Bills receivers are not getting open, but Allen finds them when they do
Mango replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
Let me start by saying every team in the league would love Miami or Cincinatti’s weapons. But once you pay your QB and that cap hit starts to come to life you can’t maintain that. That said, I believe that having Diggs, Kincaid, and Cook as your top 3 targets is a very good set up. The rest of the pass catching core should be role players. And honestly, Davis has had a few games now with almost no targets, and that’s a good spot for him. The issue is setting up Diggs, Kincaid, and Cook up for success. All three of those guys need to be featured on a regular and they’re not under either OC. -
Bills-Dolphins Week 18 for the Division! SUNDAY NIGHT GAME
Mango replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall
I have an irrational (tinfoil hat?) fear that Miami is actually trying to bait Josh into attacking Diggs/Ramsey with all the “Jalen is begging to cover Stef” talk. Josh loves a good challenge, for better and for worse. I think there could be extra coverage rolled over and Miami is betting Josh throws a few balls he shouldn’t in that direction. In return I hope the Bills embarrass Eli Apple so bad that he’s questioning every single life decision he has ever made that ultimately lead him to this Sunday night. -
Bills receivers are not getting open, but Allen finds them when they do

None was hyperbole. There are a couple here who understand the film at a fairly high level. But most of us (myself included) are basically schmoes. -
You can’t say the lucky thing out loud or it looses its luckiness. It’s the first rule of luck. Like the Cowboys game, they played the song “Happy Hour Hero” by the Buffalo band moe. going into the first commercial break. I knew then the stars had aligned. The Bills would win. But if I said it out loud, or god forbid posted it on the message board before the clock ticked to zero I could have ruined everything. …../s (kinda) Go Bills Baby!

Then there are the posters that insist that all reads are high-low, left-right, etc. when in fact there is a primary read of the play design on paper, but the order of operations changes when you get to the line and see the coverage. Then that order of operations can in fact change again post snap once you read and react. We’ve seen a million former QB’s break down film on a million plays across the league and say “when the QB sees player x do y, the QB should know to immediately look at z”. I am no football/x’s and o’s guru but I’ve made a huge effort to watch all 22 for a few years and wrap my head around the intricacies of the NFL game. It’s certainly fascinating. The more I learn the more I realize none of us on this message board know. The least of which are the posters who parrot “our offensive reads are high-low”. TL;DR Football is complicated. -
I’d consider it only because of the known neck and finger issue. Plus there’s the rumor of an injured shoulder as well. A week off could go a long way. The same goes for Diggs. That said, I myself would like some home playoff games. Especially vs KC. Then add in our road record in the pos season. It’s a tough call.

Bills-Dolphins Week 18 for the Division! SUNDAY NIGHT GAME
Mango replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall
Honestly, I think it depends on if they’re actually preparing to win the game. I think the Ravens win this game if it’s some backups in week 12. But I think they might be treating this like an extended bye and not put much on tape. -

Curious if there’s some gamesmanship here. We know Allen/Diggs like to attack challenges like this. I think it’s possible Miami says “Ramsey is watering at the mouth to take Diggs out of the game” to get this offense to go after their best defender early and often, taking some pressure off of Apple. -

As a total smooth brained NFL outsider, I get the sense that McDaniel is a good coach and a good x and o’s guy. Whether he sticks around as HC forever, I don’t know. But I think it’s a little unfair to put all their success on their WR. They’re fairly well coached too. I think Tua is a tier 2 QB. Good but not great. Whatever tier Kirk Cousins is in. I think once they pay him and they can’t afford the weapons around him they’ll start to struggle a bit more. They gave us fits with Skylar last year. I think McDaniel could have some Shanahan lite in him. -
Bills receivers are not getting open, but Allen finds them when they do

And the CIN WR’s with Burrow have over a full standard deviation more separation than Browning? Or that receivers with Flacco under center are a standard deviation worse than with Watson? Curious of how this is calculated in general. Also wondering if this is separation based on the intended receiver or all receivers per play? Which would maybe explain some of the Giants woes. One thing I do know, WR separation is not nearly the black and white metric some posters seem to think it is. -

The issue with Josh a lot of the time is attempting the pass he could make vs. the pass he should make. When he scrambles and/or he's hot there isn't a better QB in the league. But when those wow plays don't go our way his game can be clunky. He often makes plays nobody else in the league can make. But that means that sometimes he overlooks plays every other QB in the league would make and take the profit for the next play. This doesn't make him a bad QB. But leveling this out and picking his spots better would improve the offense overall. I love me some Josh Allen, but this is something that will frustrate a good portion of the fanbase for eternity. It doesn't frustrate others as much and that is OK too. Both groups are correct. -

What is interesting here is the wild disparities in "separation" on teams who have started multiple QB's. Browning vs Burrow being one of them. That is a great corp and somehow under Browning the separation is a full standard deviation less than it was with Burrow? The biggest thing I am taking from this is that WR separation has a lot of variables and not the black and white stat that a lot of posters seem to sell it as. -
Why is Diggs coming off the field on Third Downs?
Mango replied to vtnatefootball11's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't get this one. Allen has had worse offensive lines than this one and Diggs and can play every WR position. He can easily be moved around. I don't know what it is going on, but it is a little weird. -

Mea culpa from me on that one. I raked Beane over the coals for not having anybody else in house. -
So, You are McDaniel and Dophins Management

The Bills want KC at home for once. I think being a seed better than KC is likely personal for the org. That being said, I think Miami, Buffalo, and Cleveland are capable of going in to Arrowhead and beating this years version of the Chiefs. -
Totally agree. The advantage that Allen/Mahomes has is they can make something out of nothing at times. Even in reset years it means that they will always have a chance. KC and Buffalo likely misses the playoffs with Tua at QB.
-
They took the ball out of Josh’s hands. We missed a number of open pass catchers today. Unpopular opinion, but better QB play today and this is a blow out. Full stop.

I think a guy like Rice can continue to work, volunteer, etc. but also never ever be celebrated. There a chasm between being shunned by society forever and celebrated/honored in front of almost 80,000 people.

Aaron Hernandez honorary team captain will be calling the coin toss tomorrow. (Yes I know he’s dead)
-
Yeah. A big part of being reformed is accepting that people may not forgive you, maybe some never should. In order for real change I think it’s important for abusers, addicts, etc. to internalize that. Theres no need to celebrate Ray Rice, reformed or not.

I had to do a double take to make sure I wasn’t seeing this on a meme page but it’s happening. I generally like the Ravens and Lamar. But this is a terrible look. What’s next? Tyreek Hill getting the Presidential Medal of Honor? https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/ravens-will-honor-ray-rice-on-sunday

Daquan Jones’ 21-day practice window has been opened, per McD

With AJE and Jones possibly in the line up, I’m curious if they keep dressing Von. He’s still yet to be productive. I just don’t get it. -

What? Hasek was must watch hockey for everybody in the league. His run in the late 90’s was one of the best stretches by any player in any sport. He single handily won the Olympics. Wayne forking Gretzky said Hasek was the best player in the world while he was playing. He is the only goalie to win the Hart trophy twice. And he did it back to back. Nobody ignored Hasek then woke up in 2010 like “oh shirt, have you seen this excel sheet. I think this Domink Hasek guy might have been pretty good”. Hasek was as big of a star as the league had to offer at his peak. It’s insane to say that people across the league didn’t recognize Hasek as a historical goaltender while he was playing. The only way I can wrap my head around this is it’s some sort of weird hipster flex like “oh I liked Hasek before other people liked Hasek”. -
Im glad we have Josh. He’s always been a great teammate. That said, Mahomes weapons suck. Once Tua gets paid and that contract starts to get reflected in cap dollars, I cannot wait for the implosion. If Mahomes is playing like this I cannot wait for Tua to tank that franchise.
