With Oliver Value Goes Beyond the Stat Line

I am unsure if you are just be sarcastic/joking around or if you actually think that is the OP's point. Your internet deadpan is impressive. -
Frank Reich named new Head Coach of Panthers
Mango replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
I am not sure this is the case. People keep saying this, but he was Mannings QB coach for only 2 years until they moved him to the WR coach in Indy. He was the OC of a bad SD offense. When he was in Philly, Wentz with Reich and Pederson was serviceable but then Wentz with Reich and not Pederson he was not. He didn't get anything out of Baker or Darnold. Baker had some wow moments once he got to LAR. If anything I think Reich's strong suit might be leadership as the COO of the team, not as an actual X's and O's guy. -
I am less concerned with the X's and O's of it all at the moment. The team was 13-3, a tough record to make major changes at coordinator or FO. But I am concerned that this roster is at a tipping point with the staff and if we don't make a change McD could lose the team. At which point you have to start the whole thing over. Most of it stems from Diggs. He isn't just a guy reacting on his own. By his own announcement and by vote of his peers, he is a captain and leader on the team. The fact that he caused a scene publicly, left the facility, and doubled down on his actions via twitter are a big deal. Because he is a leader, the more malcontent he becomes, and the more struggle this team has, the more that will fall in line behind him. I really wish he cam back to the facility to meet with the media and team on locker clean out day.

Right, I get what you are saying. The Bills should go out and trade for a player that is better than what we have, but another team thinks is not that great at the moment. I am telling you that is the most vague plan. So vague it isn't really a plan. That is just generally what GM's across the league are trying to do every single day. "See what I think the Bills should do is, identify talent they think can upgrade the roster, then put them on the roster" - You, basically.
-
Who? What OG do you see in the pipeline? You're just speaking in vague generalities. "The Bills should do stuff to get better"
-
1. OK? Possible with some restructures and letting some other guys go? 2. Who? Who is trading an all-pro staring OG for Ed Oliver straight up? Pick a team and a guard. 3. A more savy draft/OL poster on this board mentioned this is a bad year for OC and OT in the draft. 4. Brown is way too big to play OG. 5. What team is trading a second round pick for their starting RT? Who is the team and who is the RT?
-
I agree with you on the allocation or resources. It makes me frustrated with the FO, not necessarily the coaching staff. At least on this topic. I have frustrations with Dorsey too. The ingredients are not matching the meal and I don't get it. Barkley only had 330 yards receiving this year. 80% of the board thinks Frank Reich is the solution here and he didn't use Hines either. So WTF does Beane keep hunting this position down? Who is driving this initiative?

Frank Reich named new Head Coach of Panthers
Mango replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
It was just flailing. I think they pushed their chips in with Reich and Wentz. When that failed they had to unload that contract in a hurry and Frank had to do something to save his last chance at his job with a vet behind center. In the last two seasons they gave up a 1,2,3,3,4, 5, and 6th round picks for Matt Ryan, Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, and Carson Wentz. Certainly Ballard deserves some blame here. But Ballard also assembled a decent roster outside of QB. The Colts are mess, based on who is staying, who is leaving, and that they spent big money and picks on QB's Reich was familiar with, I am guessing Frank asked for a few of these by name. (Somebody will inevitably respond with "You don't know that". But this is a message board, and none of us know anything. The entire premise is conjecture and guesses) -
And Daboll didn't use Yeldon or Matt Breida either. McCoys receiving production was basically halves here compared to Philly. There is a continuous disconnect between the FO finding a receiving RB and the staff actually wanting one and it isn't specific to Dorsey.

Frank Reich named new Head Coach of Panthers

Reich would be a good hire for a Houston or Denver who are just wallowing and dysfunctional at the moment. They need some stability. But Carolina is sort of a tweener. It isn't a bad hire, but I feel like they just hired the better version of Jeff Fischer. But they're already a .500 team. They'll likely float around 7-10 wins. It sort of reminds me of Lindy Ruff. He could take any skater and make them a 20+ goal scorer. Which was awesome for half the guys on the team. But if you were a 40+ goal scorer, he would also make you a 20 goals per year guy. -

I am not. I think there is a major love affair for Reich in Buffalo and Charlotte. More so than any other cities. Buffalo for obvious reasons. But he also got a degree in theology from a Charlotte seminary, and was a pastor at a Charlotte church until he took the job in Indy. -
I know the thought is that Rodgers comes with this hire. But what if they don't close on a Rodgers trade and they start the season with Hackett and Carson Wentz. A fan can dream I guess...

Buscaglia: Both Bills Coordinators are likely to be back in 2023
Mango replied to JohnNord's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think Diggs acting the way he did on the filed questioning his QB or OC so publicly (again), not coming back to address the team or the fans the next day, then doubling down on it via twitter, opens up a lot of doors for dissention. Whether I like Diggs as a leader is irrelevant, he is elected captain by his peers on the team. Teammates will fall in line behind him on this. If they struggle next year those numbers grow, and we are in full reset mode. That is the way this stuff works. -
I would rather have Singlerary on Hines contract. I have no interest in paying Hines $4.7M and $5.4M to be a kick returner in our current cap situation. If you are going to be a $5M RB you better touch the ball more than 4 times per game. I think $5M is a fair AAV for Singletary.

I am actually not upset with no changes from a logical standpoint. These guys built us into a 13 win team. The chances of making a major move and getting worse are high. I am concerned that the roster feels to be at a tipping point, and if we run it back there is a chance they lose the roster at some point this year. And at that point you have to blow the thing up. Where just a single change in OC, DC, or even GM could help reset internal belief. For the first time the FO sounds like all questions, no answers. -
Bills Coaching Staff Changes Thread

Bruce Arians said he’d still be coaching if Brady didn’t come out of retirement. If I’m Terry I call him with my checkbook open and ask what it would take to be OC. -
Frank Reich named new Head Coach of Panthers
Mango replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
Ok, so let’s go down that path. You would think Ballard made that decision unilaterally? Or he asked Reich and Reich was like “nah, we got lucky for a year or two in Philly, he’s trash.” Then Ballard did it anyways? It’s not a total coincidence that they spent resources on Reich’s former starting QB right after they brought in his other former QB in Rivers. A lot of mental gymnastics to keep Reichs legendary status intact. I don’t think Reich sucks. I do think he’s “meh”. A good stabilizing coach for a franchise that has been a mess, but not a guy to get you over the hump. -

I think his time was basically up when they traded a 1 and 3 for Wentz and it didn’t work out. The whole point of the move is to recreate the efficiency they had in Philly. But ultimately it turned out that Pederson was the secret sauce. Suddenly Indy was left with a bad contract, down significant draft capital, and no answer at QB….again. -

Charlotte or Buffalo were the two most logical landing spots. I have unintentionally pooped on him up thread. I think he is a good stable coach, but not a game changer. He likely has more "hometown hype" than anything else at this point. Reich planted roots in Charlotte. He got a degree in theology there and was pastor at a local church until he was hired in Indianapolis. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Reich -

I mean, he traded a first and a third for Carson Wentz. His only other swings at QB were Eason and Ehlinger. The big one for me as an OC is that he had an opportunity to revive Wentz and it flopped without Pederson. That to me says that Pederson was the secret sauce not Frank. -

I think he is likely a good coach to come in and stabilize an organization. But I think the super high praise as an OC or HC candidate is largely hometown driven. -

I don't get the hype. Maybe he is a good coach, even great, but I don't know where anybody would draw that from. His 2 years in San Diego his offenses were bad. He didn't call the plays in Philly. And 2016 Carson Wentz was meh. When given the opportunity to make something of Carson Wentz without Pederson it flopped. He got 4.8 ypc out of Zach Moss, so maybe he would be an upgrade? -
I am tempted to agree, but Rodgers had back to back league MVP seasons with Hackett. So as much as Hackett sucks as a stand alone, there might be something to that combination. Devonte Adams also helps.

Bills Coaching Staff Changes Thread

Coverage was very odd this year. We played a lot more man. But we didn't play Elam much. It made some sense when Johnson and Hamlin were running the backfield. They were just not an NFL pairing. But it kept happening even when it was Poyer-Hamlin with Tre and Jackson.
