AFC Championship Game Week Thread - Bills at Chiefs
appoo replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
so this year I have hope for 2 significant reasons. 1) For the first time since the 2021/22 post season, the Bills are healthy. 2) The chiefs biggest ref advantage isn't actually Patrick Mahomes. It's that their DBs are allowed to dry hump pass catches all over the field whenever they want. Well guess what *****, the bills can run the ball -
I'm sorry if you're willing to risk going for 4th in that situation then I wouldn't trust you to walk across the street on your own. Like I refuse to give credit to McDermott for taking the FG in this situation because it such a blatantly obvious thing to do You can't challenge a spot just for a spot. It hasw to be challenging if the player got into the EZ/1st down
-
If they just get healthy their OLine will get a lot better. Plus they have the 10th pick and 66M in cap space. That team in ripe for a quick turnaround if Ben Johnson doesn't have one of the worst schemes I've ever seen like the Bears did this year, and he can coach up Caleb to process faster and get rid of the ball faster

Can not challenge a spot unless it’s for a TD/first down -

He owned up to it bigtime. https://bsky.app/profile/cjzero.bsky.social/post/3lg5i5wlv6s22 (he was referring to himself in this video, not Mark Andrews) -
Personally, this Ravens matchup is my "McDermott Game."

Certainly more dynamic. What I should say is Allen never attempted take over the game, while Lamar was forced into that position - and mostly was succesful -
Yea this is what I meant when I kept saying the Bills were gassed and had no pass rushers half way through the final drive.

This is fair. That 3rd Bills drive which ended up in the long FG was the drive they could have done that, and chose not to. -

I think you can only challenge a spot on whether its a first down or not -

that's a fair point. I wonder if McDermott was going to go FG unless it was at like under half a yard. They got a BAD spot on that 2nd down and it 3rd and a long 2. I think what they were debating does tush push get you 1.5 yards? -
That's just homecrowd and refs

so post game there seems to be a lot of debate on the 2nd half offense. During the game - I hated it. Immediatly after the game - I hated it. Now? I think I kind of appreciate it. So hear me out. The first drive, the Ravens stuffed the offense. Bills even went misdirection on first and the Ravens brought so many they still for the stuff. They stopped the Bills and forced the punt, not really anytning conservative or bad about the playcalling. They respond with a FG right? At this point the Bills were pretty intentional abou their play calling. Play for first downs. Go 3-4 yards at a time. They had runs and quick throws, and challenged the Ravens to tackle in the open field. They did that. The Ravens get their best drive of the game, HAMMERING the Bills in the run. D never stoppe dthem on first. But you know what they DID do? stop the 2 pointer, and now it's 21 - 19. Again the Bills get the ball. Again they go small ball. This time, they inch their way to multiple first downs. They took 4.5 minutes, 10 plays to go 37 yards and then get a FG. The defense comes back, and this time they get the Ravens out of their run game. They forced them into a 4th down conversion. On the Andrews fumble it was 2nd and 11 after a first down stuff. If the Bills went aggressive their last drive, and go 3 and out. Are the Bills effective on D? That's the question right. Bills have the ball. It's off a turnover. It's an opportunity to get aggressive. Instead they take 5:12 to go 50 yards in 11 plays. Josh couldn't bust it in from 3rd and 2 on the 2, they kick the FG...and the Ravens only have 3:23 to score. They did that, and it left 1:33 left with Allen having 2 possessions, so even if Bmore ties it, you gotta believe Allen wins it. Folks the Bills had an 11 point lead going into the 2nd hald and limited the Ravens to just 4 possessions in the 2nd half. That is the very definition of complementary football, and controlling the clock so you always have the advantage at the end of the game So I didn;t at first love the 2nd half strategy...byt when I looked at them having just FOUR possesions, and the defense forcing a FG? That's just great game management. I'm now 100% complimentary of how the Bills played complementary football to win this game in the 2nd half.

nah as I keep thinking about it playing for first downs and time to keep the defense fresh was probably the right move. -

I think the Bills D won this game with 2 plays - the stop of the 2 point conversion. Forcing them into a FG in th 2nd half. -

Guess I'll keep saying it eveyr few pages but the Bills had no pass rushers available to them because all of them were utterly gassed. They tried to blitz twice and both times the blitzers just fell over at first contact. The Bills HAD to go deep zones because they had no other choice. The ravens forced them into that position. -

Once the Bills got the 21 - 10 lead the Bills game plan on offense change significantly to protecting their defense. -
Yiou're giving him credit for this? No coach in the sport should have gone for that

In game and post game I was thinking this, but right now? I’m wondering if it was intentional to run the clock out on the Ravens offense and win this game with the ball in Josh’s hands. Every play they ran was meant to keep the clock running and inch their way to first Downs’s maybe that’s just great strategy -

Ravens were flat out the most talented team in the league, especially on offense. Combining that line with Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson and Justice Hill with good WRs and an elite TE room? That’s a freakin cheat code. just really happy with how the bills D kept their heads in the game, never lost resilience and stayed opportunistic. Part of the reasons bills kept conservative on O was to eat clock and keep the pressure off the D. I thought that went too far with that but to some extent that worked to
