Whaley signs multi-year extension with Bills
SoFFacet replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not surprising that the Pegulas have better judgment than message boards. The only thing DW can do is improve the roster, and the roster is vastly improved. That's all new GM would do, try to improve the roster. But its likely that he would do a worse job. -
The fact that anyone thinks that anyone is or should be on a hot seat one year into a new regime reflects far more on the traumatized fanbase than it does on the organization. "Mediocre" is just a pessimistic shade of "competitive" as far as an 8-8 record is concerned. Competitive teams with stable management eventually improve to become good teams, usually at the expense of fickle teams with knee-jerk ownership. Firing the staff is a last resort indicating no confidence in the staff to improve the team, and we are a long way away from that point.

I think we could use a specific type of WR. Very often this season TT would actually get good protection and/or buy a lot of time with his feet, and people still couldn't get open. We don't have anyone who can reliably carve up the D with underneath routes the way Welker/Edelman/Amendola have done in NE for years, and those routes are critical to consistently sustain drives. I would be open to Coleman in round 2 or Shepard or Addisson in rounds 3-4.

Which draft board do you use? I almost never see Buckner or Billings available at those picks in mock drafts. Big fan of the Matakevich pick, though, and I think we could get him there.
-
You're really not getting it. There is widespread consensus among teams and independent sources regarding the projected draft position of most players. If a team picks a player ahead of projection, that doesn't mean the projection was bad.
-
Wood was injured immediately, doesn't contribute to your argument. Bryce Brown was not an example of a "dime a dozen" RB, he was an example of a failed investment in RB. Gillislee played great, you are reading way too much into that one fumble.
-
If he were better we wouldn't need to draft a WR. But he's just a guy tbh. I think we all had much higher expectations for him.
-
He's referring to projections provided by independent scouting services.
-
I don't think one fumble has that big of an impact. He's been good enough to retain a 3rd string spot.

Do you think the Bills a well managed football team?
SoFFacet replied to PlayoffsPlease's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bad reasoning. For instance, I'm a good fantasy football player in that I make more good decisions than bad and I have gotten more money out than I put in for many years in a row. But that doesn't mean I don't make any mistakes. I've flubbed first round picks before, sometimes for foreseeable reasons, sometimes not. Doesn't mean I'm not a good player overall, its just indicative of the probabilistic nature of the universe. Every decision only has a percent chance of being correct, and good players (in this case GMs) are the ones who consistently make decisions with good odds. It pays off in the long run, if not in every single decision. -

He will most likely already be taken. -
The MMQB: Is Tyrod Taylor "The Guy"?
SoFFacet replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I put the middle-of-the-field and other "decision-making" criticisms squarely at Roman's feet. Our passing playbook is just weird. Better than it was under Hackett of course but for some reason we just don't run many slants. Likewise Roman is responsible for bombs to Sammy on 3rd & short. -

Coming into the year people were thinking that if TT would just not lose us games, the rest of the team would carry him. Instead, TT was the best thing about the Bills this year, and most of the rest of the team flopped. If we could have changed absolutely nothing from last year's team except Orton --> TT, we would have made the playoffs this year, which were basically handed to us on a silver platter by the AFC South / NFC East schedule. -
Thurman is Rex's career assistant, he exists to do Rex's bidding, he isn't going to be fired. Good ideas. Mario and Kyle are getting old and the front-7 frankly was not effective this year. We need to get new, real 3-4 personnel asap. We still won't clear enough cap to make serious runs at free agents other than our own, though. Glenn and Incognito will cost quite a bit. Tyrod will most likely want a restructured deal that reflects what he accomplished this year. We don't need to negotiate with Gilmore since we can exercise the 5th year option. Hogan is good and it shouldn't cost too much to bring him back. Rambo is actually pretty important, if we can't bring him back we'll need to bump safety up in draft priority. Also depends on if A Williams can play again. I'd be willing to draft Treadwell if the draft fell a certain way, but IMO there are tons of OL/DL/LB prospects that would need to be gone. Bosa, Tunsil, Stanley, Jack, Buckner, Calhoun, Robinson, Billings, Ogbah, J Smith, etc. Like I said earlier about needing to get new front-7 personnel. Our offense is explosive but lacks consistency because it can't reliably convert 3rd downs, so I think we could use a Welker/Edleman-type of possession WR more than another Watkins-type. Sterling Shepard from Oklahoma looks like he could fit the bill, and we could get him a couple rounds later.

I thought the same. I honestly hope they change the rule like the did with force outs a few years ago. A defender should be able to do that. Hell, by the reactions of the MNF crew and NFL desk, most people thought you already could do that. By the letter of the current law, its actually no different than when a punter kicks a bad snap through the back of the end zone. Its a penalty on the kicking team, but the penalty for a foul by the offense in the end zone is a safety. So the effect would be the same.

Run blocking needs work. Not OG though, as Incog is playing great, and we just drafted Miller and he's doing fine. OT would make sense. K Williams and D Williams are getting old. Hate to say it but you can kind of already tell with Mario. We actually have pretty good backup DTs already. DE be prudent. Depth behind Clay at TE and Brown/Bradham at LB is concerning. Based on what we've seen so far you really have to bump QB down in priority. DBs are looking excellent, but its smart to draft one every year. Summary: I would recommend a priority list of: DE, OT, TE, LB, CB, DT, QB

Not what I took away from that thread at all. All I saw was "This should be an easy win" --> "I don't know they are actually pretty good in many areas, this might be more difficult than you think" --> "The way some people are talking we should just forfeit now! Tyrod = Elway LOL!!!".

Jon Stewart on Tom Brady...EPIC
SoFFacet replied to Alphadawg7's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Your original statement was "why?", referring to why Stewart will be missed. That is a trollish statement to make even if you personally don't find him funny, because you must be aware of how many other people do. Therefore the idea that you are not aware of why he will be missed must be treated with a high degree of skepticism. That's a pretty hard set of statements to reconcile. All of Stewart's best material is political satire, and his entire show / career has been driven and enabled by the... questionable... actions and statements coming from a certain political party. And that one television network. In a time when so many other media sources have been cowed by decades of whining about so-called bias, Stewart is appreciated for his willingness to criticize when people say or do things that don't make any sense. The jester is the wisest man in the kingdom, as they say. -
RD 6, Pick 188: LB Tony Steward, Clemson
SoFFacet replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's just a strange situation. Usually players that achieve a certain level of hype and expectation carry that forward forevermore. The media loves the "how will he recover from injuries?" and "can he regain his past form?" and "which team will stop his slide?" story angles. This guy was at one point a top-10 recruit in the nation, and it seems like no one even knew he existed coming into this draft. I think it's 50/50 whether or not the ACLs have ruined him completely, or we get a great return on this 6th round investment. Keep in mind they actually picked him before O'Leary, who everyone is so pleased with and who the organization admitted that they think can make a large contribution on offense this year. Should tell you something about the feeling they have about him. -
RD 2, Pick 50: DB Ronald Darby, Florida State
SoFFacet replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Darby was probably a wise pick. There seems to be this idea floating around that we already had great DBs. Maybe it is true that they played well last year, but Gilmore is the only objectively elite player. The rest are only one year removed from being viewed as massive question marks, and could easily regress to their career mean. Lack of DB depth is one of the only things that could scuttle the efforts of every other person on defense, and indeed did so in Rex’ last year with the Jets. Graham and McKelvin being 29, this pick will only be appreciated more over time. -
Rd 5 pick 155 RB Karlos Williams Florida State
SoFFacet replied to Drreef2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The logic would be that he is the back that Karlos is most similar to. So it makes some sense to replace one with the other. -
Based on Whaley's OL comments they will prioritize guard in the draft. Tomlinson, Marpet, Miller, etc should be on everyone's radar. I think you're right that Whaley is playing a word game, but the rub is that the dropoff is between Winston and Mariota. There should be very little dropoff between Mariota and #3 because Mariota is not nearly the caliber of prospect that he has been hyped up to be. I agree, he does seem to be getting the Tebow treatment. IIRC he was consistently mock drafted in the 3rd or 4th rounds before he came out. To fall all the way to the 7th, and then not even be able to stick on a practice squad, does seem conspicuous.
