  1. This is sort of what I was eluding to. It sort of breaks down to “If you’re real enough we will accept you. But if we don’t accept you it’s because you’re too superficial and there is something wrong with you. Be better and you too can be one of us”
  2. I don’t mean to rain on the parade, but as somebody from Buffalo who was born here, left and come back a few times, I find Buffalo less friendly than other places. I think if you’re a lifer it’s great. And even if you transplant yourself here it’s good. But I my experience even for transplants there’s an undertone. You’re never just “John”. You’re introduced to Buffalo bred friend groups as “This is my friend John from Tampa”. And in that group you’re referred to as “Mango’s friend, John, from Tampa”. There is a separation there. It’s an odd sort of gate keeping. Sort of harkens back to coming home for the holidays and on a random Wednesday I can find the same group of guys in the same corner of Coles, doing the same thing we were doing in HS, and their first words to me are “Did you see Canisius beat St. Joes twice in football this year?”…No…No I didn’t. I also find that transplants tend to conglomerate together more in Buffalo than other places. In other places I’ve lived in MA, NJ, OK, I am just Mango and my friend group has been pretty diverse. Just a few things I’ve picked up on in my comings and goings as well as some stuff I’ve noticed and talked about dating transplants in the city. Buffalo is a great town, I just wish it would be more confident in who they are today and where they are going, rather than rallying around the past.
  3. The Browns wish they were getting 2023 Wilson production for Deshaun Watson money. I guess they’ll just have to settle for Watson production.
  4. I think the most hilarious part of Deshaun Watson’s play/contract is that there isn’t another good comparable. Cleveland is in a tough spot, they aren’t getting enough production out of the QB position given the cost. Their biggest problem is they’re paying for Deshaun Watson results for Deshaun Watson pay.
  5. He’s smashed expectations so I think that’s part of it. To your point, right in front of me during the Jets game he got absolutely embarrassed by an OL. Like blocked so hard his body went boneless and he back flipped. It was actually hilarious. That said he’s been pretty decent. When expectations are a JuCo player, it’s ok to be excited with “pretty decent”.
  6. Defenses can’t do everything. My big criticism with Josh when he’s at his lows is he tries to complete the plays he wants to complete rather than the plays he should. It’s a nothing burger. If Josh sticks to this style, teams will start to cheat on some things here and there. At that point he’ll have some more room to run and favorable match ups deeper down field. I am sure he’ll go off on the ground at some point.
  7. I think part of it is maybe a resolution issue? But funny enough I think the smaller NO/CAR game is the one in 16:9. Agreed it’s terrible.
  8. I like that the comp for Deshaun Watson and his skill/pay grade is that Cleveland is in a tough spot since they pay Deshaun Watson Deshaun Watson Monday. There isn’t a decision, contract, or position close to this output vs. paycheck other than himself.
  9. Deshaun Watson is just a mediocre game manager making Deshaun Watson money. 2 half way decent rosters with 2 milquetoast to bad QB’s. What a crazy week 2 MNF. 11-7 and 6-6.
  10. My friends fantasy team has Lamar Jackson, Anthony Richardson, JK Dobbins, Waddle, Nick Chubb, Jamal Williams, and DK Metcalf. They’re all injured. It’s hilarious at this point. EDIT: Chubbs injury isn’t hilarious, but situationally for this one fantasy team it’s a comedy of errors *circus music plays*
  11. I believe public subsidy should have public benefit at its priority rather than private profit. I don’t mind taxes. I don’t mind the state finding things I don’t enjoy, or however you want to put it. But the byproduct has to be a public resource. If the state wants to fund a stadium for a multi billion dollar corporation, then the people of the state should have access to all video transmissions. Similarly my current city is accepting bids for fiber optics to be run through the city, but current plans leave out about 1/3 of the city. But we all fit the tax bill. I don’t mind paying. Just add community value. I find that a reasonably apolitical stance.
  12. I disliked the 40’s for LB and DB’s. It adds a ton of confusion.
  13. The Dolphins are no joke, but beatable. Bills are the same. The interesting thing is that it feels like a lot is wide open with Buffalo, Cincinnati, and Kansas City’s start. Feels a bit like the Singapore GP these weekend. Max out in Q2 and all sorts of issues in the Red Bull. Russell randomly flies off the track. Leclerc disappears. TD Ferrari/Carlos Sainz!!! And that’s Miami right now.
  14. All games played in stadiums with public funding should have to show all games in whatever municipalities helped foot the bill. If the new Bills stadium takes city, state, and federal dollars then every market should be able to see the game. Just my $0.02.
  15. I think there is an ocean between thoughts on this thread sometime. Payton is a good coach. More often than not you will do worse than him if you tried to replace him. I think McDermott is the same but different.
  16. I don't disagree. McDaniels/Brady was the easiest "opposite" to Reid/McNabb I could think of.
  17. I will say it for the millionth time. Brees and Payton cannot both be all time greats/HOF. Volume passing stats are not enough to enshrine both of them. If Payton was as good as some say, and Brees was great, why haven't they ever looked remotely similar to say Andy Reid and Mahomes? They're much closer to Reid/McNabb or McDaniels/Brady.
  18. I don't think this was conservative play. Maybe by Josh's standards and definitely by last weeks. But ultimately I think this is just quality and play from the position. I think we sort of expect these high's and lows play to play, drive to drive, and game to game. Josh was Josh start to finish. That leap was funny. Got lucky it was his college teammate. We have 3 backs with 3 skill sets. I agree rotation for rotation isn't good. Ride the hot hand. But I think we did an "OK" job at using our RB's situationally. Way to bring this back to its roots! Funny enough I have my headphones on listening to a Bobby and the Wolf Bros w/Wolfpack show as I read this post. That drive to open the 3rd won the game. That was an impressive drive that won TB a lot of games over the years. Great post, great game. Thanks for your work and carrying the torch on these.
  19. I mean, they’re literally the worse NHL owners ever. Terrys playoff drought is nearly 2x the next worst in league history. The Bills are a lot better for sure. I get it. But also I get the criticism. I don’t get why they don’t leave 4 seats open in Terry’s box specifically for this. Maybe leave another 4 open in the friends and family suite with the wives, parents, etc. for any additional entourage.
  20. What Bills rep? If he left the stadium then likely no rep was in the suite. Was he supposed to hunt one down? I was at a restaurant a few weeks ago, sitting at the bar. Our food took over an hour. Our bartender didn’t come by once. I couldn’t flag him. Who the hell was I supposed to complain to? If there is nobody there, there’s nobody to tell.
  21. I would have preferred Miami 1-1.
  22. This Miami team is no joke. But also I see a team that doesn’t want to press on offense. Mac Jones has so many opportunities if he just had some more athleticism. Josh plays like he did today and it’s 35-21 Good Guys.
  23. Spot balls are tough. None of the replays showed the ball. I don’t know how they conclusively overturn that even though I think he got it.
