  1. I'm gonna throw this out there. I haven't caught the all-22 in a while. But last year and early this year Hackett was notorious for basically trying to clear out the center of the field for and in route, with a back up as a check down. Is it possible that yes , the first and second reads on this play are not to the go routes but to the underneath. We outsmart ourselves all the time in play selection when it comes to running right into other teams strengths. EJ and Orton might seem to be in check down mode this season because that's the actual play design. Hell, maybe this is all fooey. Not sure I fully support the premise, but I wouldn't put it past the staff.
  2. In the grand scheme of things in the Hogan MW debate I said this to my buddy during the Miami game. "This is what happens to a team when the coach gives a guy like Hogan a career day, and we don't get the ball to our play makers." That will be Hogans career, a stable guy on a roster who will never, and based on skill set, should never take over a football game. That is unless you want to get your arse kicked by a divisional rival. Sure is Hogan better than MW in the role Marone has him in on the roster. But it doesn't mean it is the best use of our weapons. Marrone has a hard on for him for whatever reason I don't know. Remember when he pushed him in front of Woods. I guess the point is if we played to the skill sets of our skilled players the personel on the field changes. Also came to this conclusion the other day, Chris Hogan = Josh Reed. That realization is especially scary when you look at this offense compared to Jaurons.
  3. Score more points. I think we should do that by sucking less.
  4. Or worse yet....maybe Orton checked into that call....at this point, when it comes to our offense, all I can do is throw my arms up and laugh. It's not some bodies fault it's everybodies fault. On another note, it was interesting to me that Gannon talked a ton about how our WR group is not really helping the QBs put any. Mentioned a lot about them recognizing coverages and running the right routes. I am Not saying they are bad, but we may give this group too much credit too soon. Remember Hogan is the most experienced starter we have. Christ I just said that out loud. Kid of scary
  5. I'll disgree on a few things. Byrd, our safety play this year has been pretty good. Nobody has mentioned once this year that they miss him. His contract wasn't worth it. We got more out of spreading his contract around than he ever would have added to this D. Chandler gets the short end I think. He really isn't that bad. Yes some drops, and no not a marquee TE, but the dude is probably top half at his position. I don't think we are utilizing our TE's well. Doesn't mean I think Gragg and Smith are operating at submaximal. Dropping Chandler is a mistake. I'd classify him as a good pass catching TE. Not sure we whiffed on Kolb so much as Kolb whiffed on himself. We aren't sure of MW's cap penalty yet. At least I haven't seen anything concrete. A lot of reputable sources reporting contradicting things. If it counts against us, I assume we are just Doing him a favor. It was reported quite a bit that Orton didn't want to be at camp. Can't get a player in if he won't sign his contract. Granted that points to your overall concern with the managing of QB, which I get.
  6. 2 things: 1. On the Jauron thing. Nailed it. Never thought of it before but that's exactly the way this offense feels. 2. I have been big on this in the past. We always yammer about not drafting Wilson, Kaep, or Brady. I can say with a great deal of confidence that those guys would never be the players they are now with this franchise. That's not to say that I think we blew huge talents in JP, Trent, or EJ. It is just that I have had little confidence that any of those coaches are getting that out of their young QB's. Example...see Alex Smith. Unless we have a really cerebral guy like Fitz, then we get almost exactly the same production out of every QB regardless of skill set. How in gods green earth can we get the same production out of Tuel, EJ, Orton, and Lewis. That's just the last 365 days. Trents and JPs numbers fit well there too. I'm tempted to even say that a guy like Luck wouldn't lead this team the way he does in Indy. Newton would be cut already.
  7. That reminds me, how can Kim and Terry own both the bills and the sabres? Is that even allowed? I wonder if that has come up at an owners meeting.
  8. This^^^ I have myself started looking at FA QBs, but at some point if the Bills keep Manuel around they have to bite the bullet and live through a season or two of starts to see. He isn't Geno bad, or Gabbeet bad. Anybody saying that the same type of people that oppose that with the Manning 28 interceptions. Rookie QBs take time. Yes there are anomalies but QB play is set pretty low across the the league right now. Christ the top 4 QBs have been the top 4 for a decade. In all seriousness Favre was on that list not too long ago. The league is discarding QBs at a pretty high rate and the overall quality is not good. I think coaching is down league wide as well. There are a handful of good ones and everybody else is just trying not to mess up.
  9. I am aware of how the power structure normally works. I am looking forward and just spit balling a bit, but if Whaley was thinking of changing the offensive staff, don't you think he would have kept MW to see what a real OC could or couldn't do with him? I guess I al asking if this cut this late in the season is a sign that next season will be more of the same. Inversely maybe Whaley is backing Marrone on this and MW has jumped the shark.
  10. EJ did it. Our best game of the year was after a week of no practice. Orton looked better v. Detroit with barely any reps. So yes
  11. Something that just occurred to me. For those hoping for a Marrone or Hackett fire, you would think that Whaley would keep MW and see what a new OC or HC does with him. He didn't. So it presents a few questions. 1. Who is controlling the roster, Whaley or Marrone? 2. If you are even THINKING about replacing somebody in the offensive side of the ball why not keep him?
  12. It takes 2 weeks to adjust to altitude. Sometimes more. It's fine for mental prep but overall a useless physiological endeavor.
  13. If our defense played our offense for 60 minutes of football I think our defense would at least tie if not flat out win.
  14. No he needs to apologize to us. We keep players like MW on the bench so that his buddy Marrone can save his job.
  15. The court punishment was an absolute joke. I've seen guys get more than that in court for a DUI. It was absurd and a very liberal use of the term punishment. In regards to the who is the NFL, you're correct the U.S. judicial system is the only place in life that has any consequences for your actions....put John Smith at the top of his resume and have him go find other employment. Then let's see if this guy is a hirable employee. Again other than imprisonment the courts can't rule, "don't go to work for the rest of the year". This line of thought is so flawed and nonsensical to me. When you do crappy things sometimes you go to court, and sometimes it costs you your job. Welcome to life.
  16. The issue I think is beyond the Ralph. We can clean that up. It's parking and the rest of the infrastructure in the area that is the problem. Simply, it is a safety risk getting peoe to and from the stadium, let alone parking and seating.
  17. I never really understand this. Something as simple (not demeaning the offense) as a DUI conviction would cost many people their jobs or make them unhirable for a lot of professions. The courts never said don't hire this person. They don't rule that you can't go back to work, yet it happens all the time, and reasonably so. So I posit this to, not just you, but other posters as well. Go beat your kid with a stick, bloody and bruise his genitals. Have it in the front page of every paper. Then show up to court and tear positive for weed. (Not a weed issue, just a known agreement based on probation). Then go sit down with your boss and tell him all about it. Think you still have a job regardless of court judgment? The answer is no in just about every profession. Teacher, IT, engineer, graphic design, realtor. Sure you are welcome to find other similar employment. The part I think people miss is that the company is the NFL not the teams. Akin to being banned from McDonalds. Sure go to BK, problem is there is one NFL. I'll say this, I lived at the Olympic Training Center for a few years. I do this, and I am kicked out in a a second.
  18. Never against Bellicheck. The last thing I want is to have to deal with a full half against an angry Bill and Tom
  19. I won't comment on realism or should. One major problem could be too many players in the huddle. Granted there isnt one but something says this rule could be imparted. Even if you have player fake come on and off, I inagine if they come on the field even prior to the snap it could constitute. You have Fred or CH take the snap. It's ab option play so depending on what the defense is ready for they can do what they want. Yes any offensive substitution has to give time to the defense. Remember the Schiano debacle where they actually went after the kneel down for a fumble. It wasn't well received.
  20. So we scored a touchdown then!!! Good news
  21. People keep pushing this stuff and I don't know where it comes from. I hope the Bills turn around under Pegula, but there is no history in his tenure as a professional sports owner that suggests this. Infact it is the opposite, one may consider him meddling. Scouting players on his own, "Ted black doesn't have a monopoly on hockey knowledge around here"
  22. Forget EJ. Winston is loking like a disaster, and I am guessing there are at least 10 teams with QB issues that have already written him off. But thanks for playing.
