Not to over correct. But he’s running routes at about the same rate as last season. 2021: 75.4% of snaps he runs routes. 2022: 69.8% of snaps he runs routes. But 70.7% the last 3 weeks.

Thanks for adding so much to the conversation and being a reasonable human to a reasonable question. But sure, here you go. Knox is running routes on 5.6% less plays than he did in 2021. In the last 3 weeks his decline is less than 5% decrease in routes run. https://www.playerprofiler.com/nfl/dawson-knox/#bio https://www.fantasypros.com/nfl/reports/snap-count-analysis/?team=BUF&snaps=10 Go find a more accurate hill to die on and stop being such a curmudgeon. Maybe you should have tried looking it up… He isn’t running less routes though. Everybody keeps parroting that it’s because he’s blocking so much more….but he’s not. He’s just being targeted less.

Is this even true? People keep saying this but I would actually love some data around routes run vs. snap count. Trying not to be hard on Knox because his life is hard. But I don’t even know if this is true.

We ran 3 LB sets last year with Klein at one point after a similar skid. But then ultimately went back to their base and we all started whining again. Everything is built for the teams to play catch up against us. Which means we have to score wart and often. 2 bad days from Josh means two bad days from the defense.

He didn’t make any change. if there’s a change, it’s likely regression due to lack of muscle memory and range of motion. Josh said that for the first time he didn’t do anything but rest and recover. Ian Eagle joked today that when asked Josh said “Golf”. It’s come up in every single prime time game. So when we have threads that go “Josh looks like 2020 Josh for multiple games” the simplest answer is usually the right one.

I keep coming back to the fact that Allen said he didn’t do anything but rest and recover this offseason. With the benefit of hindsight, Allen hasn’t just had two bad games. He’s certainly looked bad. The guy recently reinvented and retooled his natural throwing motion. Not hugely surprising the whole system looks wonky midway through the season. I know in my sport it would take years to make the smallest adjustments permanent and applicable under both physical and mental pressure. I couldn’t imagine not doing anything to reinforce that between world championship seasons.

I think we’re missing something as fans. Two weeks in a row the offense struggles and two weeks in a row Davis draws CB1 coverage all game. I will have to go back and watch, but I’d like to get a count of routes run by Knox. It seems lazy to say “well he is primarily blocking”. Right now just feels like the Allen is force feeding Diggs. To your point, we need to commit to the run a bit more. I thought trading Moss would help that since it would give Singletary more touches to get into a rhythm. Fast forward…it didn’t.

I thought it was likely an interception. Some people I was with thought it was unfathomable McD didn’t throw the flag. I don’t know. Play was ruled jump ball and favor of the offense. The Jets got a play off in what seemed like 3 or 4 seconds from ruling to snap. CBS didn’t even show the third down play. Heads up play from the Jets on that one. Not a ton McD could have done there.

Are we sure these are mental yips? Didn't Josh say that for the first time he didn’t do anything this offseason other than let his body rest? If that’s the case, should we be shocked at consistency if at the mid-way point? Especially for a QB that has had to work so hard to change mechanics in the relatively recent past?
-
The Bills just weren’t good enough for me to care about a holding call. Allen sucked. The run D sucked. Fix those and none of the calls matter.
-
Unsure if it’s a real concern or reflex after 6 terrible quarters but Josh did say that this is the first time he didn’t do anything in this offseason and just let his body rest.

Why oh why are we not establishing a running game ?

I think our OL sucks. It’s not terrible but it’s a little better than “meh”. I think Dawkins is good but not great. Both guards are up and down. And we still have needs at RT but we’re “serviceable” Morse is our best OL and there is a good chance he won’t be here next year. I’d be OK with moving Dawkins inside if they find an OT they really like in the draft. I think Buffalo goes OL early and often in 23. -
I wouldn’t be shocked if some of the run D issues are partially because vets like Taron and Poyer are a half step slower to react given they have to cover for some of the rookies/backups at safety and CB. Then add on the fact that there are actual backups and rookies playing. Also…Edmunds.

Josh threw a terrible screen to McKenzie in the second half. We were lucky to get out of that without a huge loss. I am not a huge footwork guy. But it looks like Josh’s drop back has been a lot wider/longer the last two weeks. Same with his base when he throws. Wasn’t that something he worked on his first two years as a rookie? Looks like it might be back.

I have been super frustrated with Elam the last few weeks. Dane struggled late too (who I’ve been high on). I don’t want anything to do with Jaquan Johonson. I don’t get why anybody was ever high on him. The Bills have a big question mark here next season. I’ll have to rewatch the game to see WTF happened to the run defense. We were all so high on Settle, Jones, etc. It felt like Edmunds was playing better. Earlier in the year I thought missing Poyer/Hyde really hit our play recognition. But I don’t get why it’s getting so much worse.
-
On the Josh incomplete a play or two later we committed an obvious holding that went uncalled. My thought is, if you suck like we sucked today, you lose your right to say “well that one holding call was trash” We allowed 94 yards rushing on the final drive. Allen was outright bad today…but that holding call though? Hard pass on that conversation.

The NFL Head Coaching pipeline... running dry?
Mango replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
My only point of correction is that I actually think Ken Dorsey is better than “we haven’t skipped a beat”. I think Dorsey has been a better OC/Play caller for Allen and Co. than Daboll was. I hope Buffalo pays Dorsey enough to not want to leave in the near future. -
I don’t know how much OBJ has left in the tank or how productive he’ll be in the playoffs for anybody. But, there’s a scenario where he is super productive for somebody. If he signs a one-two year deal it will be with either KC, BUF, or PHI. I think it’s worth spending a couple bucks just to hedge our bets that we don’t have to deal with a productive OBJ on any of the other two rosters come January/February. If he signs a big money long term deal coming off of his 2nd ACL injury, I am sure Jerry Jones will be the one to give it to him.

NFL Week #9 - 11/6/22 GAMEDAY Bills at Jets Pregame Thread
Mango replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall
Im glad we have the Jets to get help get Tre warmed up and let a couple of guys rest up some injuries. Frustrating, every week we seem to be playing injured at key positions.
