Year 1) We need to draft the best right guard, best right tackle and best MLB next year with our two 1st rounders and second rounder. Also, draft a QB to groom behind Tyrod. I’ve been thinking about this - Tyrod is really no more than a rookie QB. Rex’s scheme is gone. He’s in year one of the McDermott regime. Patience fellas, patience.
Year 2) We need to fortify our RB position. Draft the best fullback/TE available. Someone who plays in PA or OH. They need to be accustomed to cold weather, holding the ball in frigid temps. A real road grader type player (cross between Jerome Bettis and Peyton Hillis). Then, use second rounder on a solid left tackle with fast 40 speed. Need to gradually groom our tackles into a pulling line where the tackles and center pull and the guards block. Tyrod gets his gift...a scat back in round 3 to help block and give him more time in the pocket.
Year 3) Time to move down in the draft. Trade our first rounder for two 3rd rounders. Tyrod has a better grasp of our offense as a fourth year QB. Here’s where we take a fast WR in round four and plug him into a screen game at the LOS.
Year 4) With our extra picks from the prior year, Tyrod needs a bigger TE so we take a look at Duke Basketball program and find the best power forward prospect, again, from the PA, OH, NY area with parents who either served in the military, know someone who served or wrestled. Hard nosed, agile, dedicated and tough as nails.
Year 5). Allow the tackle and MLB from Year 1 to walk in free agency and secure two or three comp picks. Then, in the draft, parlay your 7 picks between rounds 1-3 into two first rounders and get the best RB on the board. Preferably, 5’7ish to 5’9ish, 160 lbs - 170 who runs straight ahead with larger feet to avoid slipping on the plant foot. No more side to side.
Year 6) Another RB. The league will soon see RB’s as a commodity and we will have a barnfull of them. With five or six of the best RB’s in the leavue we will be able to trade out some players for a franchise QB and WR combo to have a divisional playoff game by year seven. Also, take another left tackle. We have 4 by now, but again, they are like gold bullion: a commodity better than cash.
Year 7) Sit back and watch the fireworks. Playoffs again and again.
