the pats go in the tank, theyll move on to a different sport. there is no loyalty to their teams, their players, or the sports - its just a typical, !@#$ massachusets mindset. dont even bother getting worked up about this man. we'll win, they wont make the playoffs this year, and by this time next fall, theyll be talking about the celtics instead of the pats. -
Total NFL Realignment
ThurmasThoman replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
lol are you kidding me? if youre a sports fan over the age of 18, have ever been bored and had a pen and a piece of paper handy--youve realigned most professional sports leagues many times over. me and my buddy used to work an exceedingly boring 9-5, and would have races to see who could list all the pro teams the quickest. it seems easy, but trying to remember that last baseball team if youre not a fan of the sport can be nerve wracking, especially if there's a dollar on the line. lol. i wish i could be young again. -
Total NFL Realignment
ThurmasThoman replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i used to be really, REALLY into this line of thinking. i would open up a map of america in microsoft paint, and put a star where every nfl team was, then draw different colored circles around teams that should be in the same division, based on a US atlas of how far each city was from each other, in actual miles. but now, im going in the exact opposite direction--the nfl needs to have NO divisions-in my opinion. basically, expand the league by 2 more teams, both in LA. in the American Football Conference are 17 teams, in the National Football Conference, there are 17 teams. You play every team in your conference once a year--rotating homefield advantage on a yearly basis. top 6 make the playoffs (i have always loved that the NFL is the only sport where teams get a bye.) This way, everyone has the same schedule, and the Super Bowl becomes a unique event where the two teams that are playing NEVER face each other. -
Spygate:What you DIDN'T know
ThurmasThoman replied to cmjoyce113's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i used to say that. life is about experiences though, and what they mean to you 5, 10, 15, 25 years later. when the bills win the super bowl, its going to be one of the most amazing experiences of my life. its something that ill always be able to look back on and say "wow.. it actually happened... we won the super bowl!" i dont want that tarnished. its like... youre standing on the tee box on a par 3, 150 yards out. your first shot goes in the water. your second shot shanks into the woods. your third shot you hole it. did you get a hole in 1? well, i suppose you got your ball into the hole in one shot, and lots of golfers cheat, so hey, you can tell everyone you got a hole in one, right? .................. right? it just feels wrong. -
exactly. sprains are different from tears in that the ligament (in its initial injury) is stretched in an angle counter to that which it usually operates. the blood flowing to the trauma site can reduce flexibility--but the decrease in motion is generally more of a hindrance than a danger. sounds to me like freddy's lcl sprain is a lot like tennis or golfers elbow that all of us get as we get older--if you play tennis or golf. (age may be a reason why freddy got this injury, actually.) either way, theres nothing any doctor can do to fix it, and rest, pain killers and staying away from golf is the only cure. for freddy, hes had 3 weeks to rest now, with the best medicine and trainers available in the history of mankind--not hyperbole, just the state of western medicine. even if the bills doctors are the worst in the league, theyre still among the best in the world. doesnt surprise me to see him playing this week. the brace is no doubt to limit his range of motion, because there is probably intense shooting pain if extends the knee past a certain angle to the inside, but again, there would be no further chance of an injury from playing on it, just aggrivation. hey - hes a 31 year old running back. not to sound like a meathead nfl fan.. but... i would kind of expect him to play on sore knees?
-
we never won a thing when he was here, and in games where we HAD to have him (when we were 5-2 that year and playing the jets, or later that year on MNF against the browns at home, or the next year in the opener against the pats) the defense could never make stops. say what you want about him being a great guy, or its not HIS fault that our d couldnt make those stops, but if they guy wants 50 million dollars, and to eat up THAT much of an organizations cap space, he better damn well take the blame for our failures. our defense was 24, 19, 14, and 31 while he was here. you want revis money? you shut down sections of the field like revis.
