Gruden and Johnson aren't available...Mooch is likely staying where he is as well Jauron was a head coach before coming to Buffalo.....I could care less if the coach had head coaching experience or was just a water boy...I just want him to be good. Mike Smith and John Harbaugh weren't head coaches before they were hired to their current jobs and the Falcons and Ravens have been successful under their watch

Drayton Florence Among Lowest In Burn Percentage
The_Philster replied to bobcat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
TO was the big splash free agent signing from a publicity standpoint Florence was the big splash free agent signing from a production standpoint -
Flutie didn't help us win games in 99...talk off the midget-sized blinders and get off your butts sucking him off. He consistently left Andre and Moulds downfield wide open and tucked the ball and ran...drives ended and Mohr had to punt the ball away when a real QB (Van Pelt was the only one on the roster) would've thrown for an easy TD in those situations. The #1 defense in the NFL carried the 1999 Bills and everyone with even half a brain knows that.

HOF Finalists: Andre Reed on the list
The_Philster replied to Lori's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's listed as a special teamer...they're still announcing the finalists now on NFL Network...the only WR from the semi-finalists who's been eliminated is Cliff Branch -
Ralph actually wanted AJ Smith to take the job but his face was so stuck up Butler's ass that he wouldn't interview for the job considering how bad a coach Ronnie Jones was, most head coaches would've fired him before Ralph even got a chance to say anything different coachBruce DeHaven was still the special teams coach for that debacle...Wade fired him after that and brought in Ronnie Jones, who had no clue what he was doing as special teams coach...but he was Wade's buddy so that didn't matter

Before you call Ralph cheap
The_Philster replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's beyond idiotic to say Ralph is cheap...he hasn't had an issue paying players in decades for one thing and for another, this whole thing about front office people and coaches? Total lack of common sense to say that he's being cheap. A few examples John Butler was not a highly paid GM because all he did was the scouting part of things...he had a guy to do contracts for him and generally didn't go to league meetings that most GMs went to. Had he done more, odds are that Ralph would've paid him more. Why pay someone to do a job they're unwilling to do? Dick Jauron was ranked somewhere around 30th as far as coaching salaries in 2008, coaching under the contract he originally signed...about $1.5M per season. Based on his accomplishments prior to coming to Buffalo, was he really worth more than that? After the 4-0 and 5-1 start in 2008, he was rewarded with a big extension. Compared to 2008 salaries (haven't seen 2009 salaries of coaches around the league), his 2009 salary of $3.5M is ranked about 10th in the NFL...which says that when a coach does a good job, he gets rewarded for it. He willing to shell out up to $10M per year for a top coach...obviously it'll be less than that if it's not the very best coach as it should be. It'd be stupid to pay top coach money to someone who hasn't proven himself to be worth it. -
Donahoe was the team President, too...Ralph took that title back after Donahoe abused his authority

Personally, I hate showboating and always have...but Chad...seems to be in a class all his own...he doesn't try to show anyone up and he always gives lots of respect to his opponents...he's genuinely having fun out there. He's even offered Fireman Ed a VIP ticket to Saturday's game from what I heard

My personal record is set, 100 home games in a row
The_Philster replied to Just Jack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Miami snow game was in 2002...and don't forget the Pats game in 2000 -
Chad was shut down by injury, plain and simple and if the injury were bogus, why would he be getting an MRI?

Shanahan, Gruden and Cowher are out?
The_Philster replied to LGB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
all that means is he's changed his mind about a meeting...but he's yet to say he's not interested -
Shanahan, Gruden and Cowher are out?
The_Philster replied to LGB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They were never rebuffed by Cowher..if you would pay attention to what was actually said, you'd know that the only thing he ever said was that he wouldn't interview with anybody until after the season. -
Should I wear my Gabe Northern jersey tomorrow?
The_Philster replied to Just Jack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He has a tattoo that says "Zeus" and in an article in USA Today early in his career, he said that he hoped that one day, Bills fans would yell ZOOOOOOO the way we always yelled BRUUUUUUUUCE -

I second that ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO anyone who really remembers Gabe Northern gets this reference -
Guess who doesn't like the move?
The_Philster replied to RayFinkle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He came back in late January...when he was here before, he scouted the southeastern US. When he came back, he said that he kept up on college football and still had some contacts in many southeastern schools. We drafted Eric Wood and Shawn Nelson from that region -
The Biggest Factor in the Nix Signing
The_Philster replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I realize that was a joke (at least I hope it was) but some people may actually believe it. Leaf was drafted in 98...Nix was still with the Bills for 3 seasons after that selection was made. The 01 draft was his first with the Bolts and to add to the factors, let's keep something in mind. When he scouted for us before, his area was the Southeast. When he came back, I recall him saying that he was still paying attention to college football and might be able to offer some insight on the 09 draft. Now, it's mostly speculation that he had a hand in the selection of the players, but we drafted Eric Wood and Shawn Nelson from the Southeastern portion of the US...food for thought -
Guess who doesn't like the move?
The_Philster replied to RayFinkle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sullivan hates it....how about Schoop and the Bulldog? We can go for the trifecta.....if all 3 of those geniuses hate the move, it's virtually guaranteed to be a success -
Ten Years Ago This Football Week
The_Philster replied to Dave_In_Norfolk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Something I hadn't seen before, but apparently Ralph admitted he had a hand in the midget's benching http://www.billsdaily.com/weekinreview/2001/apr1.html actually, the reason why was that he was coached that way...as I recall, his college coach had told our new QBs coach in 2001 that he had drilled into him to try to make the big play....that, added into a lack of trust with his WRs, was Johnson's biggest downfall -

First rule of thumb...always question anything WGR puts up about the Bills....the only thing Cowher has ever said was that he wouldn't interview for any jobs during the season Coach Sal has something that even WGR doesn't have....credibility with a good track record on the news he breaks -
thing about McKinnie is this...we had a GM who said that he wouldn't pursue/draft anyone who didn't want to be here...McKinnie made it clear before the draft that he didn't want to come to Buffalo in an interview on Fox Sports Net's Best Damn Sports Show Period

The_Philster replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's actually something that some of us heard almost 2 years ago. Mary doesn't need to pay an estate tax being Ralph's spouse, only a tax on the sale when she sells it to Kelly's group -
speaking of incompetence, thank you for that idiotic post...Peters didn't want to be here and he pretty much admitted he tanked it last year...and he played like it...worst LT in the league in 2008. Had he actually shown up to OTAs, minicamp or even just training camp, he would've likely gotten the deal he wanted, As far as Brandon, he's a marketing guy, not a football guy...he won't be fired..but there will be a new football guy brought in to call the shots for that part of the organization and guess whose idea that was? Russ Brandon's
