12/10/23 Week #14 GAMEDAY Bills at Chiefs Pregame Thread
Mango replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
I was reaaaaallllly hoping that all the gaffes this week would be righted with Von watching this one at home. Between Von, Beane’s doubling down on his character, McD’s 9/11 speech, Lawson getting into it with fans, and Kelce calling out Phillips, the Bills are no longer the fun and feel good team to root for. Not necessarily speaking for the Bills fan base. I mean from the outside in, other forums have started to turn their perception of this team. -
Von Miller faces arrest in domestic violence case in Dallas
Mango replied to ArdmoreRyno's topic in The Stadium Wall
Per some internet attorney bail can be required in two situations: - When somebody is charged with a crime - Somebody is arrested without a warrant. Von had a warrant. So he would fall into option 1. In general when one is arrested without a warrant it is at the scene of a crime. Like if Von was at the home after the 911 call. Or if you got pulled over going 100 mph down the 290. I’ve seen the line Beck posted and read it a number of times the last week or so. It does not answer the question asked. The league certainly has enough teeth to suspend Von. They are being purposefully pedantic for their own benefit. Some posters are defending it. I would be thrilled if the Bills made the SB and Von was put on the exempt list early in the new year, missing his 3rd ring. -

A magistrate is a judge, so start there. Von saw a judge. Yes, you can be arrested without a charge. I believe I addressed that in my post. Bail is allowed to be set in two instances, 1. Arrested with a warrant. 2. Arrested at the scene of a crime without a warrant. Von had a warrant. Then saw a judge who set bail. It is so odd that you are so hell bent on making sure everybody understands whatever pedantics that the league is trying to sell to prevent outrage and prevent their own further litigation with Von. -

Yes you can be arrested without being charged. You seem to be doubling down on arrest v charges and leaving out bail. The argument for whether or not Von has been charged is being argued by the only people it matters to, the leagues attorneys. Which is sort of what my friend at the DA’s office was getting at. If the league wanted, Vons arrest has enough teeth to elicit a suspension. Full stop. But you keep arguing that people need to understand the difference. And they don’t. If this were your neighbor on your left you wouldn’t go to the neighbor on your right with “well no; check out this link, Joe hasn’t officially been charged even though the police were here, an arrest warrant was issued, and he posted bail. So why don’t we pop over for his Memorial Day BBQ”. -

FWIW #1- I spoke to a friend in the DA’s office today and basically simplified it to. “If you have a warrant and you’re released on bail you have a charge. If prosecution wants to go sit in front of a judge and trial is a different story”. FWIW #2 - I jumped into a legal subreddit to ask this question and somebody responded that in Texas penal procedure authorizes bail in two situations. - Someone is charged with a crime - Someone who was arrested without a warrant. Von had a warrant, was not arrested at the scene of the crime. So a charge would need to be present. I the league is purposely muddling the situation so they don’t have to act. If the Bills do have an out in his contract like some have rumored, voiding $17M will be a historical move and likely trigger further litigation for the league. Add in it being for a first ballot HOF’er, and it is beneficial for the league to be intentionally pedantic. -

I’m failing to see how these Von Millers story is much different than this? On October 23 Ross thought his GF was cheating on him. Broke some stuff. Told her to leave. Shoved her. Released on $2500 bail. Suspended 6 weeks until his hearing on Dec 4. https://amp.kansascity.com/sports/nfl/kansas-city-chiefs/article281640478.html -

The insinuation that talking about Pegula is off limits because the Bills are still here is silly and unfair at best. Where does it start and end? Imagine if the Bills hired renowned international futbol manager Ralph Kruger and went 4-13. But hey, this team could be playing in San Antonio, so STFU. -
It’s Chiefs week - and the season is on the line
Mango replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
Oh totally, I wanted to start the reload last year, but the FO wanted to take one more go at it with the old guys. I get it. With the way this year is going, I think the Bills could maybe be 2 years behind KC going forward. In all honesty, that might not be the worst thing to ever happen. Being a little off cycle from Mahomes and Reid could be good. -
If this was internal why wouldn't they wait until after a loss removes the Bills from playoff contention? Why the week before KC? Hell, even if the Bills won the Super Bowl and you released this in March it wouldn't be the craziest thing that has ever happened to remove McD because of it. But if the Bills win the SB this year, and McD gets fired in 6 months because of this article it will be a really deep PR hole to crawl out of. If the FO thought the timing of this was good we should clear house top to bottom.

It’s Chiefs week - and the season is on the line

The Bills and Chiefs are on similar roster timelines. The Chiefs started their roster reset last year, to which their rookie class way over achieved. This year they are still contenders but have gotten closer to average production from some of those guys. When you pay the QB position (which you must), you have to retool every once in a while when the bill comes do. Which Mahomes is and Allen's is about to. -

It is a message board dude. People are talking. That is it. I certainly didn't present it is gospel. No need to take shots. -
He went walked away from HC of the Bills to become the OL coach of the Jags, who at the time were terrible. Had an opportunity as interim, to which they kept him and he had 1 "good" season, where he finished 10-6 carried by the defense. Marrone ultimately finished his time in Jacksonville with a .348 record. Had he been with a franchise with a real owner he would have lost his job much sooner than he did. Afterwards he has strictly been an OL coach. Marrone 100% flamed out of the NFL HC circle.

It has been mentioned on SabreSpace that Pegula is concerned about the increased costs of the stadium, and saving money for it is part of why he does not want to move on from Granato. Meatballs makes just under $2M per year and will have 2 years left on his contract. That is like making $100k per year and refusing to change your brake pads on your car to save money. -
I thought for sure they’d take the 5 yards and give them some space on the punt.

I totally agree. The NFL prints money. Nobody sells an NFL team unless they’re forced. I’m hating on Terry because he needs to be better not because he needs to sell the Bills. I tend to think part of the reason McD is safe is that Terry knows trying to replace and improve would be difficult (for him). But it seems like the bill seems to be coming due shortly. I’ve been critical of some things with Beane, but I have more faith in him to select a coach. I think he likely stays even though they were originally a package deal. Beane could find himself being a lifer like Ozzie Newsome in Baltimore.

I think a broken clock is right twice a day and I do not, under any circumstances, trust Terry Pegula to turn over McBeane with success. The time will come that he has to. And that time might be now. It’s absolutely terrifying. Regarding the Sabres, I don’t think they’re going anywhere. The day Terry bought the team they were the 4th most winning franchise in league history by point percentage. We averaged 99.9% attendance/capacity for home games. Buffalo’s TV market is regularly top 5 for the Stanley cup. Often beating 1 if not both teams in the Stanley Cup Finals. Buffalo is a quality hockey market. Since purchasing the team in 2011, the Sabres are dead last in both win and point percentage, have the lowest attendance/ capacity in league (71%), and the longest playoff drought in the history of the game (12 years). If I had to guess, due revenue sharing, the NHL hates Terry. Buffalo is a quality hockey town. The league should want to keep a team here. Terry Pegula is amongst the worst sports owners in the history of American professional sports. And I don’t say that lightly nor with any ounce of hyperbole. There needs to be space to have a constructive conversation about how bad ownership is without the threat of leaving. Full stop.

Similar to Araiza, similar to Von, similar to this. Every org knows everything. There’s reports of NFL teams have plants in college towns during the year to get the scoop on draft picks. The league and every team in the league individually employ/contract former federal agents to snuff out these off field issues quietly. It’s a business of “what can I get away with”. It’s not shocking. It is what it is. But I would be shocked if this was new for the org. Having to deal with it in public is why McD looks scared.
-
There is some fairness to the relocation aspect of the Bills. But I am also not sure it’s a forever get out of jail free card. Also he is the worst owner in NHL history. So it’s difficult to say “Yay Terry. King of the sports” because the Bills exist when just down route 5 he’s absolutely ruined the NHL team. EDIT: I think Pegula is accutely aware of this. And part of the reason McD has been listed as safe unless the wheels fall off is because he could run out of goodwill in this town.
-
Also not one of my normal paywall beaters worked on his site. Sort of shocking. EDIT: I should note that I do pay for some news and sports subscriptions. I’ve never heard or even considered Dunne’s. If I feel it provides value ai have no issues subscribing. But I’m not paying $8 for 1 article out of the gate.

Beane Presser 12.6.23 - interesting comments on Von
Mango replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think there is a little over complicating of why this will likely go away. The answer is that Von Miller is an NFL Super Star. -
When Pegula bought the team Buffalo averaged 99.9% attendance capacity. We are always among the top 5 TV markets in the country for the Stanley Cup, often beating out cities who are actually playing in it. I like to think that the NHL finds Buffalo an advantageous city to have a hockey team and don't want them to move. That's my take, but because of that it is almost certainly wrong.
-
I agree he saved the Bills from relocation. I will forever be appreciative. But it doesn't mean he has been a good hockey owner either. It is a bit unfair to chalk up the frustration with Terry over the Sabres and possibly Bills disfunction to "no good deed goes unpunished". My tune would be much different if the Sabres were consistently mediocre.
