I'm not saying the offense has been executing, I'm saying it's not the O-coordinators fault yet.
-
You guys are way over reacting. Manual had one horrible play when he fumbled but the other mistakes were not his. If Chandler isn't tripping over his own feet and the RB fumbling the ball after the catch and the oline getting called for a penalty on half the good plays he would have looked much better. Give the guy a chance. I'm not saying he'll be great but I know I'd hate to be learning the QB position in the NFL in front of everyone being so negative. What do you expect? Everyone knew he was a bit of a project coming out of college. I see improvement, granted, it is painfully slow but the rest of the team needs to get it together and lend a hand.

JohnnyGold I just feel bad you can't enjoy the team any longer. I get as upset as anyone but it is preseason. Yes, we are an average team that will likely find a way to lose more than we win but I suggest you find a new team to root for. There are plenty out there that might not be quite as frustrating (well, I wouldn't suggest the Browns or Jets or Cowboys or Redskins but perhaps the Steelers). And I don't think it's about losing good players. Most of those guys people thought stunk anyway like Whitner, Poz and Lynch (he resurrected his career in Seattle). Others like Peters haven't been that good. We just always have a couple weak spots that prevent us from winning consistently which, I grant you, is annoying as heck each year.
-
You guys need to realize this is preseason. They aren't going to show anybody anything. Don't get on the O-Coordinator before the season starts! If the Bills are scoring under 14 points a game after 4 games you can start. If you want to be upset about something get made at the O-line and the penalties, although most of the penalty calls were terrible.

It sounded like a horrible game but I went back and watched it and I think we are over reacting. Manual wasn't "horrible". It's not his fault the receiver falls down and the other one fumbles. Or when the refs call penalties that aren't there. He was 19-28 for 200 yards. He had some nice throws. The improvement in his game is just coming very slowly. The D had some back luck as well. Granted, his awful play was when he held the ball and fumbled it. It is worrisome that he gets off to slow starts and that the O-line is inconsistent. I worry our defensive backs aren't going to adjust to the new rules and that Gilmore seems to be regressing. But it is not beyond hope. We are the same team as 3/4 of the league - an average team hoping to win a few close ones and win 9 or 10 games. Past history is we'll lose a few close games and end up with 6 or 7 wins.

I don't know why anyone is critical of this? It's great to see the players with the fire and Marrone as well. Of course he needs to send a message about discipline because that's often the difference between winning and losing? Anyone see the article about Chip Kelly and McCoy? Kelly had the team wearing the same socks last year and doing all these crazy new routines that McCoy hated. Now he understands and is on board. If Marrone loses the team shame on the team. Sure there will be a new coaching staff but they'll fare no better than the last five staffs. The players need to willingly give up their self-centered independence and become a team if they want to have a chance to win no matter who the coach is.

1. The Bills are one of the worst teams at the QB position. 2. QB is the most important position on the field. 3. The Bills haven't figured out #1 and #2. 4. How come the Bills big WR draft pick isn't even on the field and the Jets drafted a WR whose big, knows how to get open and already makes a difference? 5. KC will come in looking for revenge after last year so the Bills are looking at 0-2. The Bils need to go 2 -14 this year anyway so they finally understand #1 and #2 and draft a real QB. 6. Nix is not a capable GM so I don't even know if he can spot a good QB. Our drafts the past few years have proven to suck and Gailey is proving he is out of his element in the NFL yet again. Every decent franchise outsmarts us over and over even the evil ones that don't deserve it like the Pats and the Jets. 7. The Bills have some good parts but, yet again, so many weak areas that the sum of those parts still adds up to crap. 8. I wish the Bills were dysfunctional like the Jets but at least had some balls. The Jets called the Bills out as soft last year and they are exactly right. When is anyone on the Bills goign to get pissed off at anyone and demand anything. They should be embarrassed to be so soft. 9. I was offended Forbes called the Bills the most troubled franchise but they are because there is no hope. As a fan all you need is honest hope. A front office that makes sense, a good, young QB, etc. We have an owner who is too self-centered to have any plan for the future so we have no hope past a year or two and the team is so bad we have no immediate hope, thus, it's hopeless anyone puts this puzzle together in a way that isn't more of the same garbage. 10. Okay, the only hope is that someone calls up Bill Cowher and offers him whatever he wants to run everything! I know everyone will jump on me and say I'm overeacting to one game. Problem is, it is not one game. What's their record the last dozen games? I've been followed them for thirty years now and these things are very predicable. And, yes, I do feel a little better now which is the important thing. Thanks for being there for me!

Nix Doesnt believe it trading down
Kurt Warner replied to High Mark's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's a great link. By the way - I don't mean the Pats are perfect and hit on everything but they do pretty well considering where they have been drafting the past ten years. They are good at stockpiling picks so they have more chances to hit, especially the past two years. I just use them for an example. Plus, how often in our own history have we traded up to draft a controversial pick and someone else gets the advantage? JP Losman, for example, who was never accurate enough in college and was his problem in the nfl. Whay don't we do it to someone else for a change? I think the Cowboys made out pretty well on the Losman deal. -
Nix Doesnt believe it trading down
Kurt Warner replied to High Mark's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree 100% and hope he's just smoke screening. When you see how successful the Pats have been at trading down and obtaining additional picks how can you say you won't consider it? Especially this year when there are no consensus early picks. If someone wants Newton bad and you don't, TRADE DOWN. Don't rush and take someone who will be there at 10 anyway. This draft is so important to Nix because he did miss on the first one. I know people will say give Spiller a chance and we will, however, there were many better options and I am pretty convinced he won't be a rb worthy of #9 overall. -
Yes, I agree. I keep saying we need to find someone in love with Newton or Gabbert (who won't make good qbs in the nfl) and trade down. I like Heywood more than Fairly, Darius or Miller for some reason anyway. This year is weird for me in that there's not a lot of separation between the early picks and I don't like the guys the media i hyping for the first five picks. Carolina has really gotten hurt this year as ordinarily the top pick does something for you but I don't think it matters this year. This would be perfect.

One player people are sleeping on here at TSW
Kurt Warner replied to Phlegm Alley's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You should read more posts then...it can't be the WORST! I like JJ Watt much better and I think Miller will underachieve as a pro. Shouldn't have compared him to Maybin because he will be better than that and I know he has more experience but I watched him closely the last half of the year and didn't like what I saw. First, he didn't hustle down plays, over pursued and got caught out of position a lot, didn't look great in pass coverage and didn't look stout against the run. He did rush the passer well. Keep in mind this is relative to being an early first round pick. And at the combine he ran a great time, can jump but look awkward on the movement drills. More awkward than half the LBs out there. For many of the awkward LBs they kept saying, well, he's an ILB but then what is Miller's excuse? I thought, when it came to Miller, no one was being objective and they were just hyping the guy no matter what because of some good measurables. Same with Newton for that matter. I don't think he'll be able to handle the pro game between the ears. Please find someone high on Newton or Gabbert and trade down for more picks. Please no Miller at #3 (or Fairley). I'd rather take Peterson or Darius if we have to stay where we are. Just my opinion on Miller. If he makes a pro bowl you can flame me then. -

Kurt Warner replied to Phlegm Alley's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As long as we don't draft Miller. I watched him move at the combine and he just doesn't look good. Sure, he's athletic but so is Maybin. In the different drills he didn't seem to know what to so, didn't use his speed. The draft experts had to keep making excuses for him. Why? They don't excuse anyone else. I just don't think he's going to make a great pro. Poor technique and he doesn't hustle all the way through a play from watching games. He is one dimensional going after the QB. Let's stay away from him and trade down or get any of these good DL. And I agree I am not sold on fairly because I think he has problems between the ears and I am not sold on Darius either. I really hope we can trade down and egt more picks. I don't really like any of the QBs either. It's a strange year - I don;t think the early picks are helping the teams that need it this year. -
Find someone willing to overpay for Newton and TRADE the pick! We need so much help. It's our only chance. Plenty depth at DL and LB this year so need as many picks as we can get.
-
Ugh. We need so much help. Please trade the third pick for the most you can get. We don't need Newton third.

Ralph's thoughts on the CBA, the team, the draft
Kurt Warner replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Mr. Wilson wants to avoid another ten years of screwing things up he better refrain from making QB judgments. He gets the front office so confused between what they should do, what Ralph will let them do and what they think Ralph wants them to do. I've been a part of an organization like that and nothing ever really gets fixed because no one can do what needs to be done - they can only do what they think will be allowed to be done. Big difference. Stop getting in the way Mr. Wilson! Get good decision-makers (you may finally have enough in place) and support them. Build a team and then find a QB. Fitz might not be it but until you field a real team you won't be able to recognize the right QB anyway. Just like we need an OL before we know if Spillar is any good. Stop doing things backward. Fix the lines and then you'll get some clarity about the rest of the team. Exactly what you haven't allowed to happen the past ten years. -
One of the smart things Levy used to say is that a player improves the most between his first and second year. A lot of college athletes aren't quite where they should be when it comes to core strength, leg strength and, of course, technique. In addition to who we draft we really have a lot of things to look forward to next year if we have the coaching to bring it out. Troupe and Carrington should be much improved, I am very interested to see what Easley does at WR and Battan at LB. Those all look like solid picks if they can stay healthy. I hope we trade down with someone who wants Newton and have some numbers to add to that mix and we may really improve next year.

Is Cameron Jordan the best player…
Kurt Warner replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who is #95 on Cal? Owusu? He looked pretty good as well. Does anyone know anything about him? -
I just signed in to say this is the best breakdown I've read of the whole scenario. Bringing in Wanny is promising and let's hope he can work with Edwards to actually deliver a well-schemed D with enough good players to win. I trust Gailey with the offense. Hope springs eternal!

Are safeties worth a top-5 draft pick?
Kurt Warner replied to Orton's Arm's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would agree the answer is almost never. The best safeties weren't top 5 picks. With early picks you have to draft unique talents. The can't miss QB or the genetic big-body freaks that are also uncommonly quick and powerful. You don't draft RBs, Safeties, Guards, linebackers or tight ends that early because they are more common body types - there are a lot of guys with similar gifts out there so you just have to find a football smart guy with heart. For example, talented RBs are often found in later rounds. Draft someone you can't find in a later round. -
Excellent post. My only wish is they would have drafted a different back. Spiller will never be the same type of back and looks like he couldn't break my tackle he goes down so easy on contact. However, Jackson is the real Lynch replacement and he is fine. No reason to hate on the Bills because he had a great run. Give Lynch credit, although I wish he wasn't a jerk so the Bills could have kept him. He was a head case and not a good example for young teammates like Shawn Nelson who seemed to hang with him. He's the type of player that will wear himself out everywhere in a couple years. The Seahawks are lucky they got one play at the right time out of him before he wears out his welcome there.

Two possible picks playing tonight
Kurt Warner replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's what I was thinking. I expected to see a beast in a big bowl game but I don't think Miller even ran plays down will. Seemed to give up on a play quickly. Looked small and he didn't use his speed well. Took a lot of bad angles, didn't cover well and missed big plays. I did notice he had good pass rushing skills but IMO we need defenders good against the run and pass. He may look good against some inferior competition or on certain plays but he didn't look good play to play. We also need consistent players. I also watched Peterson and he didn't blow me away either, although he looked far better, especially on returns. I can see why people like Peterson's potential on LSU. Not that we need him. -
Cam Newton is the next Akili Smith
Kurt Warner replied to freester's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually I hope he's there at 3 and the Bills get a great offer to trade down for him. A lot of teams will over value to Newton and the Bills need help all over the place. If Fitz doesn't take another step forward get the QB in 2012 when there will be a few good options including possibly Luck. I don't like Darius for some reason and am not sold on Fairley - looking forward to learning a lot more about them. -
with the 3rd pick in the NFL Draft.....
Kurt Warner replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Luck is a great prospect. I don't know about Failey - some concerns there. Darius I watched all season and I think he has some effort issues - don't like him. We need lots of help. I would get someone to trade down for Newton and grab as many picks as possible. Newton is the new Vince Young - great potential but there's just something missing I think.
