Bears CB Jaylon Johnson Requests to be Traded

Feels like the last few seasons the Bills have been used to jack up asking price for some of these trades/FA's. -
Bears CB Jaylon Johnson Requests to be Traded

Thank you! We have a lot of pieces coming due this offseason with no cap space, and no young guys on rookie deals to replace them with. When people say "It is time for Beane to go all in", he more or less has. We don't have any edge rushers, wide receivers, safeties, or nose tackles to fill in for the coming free agency. Any major UFA/Trade will risk this team going down the Rams/Saints cap management route, which is taking those teams years to crawl out of. I would rather not and just take a mild step back for a season or two. -

This was a million years ago in football terms, but I thought I remembered both offers being comparable. Or even Pittsburgh's being less? Which added to the craziness of the lore of the black and yellow shorts. -

Diggs doesn't really. Not without an extension. We kicked his can about as far as we can without an extension. Right now the team is basically locked into Diggs from now until 2027 at anywhere between $22M-$27M cap dollars per year. Any restructure would just increase that number in later years. I don't think I would extend Diggs past 34 years old right now. I highly doubt that if asked to do that today that that number is a super team friendly AAV. We have no idea what he or this team will look like in 2028. Allen has some more maneuverability, but that is more or less based on the likelihood of another extension. If we see or hear of an Allen restructure an extension is likely very close behind. -
That is the exact point I was originally arguing against. I don't think you can field a complete football team with that kind of cap hit for 3 players. The Bills are estimated to be about $33M over the cap next year with a host of players who play pivotal roles for us. Specifically on the defensive side of the ball. Not only is devoting ~36% of the 2024 cap funds to a QB and 2 WR a historical precedent, it would be wildly irresponsible to the rest of the team. I don't think you can sign Adams and replace any FA in a meaningful way in 2024. Food for thought, there are some real impact players for us coming due. Not to mention we only have 1 RB and 2 DE on the 2024 roster. Signing Adams would have us filling in the below needs plus being $50M over the cap. Hyde D. Jones Floyd AJE Jackson Rapp Davis (Adams fills this) https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/buffalo-bills/

Beane didn't pull an offer from Wallace though? Wallace literally said he made his decision because of the color shorts he was wearing. I am also not a huge Wallace fan. He is fine. I thought Dane was better down the stretch his last season. Both Benford and Jackson are better today. -
For reference Mahomes/Kelce had one of the highest cap% to ever win a SB at ~20% of total cap. Next year Allen and Diggs are at ~30% on their own. Adding Adams would move them to about ~36% of the total cap. Sure, I guess it could be done? But it has never ever been done before. You could restructure Allen to get that number back down to ~30%, but that is still historically high. I don't think you can field a good football team if you have over 1/3 of total cap dollars spent on three guys. You still need people to run, block, cover, tackle, and get after the QB. The sum of all of those guys matter....a lot.

Which is also super weird, the Bears are terrible. Montez Sweat is in the last year of his contract. They gave up a high second for him? I don't get it. -

Very unsure how restructuring works for players on IR? Outside of IR, restructuring Tre would only kick his cap hit down the line. So yes they could, but he likely becomes $20M against the cap in 24, 25, or 26. The Bills can actually save some money in 2024 by cutting Tre. Which is actually a heart breaker for me. I love that guy. -
Starter? After tonight I wouldn’t want him as our backup. I’d rather pick up Trey Lance, Justin Fields, Daniel Jones, Matt Barkley, Zach Wilson, Mac Jones, Bailey Zappe or Mitch Trubisky as our 2nd QB.
-
Are you effing kidding me!!!!
-
Closing in on 60 once you account for sacks. He might complete 10 passes tonight. Watch out!
-
I mean they’ve been fairy dominant. They pinned them inside the 5. Then have sacked JG 3 times this drive. They’re closing this game out. Also, people hold their own teams to a higher standard. Really happy for Goff, but nobody is watching Goff and holding up an Allen/Mahomes measuring stick. Goff got a lot of praise early in his career. Then they were close to winning a few championships and it all changed. Goff is a feel good story until the Lions get close on a consistent basis.

I guess the bright side is that 3 catches and 30 yards could happen fairly quickly
-
I often bet trends, the way I think a game will go, and string together a few individual and parlay prop bets. I won’t touch the spread unless I feel strongly about the outcome. I took the spread in all 4 quarters in this one. Haha.
-
That was the bare minimum. I lost another +1400 on something similarly easy on Thursday. 2+ receptions for James Cook. Like come on. I’d much rather miss the spread than to miss something as easy as 4 catches for Davante Adams.
-
Jesus. I am going to lose another 9 leg parlay on the dumbest stat line. Davonte Adams is going to miss 40 yards and 4 receptions isn’t he? How is that possible?
-
I hope they fire Shanahan.

I think it was against NE there was a play where it looked like he was trying to let the rusher work up and over the pocket, but Josh stepped way up into the pocket/space. It allowed the rusher to release from Dawkins without any issues and walked right into Josh. This is a great adjustment between the two.
-
I don't think there are any juggernauts like the last few years. The Chiefs have struggled a bit here and there, but have Mahomes so maybe they are the closest thing. But they have proven to be very beatable. The rest of the league has flaws. It looks like this season, more so than others, may come down to who gets hot when, and plays great in the run, pass, and all 3 phases. It feels like the NFL is favoring balance this year.
-
Oh well OK then, mister “halftime adjustment” seems to be very anti adjustment. You’re not welcome on my pretend 11 person NFL team.

Do you think the offense was better yesterday?
Mango replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yes, I think it was. My go to, when you have a great QB, is to spread the ball around. You don't just make the defense def Mahomes and Brady have made careers at being willing to throw anybody the ball, at any time, in any situation, then if it doesn't work out holding that pass catcher responsible. The inverse is Rodgers, who is still remarkable, but has also been very open about not throwing the ball to certain players and calling out his FO. Rodgers has a ton of individual awards, Brady and Mahomes have multiple SB's. I don't believe that is a coincidence. (Worth noting that JuJu is getting a ton of hate in New England right now) One thing I noticed last night was how engaged Josh was when the defense was on the field. For years it feels like he mostly sits alone on the bench. At least that is what the TV seems to show. But last night he was with Brady and "Other Allen" a bunch, and we seemed to see him a ton talking to his WR's about what they are seeing out in coverage. Both were a very welcome change. Just a lot more energy from some of the skill positions on the sidelines. That alone makes them better going forward.
