Meh. I thought Sheppard is/was probably better than what he showed last year in Wanny's bland stuff. Been saying the same about nearly all our defensive players. I was prepared for him to be one of our ILBs this year and didn't think it was going to be the end of the world because I thought Pettine could get more out of him. Still, pretty happy with the trade. Pettine can probably get more out of this Hughes guy as well.

Rd 2, Pick #41: WR Robert Woods - USC
SoFFacet replied to CaliBillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was going to say, I love Stevie to death, but I think Woods could be the #1 receiver here within 2-3 years. -
I think Wilson will continue to have a successful career, but this is one thing that has been bothering me. Far too many people are taking continued success for Luck, Griffin, Wilson, Kaep, etc for granted. Injuries, slumps, regression to the mean, defensive adaptations, any number of things could occur to result in decreased effectiveness for one or many of those players.

Reasons This Has Been an AMAZING Draft
SoFFacet replied to Boludo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah I agree that there will be reverses in the playbook and they will be used in the manner you described. I just don't think it will be a central component. -
Reasons This Has Been an AMAZING Draft
SoFFacet replied to Boludo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I doubt there will be that many reverses, Marrone doesn't strike me as a gimmick lover. I think they will simply try to use creative personnel packages, formations, and route combinations to draw isolation mismatches. -
Biggest Remaining Weakness (Post Draft)
SoFFacet replied to WhitewalkerInPhilly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
After most drafts I feel that they are still so far underwater that it made little difference. But for the first time in a long time I think that they could be just one draft away from plugging all major holes. If the picks from this year pan out and we draft TE, OL, CB in some order next year, we could be sitting very pretty. -
Not surprised, but quite pleased. Drafting any SU players, especially ahead of media-expected round, would have smelt of nepotism. There is nothing a coach can do that will kill his credibility faster in his player's eyes than to be perceived as non-impartial.
-
What if several years from now none of the OLs from this class are pro-bowlers yet but several WRs from the class are? You can't judge a draft until years afterwards.
-
My take is that Marrone is confident he can coach up the guys we already have. Pretty bold imho, I like it. His attitude certainly allowed us to stock up on more WRs and DBs than we normally could have gotten. Pure conjecture. I liked our 2nd round picks anyways, not getting one of Woods or Alonso would have been disappointing. Only player that went between 17-40 that I was bummed out over missing was Eifert. First of all the "Strength of the Draft" is just pundit opinion until several years afterwards. But in any case there is nothing intrinsically wrong with going against the grain. No matter what the overall trends of a draft are, each individual pick is a unique situation where any position could end up BPA on your board at that time.
-
Warmack would actually make a contribution on each play, Austin will only matter on his catches and maybe manages to turn his speed into an extra TD once a season. Probably spends half his time injured anyways.
-
Do you actually think he has more in common with Green and Jones, or Ginn and Parrish?
-
Thats the whole point of the exercise though, you list players in order of preference without considering the likelyhood of them being actually being there. Since you have eight, you are guaranteed to at least get the last player on your list. Mine: Joeckel Fisher Geno Jones Milliner Jordan Werner Patterson

Bills to let David Nelson walk?
SoFFacet replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The only NFL level receiver on the roster is Stevie, the rest of the WR corps is a joke, and that includes Nelson. I can't believe some people here are describing him as a "good young player." Cutting so many WRs is a good sign that they will bring in not just one but at least two new ones. -
I think the new regime regards the 2012 Bills as having primarily a talent problem on offense and primarily a coaching problem on defense, so I can buy WR 1st, particularly if Patterson or Allen's stock rises between now and draft day. Other than one decent possession guy (Stevie) we have no NFL caliber WRs on this roster. QB in the 2nd, BPA after that.

What should the Bills do at #8?
SoFFacet replied to Solomon Grundy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, you have two Guards. Its not as if Warmack wouldn't play even if we did resign Levitre. Not really in favor of the pick but just saying. I'm on board with WR first. I think our offense has much more of a talent deficiency than our defense, which suffers from more of a coaching problem. Besides Stevie our WRs are barely more than camp bodies. -
Positional Needs for DraftTek - January
SoFFacet replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think your needs ratings are generally correct. Maybe change the notation next to WR from M6 to M3 so that we get another reasonably early - our receiving talent is really that bare. What do the different WR notations mean (WRF, WRS, WRP, etc)? I think now that the Heisman-esque Aura has faded and his spotless off-the-field record (and on the field for that matter) is stained, I think Teo will slide down most big boards to normal #1ILB territory. Meaning that with the same need ratings, we will end up with WR or OLB43 instead, which is fine by me. In the draft you linked, that would probably have meant WR Keenan Allen California. This is in line with my currently preferred concocted picks (although I change these every few days ) 1. WR Allen California 2. QB Wilson Arkansas 3. WR Swope Texas A&M 4. OLB Jenkins Florida 5. ILB Mauti Penn State 6. RB Riddick Notre Dame -
Da'rick Rogers - WR - Tennessee Tech
SoFFacet replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rogers has been listed second round by most sources that I have looked at. CBS has him 59th overall and 8th amongst receivers. Second round is about the time I think we should be taking a quarterback so I don't anticipate drafting him, unless he fell to the third and we didn't take Keenan Allen in the 1st. -
I like this draft a lot, I definitely could get on board with it. Its very similar to my currently preferred picks, actually. I would pass, I think the defense suffers mostly from a coaching problem, whereas the offense suffers mostly from a talent problem.

The Marshawn Lynch trade; three years later
SoFFacet replied to peterpan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lynch was pretty bad when he was here - he was slow and ran directly to contact. He's certainly played much better for Seattle, so the possible explanations are that Seattle is making better use of him, or that he didn't feel like trying very hard while he was here. Its probably a combination of both. -
NFL RUMOR: Bills close to waiving Vince Young
SoFFacet replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Or Vince Young is just playing poorly. Occam's Razor strikes again. -
WR, LB, etc are our biggest needs on paper - but it would be a mistake imo to simply draft in the order of need. Chan's offense works without elite WRs and Wanny's defense emphasizes DLs and DBs, so probably will work without elite LBs (we'll see I guess). If we could pull an 1st round OG pick like Pittsburgh did this year, I would be ecstatic.

It just doesn't make any sense that the players should have had to give up *anything* to get an impartial process into the CBA. Its disgusting that such a basic thing was used as a bargaining chip by the NFL in the first place. This I agree with, but I think the lawsuits are ultimately more about forcing Goodell to actually reveal his evidence rather than trying to defeat the suspensions. I don't doubt the evidence exists, but it is concerning that Goodell feels no compulsion to actually produce it. It would set a bad precedent if he can just suspend players and when asked simply waive his hand and say "don't worry there's evidence I promise."

Looking back on the infamous trades.
SoFFacet replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't see what Lynch/Evans production (good or bad) for other teams has to do with whether we made out well on the deals. From our perspective we traded spare parts for potential contributors, and that should be good enough for everybody.
