I think he can find some productivity. But that depends on how willing he is to be a role player. I imagine that at some point he'll command attention from the offense that he can't fulfill on. If he were a more Larry Fitzgerald type human (and talent), he could likely be a very productive WR for a few more years But alas, he'll go the ODB route and try and team hop and catch fire as "the guy" only to flame out of that role.

Huh? He is the highest paid QB in the league.... I don't think the deal is good or bad. It is fair market value that works for both sides. There are just a number of posters insinuating that this is some super awesome selfless thing he did. He played like the best QB in the league. Then he asked to be paid like the best QB in the league. Now he is the highest paid player in the NFL. I am fine with all of that.

Regarding Knox, I think we could maybe see an extension here. He hasn't lived up to his contract, yes. Which is why I think a mid to long term extension at a more fair value to finish his career with Josh could be on the table. Taking on 3-4 years (34/35 years old) to keep him under $10M would be huge.

Let me start by saying, I think Josh's requests and current deal are more than fair. And by all accounts Allen is an all time good human. But I also see stuff like this posted a lot. Beane admitted that Josh has been needling him with every new contract that he isn't paid more. We didn't get a 6 year extension, we got a 2 year extension with a pay increase for the next 4 years that was already on the books. The deal helps Josh. The deal helps the team. But lets not pretend that this is a TB12 type pay cut. We are talking about a contract that is the most guaranteed money in the history of the league. Again, this is a contract he was asking for. It is fine and good, but I don't find it remarkable or deserving much thanks.

Tin foil hat? There is maybe a non-zero chance that if they get fired after the season, Deion becomes the next HC of the Giants.

When you pay the QB you have to do more with less. We also have a good OL so that takes away from the pass catchers. That said, I wish we'd draft better on offense.

I think some things have changed but not totally. I think for a QB to "arrive" in the NFL their legs have to be "in addition to" his passing accumen. A QB can only get by/cover up their lack of passing talent for so long with their legs. That said, I think that there are so many guys coming out of college who are good passers with wheels has increased the need for the "in addition to" part of their game.

Beane generally loved to hedge his draft picks by addressing them in FA first. That means I fully expect us to go in on DL and a other WR in the top 100

QB Justin Fields to the Jets as per Tom Pelisserro
Mango replied to RiotAct's topic in The Stadium Wall
I like Fields more than most. I don't think he is great, but he wasn't the problem in Chicago and probably should have been the starter in Pittsburgh at the end of the season. That said, I don't think he is a good fit for the Jets and the Jets are a really bad fit for him. He needs a much more steady and stable org. -
Knowing how this staff likes to on board rookies I think they want a vested vet penciled in at starter for some time to make them earn it. It's a good practice in premise and a great safety net. But it can also block us from cap savings by starting rookies with cheaper vet back ups. Which ends up raising the cost of the roster overall.

If you look at the modern landscape of the NFL with its (over)reliance on the QB and aren't willing to play in like 3 bad weather games per year with arguably the best QB in the entire league, then maybe winning Super Bowls isn't for you. Counterpoint, how many big time players do we draft and then lose in FA because of weather? Outside of Edmunds (who we walked away from), I can't think of another impact player that has not re-signed when given the opportunity (and equal money). You almost fooled me by not specifically talking about palmtrees, but I am on to you. This is Kevyn Adams burner account.
-
I generally hate the designated ST spots this team gets, but Mack Hollins is one of the very best ST players in the league. He was phenomenal last year.
-
Their likability is near identical these days too!
-
Strange that weather is listed as important but Pittsburgh and NE are still listed.

Between Knox, Coleman, Shakir, Kincaid, and Cook we have a lot of guys who are inside and inside/outside pass catchers. We don't have a true outside guy. If you are looking for a pure, big strong, outside receiver then DK Metcalf is the guy.

The Buffalo Sabres are a big part of the reason I'm heming and hawing over getting PSL's. @Richard Noggin points about subsidizing a billionaire is another big reason.

My quick $0.02 is that they know they need a QB. I don't think they are tanking, but they are in QB purgatory and pushing the cap. Without a QB they won't get over the hump. Like the Bills did with Allen, sell off whatever pieces you need in order to give you the ammo to move up in the draft. Similarly I think the same about Pittsburgh. Let this roster take one more bite at the apple. If they can't get across the finish line you sell anybody to get the capital to draft a QB. My hot take is I don't think you have to replace the staff. I think this requires a temporary change in FO philosophy but the staff can stay in place.

I don't understand what you are saying. Cook has not been a good pass blocker since college. Him not being out there on critical passing downs is because teams tend to send more pressure so we need a RB on the field who is adept at picking up the blitz. I fully understand why Cook is trying to get paid. I support him in his efforts. I also don't think the Bills should pay him $15M per. I think he is an $8-10M RB, but knowing that the market likes to "reset" I can feel comfortably stretching to $12M. WTF do you mean that $15M isn't Saquon Barkley money? Barkley signed a 3 year/$37M contract. $15M is more than Barkley gets paid, which is the entire point. I have no idea WTF you are talking about in regards to Von. His contract was a risk at his age that turned terrible with his second ACL injury. His initial restructure was stupid and didn't allow us to get out of it. This team would love to get out from under that deal. Piling on overvalued contracts with $3M here and $4M there is exactly how teams accidentally sink themselves. Once you pay the QB being efficient with your drafting an spending becomes paramount.
-
Cook not being able to be on the field in critical situations is a problem. He wasn't on the field at the end of the KC game for the exact reason @Doc Brown lays out. I am a huge Cook fan. I would like him re-signed. But $15M makes me uncomfortable. In general I hate that "the next man up" resets the market every year. When in reality no QB should be making more than the Allen, Mahomes, Burrow, or Lamar tier. To @Doc Brown point, for the same reasons I don't love paying Cook Barkley money when his game is a tier below. Yeah, I was just trying to find guys that were awesome pieces but not "The Guy". Maybe not the greatest example. Right, KC would get roasted. I was just talking from a Bills-centric position. If I were Beane my starting point would be prohibitively high that is a no. Even if there were some bizarro world where the Chiefs offered a 2nd I would still turn that down.
-
KC wasn't really relevant to they extent that they are now so I do think things are different. The fact that the KC pick turned into Mahomes is unfortunate. I would go as far as to say that without Allen a year later that it would be unforgivable. Picking up a QB that turned out to be Mahomes equal is the only saving grace. I lose zero sleep over the Worthy trade, albeit I winced a bit. But ultimately it is a couple of spots and I am not wowed by Worthy. I think flipping a couple picks around in the draft is a lot different than trading starting players that can have immediate impacts at a really high level is something totally different. If we are going to compare the Mahomes/Allen rivalry to Brady/Manning then you have to think that Wes Welker* to Indy or Reggie Wayne to NE was more or less off the table. This is that. *Welker signed in Denver as a FA
-
I will take a 6th round from the Jets before I send Cook to the Chiefs. This one is a bit less about Cooks value as it is Cooks value playing for KC against Buffalo. I would probably not taking anything less than 2 first round picks and even then that might not be enough. This is nothing like swapping a couple spots in the draft.

Dorion Williams youngest LB in league this year to lead in tackles
Mango replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall
It was strange that we didn't see him much down the stretch. He average like 65% of snaps on the season. Didn't play vs. Denver. 40% vs Baltimore. 6% vs KC. I know he injured his elbow and knee. But scrolling through the injury reports it looks like he missed maybe 2-3 days of practice all year long. Otherwise he was listed as a full participant. He also dressed for all 17 games. -
Who was the Bills next best edge rusher after Bruce?
Mango replied to GreggTX's topic in The Stadium Wall
Schobel only had double digit sacks 4 of 9 years and only once did he do it back to back. He was nice player on some not very great teams. Good dude, good teammate, I think his career seems a bit elevated because he was one of a few bright spots often rooting for a few players to succeed because the there wasn't much of a team to root for.
