Are we seriously going to let Levitre walk?
ThurmasThoman replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
they'll resign him, idk why people are as concerned as they are. nix's philosophy is to build from the lines out. i would say its more likely that if were going to lose levitre or byrd, byrd goes. -
beat brady in this years playoffs. beat brady in the season this year. should have beat brady in last years playoffs. beat brady 3 years ago in the playoffs. beat manning this year in the playoffs. youre right, he's not on their level. he's significantly better.

Jamarcus Russell Making a Comeback
ThurmasThoman replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
it drives me crazy to see someone so gifted with the tools to be wildly successful not even possessing the strength of character and dedication to be moderately successful. you know? im not saying he has to be tom brady/peyton manning/aaron rodgers. but the guy couldnt even care JUST enough to achieve a jay cutler level of success for 10-12 years and make an extra 100 million?? that wasnt enough incentive? this world is filled with people who work just hard enough at their job to earn a paycheck. it frustrates me to no end to see professional athletes who can't do that. who squander what they've been given. -
One More Reason to Hate Tom Brady
ThurmasThoman replied to AC4 IN ATL's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would never begrudge a man for what he spends his money on. congrats to him on the place. PERSONALLY, i would be unhappy calling a building like that "home." FOR ME, it would be too much unused space, too many areas/rooms that had no function in my life. everyone is different though, and the great thing about America is that through hard work and success, you are still able to achieve a life like that. -

Is the Patriots Dynasty Tarnished?
ThurmasThoman replied to ChevyVanMiller's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i sum this up like this: from 2002 through 2005, the patriots won 3 superbowls by the skin of their teeth. i live in new england, so i have seen basically every game they have played over the last 20 years. the way they won those games... you just cant begin to understand if you live out of market. it would be like if the bills/oilers comeback game happened every weekend--for 4 years. i'm not referring to "comebacks" per se, but just more along the lines of while youre watching the game, youre thinking to yourself "how is this happening, this defies logic." it wasn't enjoyable, it wasn't impressive, it wasnt "frustrating" like watching the bulls with michael jordan. it was just... weird. and then the story broke that they had been cheating. and they were punished severely by the league. (as an aside--how this doesnt tarnish their legacy is beyond me.) now some people will say--other teams were doing it, so just because the patriots got caught, doesnt mean theyre the only ones. applying the bonds/clemons logic to spygate. the difference being: baseball itself never punished bonds. after his career, sportswriters have kept him out of the hall of fame. if major league baseball fined bonds, or suspended him for using steroids, AND ONLY PUNISHED BARRY BONDS, would people say that steroids "didnt give him a competitive advantage?" i think not. so, with all that being said--its very hard for me to look at the cumulative work of tom bradys career, and this patriots era of winning, and say he's "the best ever." they cheated (this is fact,) and won 3 superbowls. since they were punished for cheating, they have been a middling team that enjoys regular season success, and folds on the biggest of stages: something that new englanders love to rip on peyton manning for. the difference between peyton and brady? peyton has won a super bowl and not been punished for cheating. eli has won TWO super bowls and not been punished for cheating--both of them over the golden boy brady. BEN ROTHLISBERGER HAS WON 2 SUPERBOWLS, PLAYED IN ANOTHER, AND PLAYS IN A DIVISION WITH THE RAVENS! now if brady tacks on one more, just ONE more, i may begrudgingly have to admit that he is one of the greatest qbs to ever play the game. but until then he is this: an extremely bright, well spoken kid who gained a competitve advantage in professional football by cheating. while cheating, he gained enormous success and popularity. since being punished for cheating, he has put up guady numbers in a pass first system that he controls during the regular season (ala peyton manning,) but has been unable to win on the biggest of stages, unlike peyton manning (1), eli manning (2) or ben rothlisberger (2.) also of note is the fact that joe flacco has come into his stadium and soundly outplayed him in the playoffs 3 times IN FOXBORO, and is 1 lee evans drop away from being 0-3 against flacco in the playoffs post spygate, 0-1 against peyton in the playoffs post spygate, and 0-2 against eli in the playoffs post spygate. -

wow thats crazy. according to this board: the patriots never cheated only bills fans who are "jealous" of the patriots think they cheated spygate was something that only 3 bills fans created in their basement, and no one else in the rest of the league has heard of it or cares about it the patriots have won every game theyve played since 2002 the patriots are on a remarkable run of 12 straight super bowl titles tom brady is the best player in the history of the nfl, who has never thrown an incompletion, much less an interception, period bill beliceck cant be outcoached *please take note i have been saying this "dynasty" has been dead since the second i saw rice rip off an 84 yard td run in the opening minutes of that playoff game 3 years ago in gillete. glad to see bills fans finally waking up. -

since the patriots last superbowl win, the steelers have 2 superbowls and the giants have 2 superbowls the patriots owned the first part of the 2000s, for sure. ANNNNND that was a decade ago. the rest of the football world has moved on--are bills fans ready to yet? -
Is the Patriots Dynasty Tarnished?
ThurmasThoman replied to ChevyVanMiller's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
yeah, what an off the wall conspiracy theory. so crazy, that the league itself handed down the harshest penalty in history for doing exactly that. -
this can't be happening. are things like this allowed to be posted here. cool story hansel. absolutely, that man was a genius. until the league punished him for cheating. i mean, look at the run this defensive "genius" is on right now. wow! 2012 - 25th ranked defense 2011 - 31st ranked defense 2010 - 25th ranked defense why am i on a buffalo bills message board defending my view point that our hated division rivals were cheaters, and the evidence that the league punished them for cheating is not good enough evidence to prove that they cheated?

exactly!!! now go make this thread about the quarterbacks that have won championships since the patriots were penalized by the league for cheating and had draft picks taken away. someone highlight the parts of this next paragraph that are untrue. the new england patriots were a terrible football team for the majority of their existence. aside from a super bowl appearance against the bears in the 80s, and the packers in the 90s, they were of little note in the nfl landscape. their stadium was frequently not at capacity, and in fact, they almost relocated. at the early part of this millenium, they rode an unheralded quarterback to a string of 3 super bowl victories in 4 years. teams they played at the time have since commented on the uncanny ability of the patriots to stymie their offenses, and seemingly know what was coming their way on defense. in fact, the st. louis rams of 2001/2002 were one of the most prolific offenses of all time, defending super bowl champions, and looked to be a sure thing to repeat as league champions. they were, however, held to only 17 points, after averaging over 32 points a game for the season, and 37 in the playoffs. several years later, the patriots would be punished for cheating. they were docked draft picks, and fined. no team in league history had been punished for cheating to that extent. since then, the patriots have not won a superbowl, although they have enjoyed success within their conference. however, several other teams within the afc have gone on to much greater success since the patriots string of super bowls, including the steelers (2 titles,) and the colts (1 title with manning,) not to mention the success of the new york giants of the NFC, who have beaten the patriots in the super bowl on 2 occassions. young bills fans who have grown up knowing nothing but failure, however, continue to worship at the altar of tom brady, because of the patriots inordinate amount of success over our pathetic franchise during this time. they will continuosly chide bills fans who do not revere and stand in awe of the patriots legacy for holding things like spygate against the patriots, when the rest of the world has "moved on" in their opinion, while failing to realize that long, long, long ago, the league "moved on" from fearing the patriots, and once the bills establish even a mediocre football team, we will once again challenge for a division title.

i will give credit where credit is due, when there are as many threads on here extolling the virtues of tom coughlin, eli manning and "the giant way" (2 super bowl wins, both over the patriots, compared to the patriots 0 super bowl wins since spy gate) and ben rothlisberger and "the steeler way," (2 super bowl wins since the patriots last super bowl win) bills fans are scared of the "patriots dynasty" that hasnt existed for a decade, while multiple franchises have won multiple super bowls since the patriots last won one. do i need to apologize for not wanting a shrine to tom brady on the front page of twobillsdrive.com? hey, lets talk about what a great studio personality that dan marino guy is, shucks, he sure is great. i wish brian cox was on there with him! i bet he would have some great talking points!!

when the patriots were cheating, and brady knew what defenses he was going up against, he won 3 super bowls (barely). since then--and if you look at brady's career in a vacuum that exists entirely post spygate--he is a very good quarterback who is routinely beaten by eli manning in the biggest of games, and puts up guady numbers because of the offensive system the patriots run. the patriots have proved over the last decade (since winning their last super bowl,) that they are paper tigers. unfortunately, their super bowl wins will never be vacated, because the league does not want to tarnish the brand that is THE SUPER BOWL. however, as fans, we have the power to know the truth. eli and big ben have both won multiple to superbowls since brady has won one without the team cheating. mods should delete this thread for that reason alone, as i feel that clearly makes them better quarterbacks than brady--hell, manning beat brady to win both of his super bowls.

Did anyone keep the warm fuzzy stories from 3yrs ago?
ThurmasThoman replied to Iraq Vet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Coming from someone (me) who isn't that jazzed up about the hire primarily because a. it's not a familiar name, and b. i don't know enough about the guy to really feel one way or another, so essentially i'm ignorant to the entire process, and thus have kept my mouth shut about it and have adopted a wait-and-see attitude... I will just say this. Chan Gailey created an organizational culture of failure and a "we're not good enough" mindset. Here's something interesting for you to consider: When Chan Gailey took over as coach, he spent the entire offseason and preseason evaluating our quarterbacks, and settled on Trent Edwards, who lasted all of 2 games before he was cut, at which point Fitz took over and we finished the year 4-12. Going into the season, both Gailey and Nix said it was a rebuilding year, said we had bottomed out, basically told a group of professional athletes "you guys suck, youre no good, were not going anywhere, who cares." So, naturally, with that organizational philosophy, we finished 4-12. But let's look at that 4-12 record: Five... FIVE of those losses were by less than a touchdown--four of the losses were by a field goal in overtime!! That's 5 games that went against us that we could have won, which would have given us a 9-7 record and a wildcard. The talent on that team was there. It absolutely was--but instead of coaching up that talent, and setting expectations at winning the division, or hell, winning the super bowl, we went into the season already with a loser mentality. That attitude, that mentality, is sickening. It's the mindset of a loser. And Gailey created that culture. As I mentioned above, 5 of our losses were by a TD or less in 2010. In 2011, another 5 of our losses were by a TD or less. and this year, 2012, four of our losses were by a TD or less. What that tells me, is the talent on this club is there for us to have gone 9-7, 11-5, 10-6. But according to Gailey, 2 of those years were rebuilding years. Now, how does Marrone fit into the equation? Well, from what I've read, he seems like he's not afraid to make adjustments on the fly. Which, most importantly, means that players are going to be held accountable. Fitz sucks? Go with the backup. He sucks? go with his backup. Gailey made rebilding a priority, and winning a side bennefit we would experience if we were lucky. So we didn't win. Marrone seems like he's going to make winning a priority, with no excuses. I hope it works out. -
thank you. steelers and giants have both won multiple super bowls since the patriots last won one. hell, patriots havent won a superbowl in almost a decade. the patriots winning the afc east has had far, far, far more to do with the general incompetence and misfortune of the other 3 teams in the division, than any sustained success of the "patriots way." for evidence, please note the success of every other elite team in the league when playing the patriots in the playoffs for the last 7 or 8 seasons. houston will likely eliminate them this weekend.

Interesting tidbits from LaCanfora re: search
ThurmasThoman replied to l< j's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
yes, but let's say nbc sports network decided that they wanted their own "lacanfora," so they established a persona, who sat in front of the camera on their sunday night show, and reported what his "sources" (private investigators) were telling him, after hitting 5-10 stories dead on, people would take notice. more people would watch the show. more people watching the show, means commercials cost more. more expensive commercials = more profit for the network. more profit for the network = bigger budget for private investigators to pound the pavement and break stories. rinse and repeat. it's not far fetched at all. -
