Yes! I wish we would have seen more of Brown. Might as well go with Brown instead. This means we draft a QB as we'd be sunk if Fitz gets hurt next year or can't follow up his progress.

Yes, we got the 3rd pick anyway and it's too bad Denver didn't win. I guess the better question is do you think anyone ever tanks a meaningless game for draft reasons? If the Bungels had won they would have had a lot worse pick than the 4th. it was just such a horrendous through by a veteran I couldn't believe it. And they fumbled the drive before. I wouldn't get too worried about the Bills performance. Brohm was awful and there are too many injuries on offense. They moved the ball outside of the turnovers. The defense stopped the run some. The Jets must have had 50 running plays to get their yards. The big problem was they couldn't get off the field on 3rd down. I'm afraid we need a new D coordinator and a ton of LBs.

I understand not going all out to win for draft position such as the Bills sitting Fitz to find out what they had in Brohm (NOTHING - Brown looks better and I would have liked to see him play more. All these players are sprinting in on Brohm and instead of side-stepping them to make a throw or then running he follows through on the world's slowest windup and gets hit as he throws)! And I am glad the Bills lost. However, Cincy has the ball at the 3 at the end of the game on 4th down, a player open in the end zone and Palmer throws a pass twenty yards out of bounds. Please someone who watched that play tell me it wasn't on purpose and some coach told them not to score. They better not draft below us because of that. If they do they must draft someone to take Palmer's job because, if he didn't blow that 4th down play on purpose, he never deserves to start another game in the NFL! I'm pissed that play might keep us from drafting 2nd.

Thanks for all the interesting responses. I don't get to get on much. A few responses: Fitz doesn't remind me of Kurt Warner too much because Warner's strengths were that he was poised and accurate. Fitz is still working on that. Fitz strength is that he's smart and helps get his players in a position to succeed. I like the breakdown of his mistakes. Actually, he lacked poise early in the year and would be inaccurate with the game on the line, throw a pic or some bad passes. Experience seems to be really helping him though. Great comeback against Cinn and he was doing well in OT vs Pitt. He couldn't have thrown a better game-winning (almost) pass to Stevie. He could turn into a poor man's Peyton Manning. Here's hoping we are still talking about him in five years. Even though he's ivy league he is a perfect qb for Buffalo for a few reasons. He's unassuming, a good cold weather qb, hard worker, has heart and a classic underdog. He's the first qb I've really liked to root for since Flutie.

I think the best comparison to Fitz is Rich Gannon. A real journeyman until he had about 8 years in the league and then started to get it in KC with some playing time. Went to Oakland and had four great years. He was smart, not overly gifted, but finally got a chance and was a good leader for the right system. Fitz is way ahead of that schedule. I don;t see why he can't have a half dozen very good years in him and continue to be this good in this system. If Gailey and Fitz are still here in five or six years some great things will have happened for the Bills. Fitz reminds me of Rich Gannon but I have no time to go back and look at stats. Gannon was a journeyman with an average arm until mid-career when he had learned enough to be a decnet qb and got in the right system and was great for about five years. He had heart and learned how to win. Why can't Fitz just be figuring it out at age 27? He's been with some really bad teams don't forget. With Gailey and Fitz the O is good enough. Fix the D and we might be good enough to challenge.

I agree - Luck is the only almost sure-thing qb and he's not coming out. Fitz is IMPROVING! His pct completion is fine. When he gets too excited he losses some accuracy which mostly shows at the end of games. Because this was at Cincy it showed early. But he's LEARNING. He's still young. He reminds me of Rich Gannon. He's smart and a good leader. We can win with the offense we have now. Fix the D. We'd have 2 or 3 more wins if the dbs didn't drop INTs at the end of games. If we keep starting over at qb we'll never win. Fitz has just turned the corner as an nfl qb. We should be happy one problem is solved! I'd still go after a young qb in the draft but now it doesn't have to be round one.

Best part is the message he showed on his t-shirt for TO and #85. A Joker reference to Batman and Robin. "Why So Serious?" And it was great watching TO and #85 totally PO'd at the end. When was the last time we had a player like that who actually outplayed and outsmarted a team like that? All TO had in is bag was a goal post dunk. Every highlight reel should show that message from Johnson. Most people probably don't get it. That was awesome!

Exactly right. The great news is we don't need a franchise qb now. We have an offense that is good enough to win with. Why can't Fitzpatrick be one of the qbs who figure it out a little later than others? Reminds me of Rich Gannon. The only qb I'd want to draft high is Luck and he isn't coming out so forget about it and go win. This also shows we may have the right head coach. All good news!

Dave, I agree 100%. It's not really Nix and Gailey's fault we've been here before BUT they have wasted a lot of time confirming things that everyone was 95% sure were true such as Edwards is a coach killer - looks good in practice but can't perform on game day. They better get started on this "plan" or they will be a top five pick for the next five years. Look at Detroit's agonizingly long rebuilding process that finally might be headed the right direction.

Yes, what is frustrating is Nix doesn't begin to predict how long the rebuild will take. I get that we need to rebuild but we've been hearing that for years. He says he's gonna get there but IMO they already wasted nine months by not knowing what any analyst or serious fan knew. They wasted a lot of time coming to obvious conclusions. They better pick up the pace. Just because you are rebuilding doesn't mean you are making progress. Look at Detroit who has been horrific for many years and may finally be making legitimate improvement. Please tell me we aren't spiraling into that!

I want a pick for a player who doesn't figure into our future and then I want them to learn how to draft! I'm saying our history is we've drafted horribly but I can only hope we've learned a few lessons? I don't know. What's a better strategy?

Good point LGB. We drafted a QB anyway, why not pick one that could have potentially made a difference. I understand the hindsight bias comment, however, if there are plenty of examples of a similar need being addressed much better and where plenty of reasonable people were advocating for those options it just strikes me as a truly poor decision!

Okay, so this is a little early but you know the Bills' scouts are watching games and front office is (should be) thinking ahead. Do us a favor next year (especially Mr. Wilson). STOP TRYING TO OUTSMART EVERYONE! The Bills biggest problem the past five years or so is that they keep trying to outsmart other front offices. For example, drafting the ego healthy (but otherwise unhealthy) McGahee when he's got to sit for a year. Drafting Whitner at #10 where you don't draft safties. Drafting Maybin as a one year starter trying to catch an amazing athlete on the upside. Drafting dumb as a doorknob Lynch and trying to pass him off as a character guy. Drafting waterbug Parrish in the 2nd round. Drafting Spillar #9 this year when you have two RB and no OL. In short, stop trying to draft "the best available talent". You have proven you have no clue who that is! Please draft the closest thing to a solid player at a position we need. Maybe you'll get lucky and actually build a team.

I agree 100%. Spillar is a nice player for the right team. The guy isn't big enough for a team with no OL. He goes down if he's breathed on. RB is the last piece you get AFTER you build a line. There are a lot of capable backs out there. Even if we didn't draft an OL position what about a WR who could help open things up?

We have officially hit rock bottom. We don't even have hope going into these games. IMO this will tell us if the new Bills front office "gets it". They need to trade Lynch for whatever they can get and really start rebuilding. If it's true they can get a third or Hawk they need to do it now. If the Pats had this many options at RB they'd trade one because they realize if you get 8 picks in the first 5 rounds you should hit on enough to improve a team. The Bills problem is they undervalue picks because their draft history is so horrible. They don't value a 3rd round pick because the odds have been it wouldn't turn into anything. They need to start stockpiling picks if they want to build through the draft. If they don't trade Lynch, who is a 3rd string head case, this front office is no better than the previous ones and I can't see where that hope is going to come from.
