McDermott, Daboll, Frazier zoom session 9/13
Mango replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What an odd response. Maybe I am missing something, but if Josh is not in rhythm, surely we can do more than decide whether to hand the ball off, call options, or have him throw the ball. You know, like, some short quick high percentage passes to get him going a bit. -

So that was the result from a 100% Dawkins? Yikes, it will most certainly be a long year if that is the case! (which I do not buy. Dawkins is not at 100%. Either from Covid, or laziness, or his dog died. I don't know) -

A Few Thoughts about the Steelers Game, in no particular order
Mango replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can get behind this. But I am not sure who he replaces though. Thinking about the game today, it’s amazing to me that with all the 4/5 WR personnel we marched out there how terrible of a job we did at finding any desirable match up anywhere with any consistency. I don’t think Davis solves this. We have yet to find much of a competent(consistent?)run game once McCoy left and we haven’t been able to make up for it in a high percentage short passing game either. It’s been going on for years now, which makes it frustrating and places blame on Daboll/McD, Josh, Beane, and the RB room. leaving the WR Corp out of this since it’s been a good group for 3 seasons now. -
Allen comments on getting too hyped up before games
Mango replied to Giuseppe Tognarelli's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dabolls offense under Allen has always seemed to lack the quick pass and efficient screen game. We almost never see Allen take a quick 3 step drop, hit the top and release immediately to a WR on a slant, in, etc. When the run game doesn’t work we really struggle to either design or execute (unsure which it is) an efficient counter to help make up for it. -
There were some issues yesterday that far surpass Allen’s fumble. Like staring down receivers pre snap, not identifying the open receiver only to throw into the double covered primary, as well as issues controlling arc and velocity on long balls. Ill trade any of the above issues before I even think about his fumbling.

Watching the game again this game is all on Daboll
Mango replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hot take: Since the closing of the BBMB this place has become way more fickle. Daboll isn’t perfect, the hype around him last year was way too high. Him and Josh have their issues and sometimes they are the same thing at the same time. The 4th down play against Houston comes to mind. Why even call a play with Dimarco down the seem, and WTF did Josh throw it into double coverage.l? Daboll deserves some criticism. Hes gotten criticized for the same things year after year. Last year is the blip. He’s not terrible, but he’s not a stud either. He has done a decent job of developing our QB. -
Probably not. He had a moment or two yesterday. But his 25 yard pick up is overvaluing his production to fans. He had a good day yesterday, but nor carry the team great. The offensive unit/staff as a whole lost the game. There is not a single quick fix for that other than just being holistically better.

The total miss and talent evaluation by this staff on Wyatt Teller is always a head scratcher. I just don't get how we could be so wrong, so immediately on the guy. Traded and immediately a stud. I have a lot of difficulty wrapping my head around it. -

Because somebody has to play the role of TJ Yeldon! The staff just has not quite figured that out yet this offseason. Hoping they can get that right after week one. Right now Moss may be the front runner with a comparable performance in street clothes. But the way the staff did not use Breida situationally suggests that he may be able to win that job. They may go the course of TJ Yeldon by committee. It will be interesting to see how this situation evolves as the season progresses. But one thing is for sure, and that is neither Breida nor Moss are taking this battle lightly. -
Miami barely beat New England.
Mango replied to BuffaloBills1998's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Admittedly, I did not see that game since the Bills were on and I was at the stadium. But.... I pegged both Miami and New England to be wild card contenders this year, so it is not a shock they played each other close. After one great season, Bills fans are really not giving enough credit to a lot teams. -
The Steelers game was over with this play.

Matt Pinsent threw up at the starting line of every Olympic Final. He won gold medals at the 92, 96, 00, and 04 games. Anxiety can be really great or really terrible. Some people figure it out and others don't. I don't think the fan base should get all worried about it, but the erraticism from Josh is somewhat concerning at the same time. -
A Few Thoughts about the Steelers Game, in no particular order

This is where I am on every play. In my section I said the same thing about the Wallace PI call. You HAVE to get your head around. He tracks the ball, then it is no call. People told me I should go buy a Steelers jersey. HA! I would like to see the Tre call again. There was some contact, but nothing for a call. The one I would like to see back is the Allen throw to the end zone at the end of the game. I am tempted to think it is similar to the Wallace call, but I haven't seen much replay yet. -
This was my take away as well. I am relatively OK with the insistence on keeping guys for ST. Although I think as the roster gets deeper, better players just create better special teams, so I do hope it sort of goes away at some point. But if you are going to do stuff like keep a Taiwan Jones and cut TE depth, you can't afford to be having blocked punts as a staff. Also, from a pure punting standpoint, through preseason, I don't know what we are getting in Haack for $1.5M per.

The only thing I disagree with you on is the DPI call. Wallace made contact with the WR who was trying to come back/track the ball. But Wallace never turned his head around to track it. Is it a bit of a ticky tacky call? Sure. But it wasn’t a flagrantly bad call. My biggest issue with it is, if that’s the way you’re going to call the game, call the entire game that way. The answer is actually Taiwan Jones and ST. -

I have thought Dawkins is good and a good enough replacement for Cordy Glenn’s best few years here. I like Dawkins but he’s not in the top the conversation with guys at the top of the depth chart across the league. -

So a lot of people around me in the stands thought that Sanders drop was at fault for the blocked punt. Two things: 1. Sanders should have caught that seem pass that resulted in a pint the next down. 2. I think a lot went wrong on that punt that resulted in a block. The previous play was totally irreverent. extra point: totally unrelated but very unpopular in my section. Levi Wallace HAS to turn his head around. The WR slowed up and looked for the ball. Wallace didn’t do anything particularly egregious other than play the WR and ran right into. Which is fine….if he’s try to make a play on the football. -

Are we going to be like the obnoxious and unbearable Patriot fans?
Mango replied to Leonitas's topic in The Stadium Wall
I saw a bunch of Bills fans on Allen this afternoon (grabbed wings at Gabes Gate)surrounding a guys truck with their Bills flags and decked out in jerseys. So there’s a good possibility. Ha! Seriously though, we’ve seen some threads this off-season about Allen breaking breaking every NFL record imaginable and a whole bunch of similar topics. Unfortunately we may be trending in that direction. -
Stefon Diggs launches line of hot sauce and blue cheese
Mango replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That’s an exaggeration for sure. As a guy who has about 30 bottles of hot sauce at home made with probably a dozen different peppers ranging from Serrano, to habanero, to pepper X (by far my favorite super hot pepper), and a bunch in between, I would most certainly disagree. Frank’s has its place, sort of the same as Cholula. I mean there are bad hot sauces and this, nor Frank’s, nor Cholula is bad by any standard. My big gripe with Frank’s isn’t that it tastes bad, but that it doesn’t have enough heat. The Diggs sauce does taste a TON like Frank’s, but has much better heat. Closer to the Franks extra hot, which I think is a good sauce and have it in my fridge. I did get the Bills “hot tailgate sauce” too. That tasted like watered down and less spicy Franks. I wouldn’t purchase again. But the Diggs sauce, plus a charity? Tasty and for a good cause. Go for it Bills fans not a bad one to keep around. -
Fox Fan bracket...don't forget to vote Update: finals voting
Mango replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Left side of the bracket is way tougher than the right. Also, the Chargers, one of the smallest fan bases in the country. Moving to a new city, known for being terrible football fans…still beats NE! Love to see it! -
I agree with Brady here. At first I thought “what’s the big deal”. But it’s been confusing watching the preseason and I can only half understand NFL concepts, let alone be an expert. It’s probably frustrating and something that will be overcome as we move forward. We have edge rushers wearing 11. It’s odd. I guess to Brady’s point, the advantage has been the offense for so long, this switches the advantage back to the defense, which is good.
