Groy & Bodine = $4.6 mil in salary cap at center
Mango replied to Punt75's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I read a stat a few months ago (trying to find to confirm), that in the years Whaley was named GM (13-17) he has more starters in the NFL than any GM in the league. -
What areas of the team has Beane actually improved?
Mango replied to Yeezus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not to pile on, but White was also not a Beane draft pick. Haha. Too bad EJ Gaines couldn’t stay healthy for us, and we didn’t offer him an extension. I was fine with the Watkins trade for him since we were never going to pay him. A healthy and re-signed Gaines would have been a great Beane move. but I guess that’s too many what if’s... -

Beane didn’t bring in Hyde or Poyer, Whaley did. I don’t know why people keep using them as an example, it’s a bad one because the credit goes to the prior regime. -

I totally agree with you, my post was totally sarcastic. -
5 biggest positional concerns for the starting 22
Mango replied to Mango's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The more I spend time with it, the more I agree, CB 2 should be 5 on the list. Maybe higher, and swap with one of the interior OL positions. This isn’t to bash Allen, but that first throw to Clay that bounced off his hands, Clay has to catch that for sure. But as much as Allen’s velocity allows him to squeeze throws into windows, making it hard for DB’s, those types of fastballs are tough for receivers to catch. He’s gotta learn to take a little off some of those throws. -

Haven't followed any of the Jags offseason/preseason. I will keep an eye out when the season starts. Just going off of 2017. -

I don't totally buy that. Dareus left, we got worse, Jacksonville got better. To me that flat out lazy players generally don't generally create that sort of swing when leaving. I don't see him as a Haynesworth type of guy. Part of your job description as a HC is getting your top athletes to engage at a high and consistent level. Marrone seems to be winning that battle vs. McD in regards to Dareus. I hate saying that because I HATE Doug Marrone. But it is currently the reality of the situation. Marrone last year got more commitment from Dareus than the Bills did, assuming the claims that Dareus is lazy, are true. -

Yeah, I understand the reasoning, I just disagree with it. Dareus carries more in dead cap space this year, than he would have on the actual roster. We also could have either straight cut him after this season with ZERO cap implications. We are paying his replacement the same amount we would pay him if he were on the roster, for lesser production. -

Between dead cap and Starr's salary, our DT1 is costing this team ~23 mil this year.... -

Wait, what? Are you saying yesterday was planned, and not only planned, but with a good result? -

I very much disagree with the idea that teams largely get better by subtraction of talent. Sure you have your TO's and such. But guys like Darby, Glenn, and Brown don't fit in that category. This was not a team of misfit personalities that Beane inherited. Our defense got worse without Dareus, and Jacksonville got better. Eliminating talent because they "aren't your guys" or "don't fit they system" doesn't really have a long history of success. -
Somebody mentioned this in another thread, thought it was a good topic to discuss. The sad part is we are about to start a 5th round draft pick (who threw 5 picks in a single half) at QB and that position isn't even on my radar currently. Special shout out to WR1, CB2, CB3, OLB, and DT/DE (pass rush). All of which I put ahead of QB as of right now. I probably go: LG C RG RT MLB

What don’t you understand? We are clearing out all of our bad contracts we have to quality football players at important positions, so we can over spend on really bad depth, and unimportant positions. Its the process... (Sarcasm) -

Thats not true at all. Beane hasn’t upgraded the secondary at all this year. In fact it probably takes a step back from last year. We lost CB2 and CB3, without a viable replacement. Depth behind Tre is a giant concern. He also traded Darby. Whaley got Poyer, Hyde, and White, just for clarifications. If you’re trying to compare years, last year was better. If you’re trying to compare regimes Gilmore/Darby > Tre/Davis and it’s not close. -
[Vague Title] The Sky Is Not Falling
Mango replied to ColdFront_USAF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like McD. Not calling him to be fired nor Beane. a lot of our holes and current cap situation is created by the current FO. They shot themselevs in the foot. I don’t want to turn over the FO, but I am keeping a close eye. Wasn’t a fan of the Darby, Glenn (I do understand this helped us get Allen), or Darius trades. They also failed to bring in quality replacements on the OL. I think we should have tried harder to keep Preston Brown. Our starting defense as a whole and offensive line could be much better. Instead we created roster holes and dead cap because Whaley I guess. They’re in a tough spot because they put themselves in a tough spot. The Dareus trade with the Starr signing, means our starting DT costs us about 25 million this year with salary and dead cap, -
Who will start preseason game 3 vs Bengals?
Mango replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who starts game 3 vs who starts week 1 are two different things. Allen deserves a shot with the ones in preseason. So should be him. That said, start Peterman. Watch an MFL QB prepare for a regular season game. See the game at real speed not preseason speed. Learn what regular season defenses are showing. Make sure the OL isn’t a total disaster. -
National Josh Allen buzz after 1 preseason half
Mango replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hi Brittany! Feel free to slide into my DM’s -
They get two and you’re still down by a possession. So still fine throwing the ball.
-
The issue is, in that situation, on a 2 point conversion, you can’t let the play break down like that. He needed to get rid of the ball and at least give somebody a chance to make a play. It’s a 2 point conversion, there is zero downside to just letting it rip.

Interesting Astro Tweet re: Beane

Dez is still around/unemployed, right? I am no WR guru, but what about Dez and Coleman on the outside, and KB in the slot. KB beats nobody with speed. Feels like he could be a good possession receiver. -
I mean, unless it came with a new (lesser) contract, what wouldn’t he agree to? “Cordy, you’re competing for th starting LT this year. Dawkins did well. It will be a good battle. We still have a few spots we would slot you in to start on the OL if that doesn’t work out. Also you get to keep you’re starting LT money regardless”
-
Full agreed. I’ll add on, even if Dawkins is the better LT (the best ability is availability), Glenn could have helped us tremendously at RT. Or even kicked inside to OG, where most people had him pegged. Could have solved a few issues for us on the OL. I get the trade but dont love it. Also don’t hate it.
