If he really wants out, he could re-structure that contract. He can't do anything about the 27M Signing bonus which he already has in his bank account, but is prorated over the next 4 years, that's going to stay on the Texans Cap no matter what. But his next roster bonus isn't till 2023, and he can re-negotiate his base pay to something far less significant. He'd be taking a ton less money to move on, but if he REALLY wanted to, he could facilitate a trade, to say Oakland who have weapons and a good coach.

Watson, Mahomes and Rodgers are the only QBs I'd even CONSIDER swapping Allen for, for the next 2-3 years (ignoring contract). That dude deserves a better football team around him

As a penn stater I’ve been watching Justin Fields since a junior in High School, when we began seriously recruiting him and he committed to us, and then again with Ohio State as he tortured Penn State the last 2 years. My scouting report on him was that he has elite accuracy to all points of the field, good straight line speed, above average arm strength, poor escapability, and doesn’t always manage the pocket well. this season, I have huge doubts about his ability to handle pressure. I say all this because prior to the last 2 games, I would have locked in Fields at the #2 for either the Jags or the Jets. Right now, I sort of lean towards the Jets finding a new GM/Coach combo, keeping Darnold, and then trading down and snag Jamar Chase out of LSU, and then taking another WR with their next pick. I would give Darnold another shot than going with Fields, Lance or Wilson

Yea wouldn't be at all surprised if that was true, even though I'd hesitate to go as far. What I do know if that this kids parents were both incredibly successful, ivy league educated, and went out of their way to ensure that Rosen was on a successful path to adulthood, whether football or otherwise, with a large world view. That may sound like a criticism from me, but it's actually the opposite - as a parent, I'd hope to be able to give my kids such a platform to succeed off of as well. But there's costs to that, as we've discussed here.

Somewhat different situation here as he was signed off from someone else’s practice squad rather than cut. Meaning the Bucs didn’t necessarily want him gone. Be interesting to see what Shannahan can do with him. He’s a really good coach who maximized what could be done with Jimmy GQ and Mullens. Rosen has arm talent and he’s highly intelligent. I question if he really loves football and is willing to put in the extra work like you see from Josh Allen. Was basically the word coming out of UCLA. His worldview is a lot bigger than football and he’s got a lot of public/social interests from going to a school like UCLA. That’s sort of what you like to see from a college kid, but as an NFL QB, you probably want to see him be more passion about being great at football than being passionate about world matters. That really might be what keeps him from making it in the league, on top of having no lower body athleticism. Not meant as a criticism either

Regarding Allen.... you extend him this offseason He’s trending towards 2nd highest paid player in the league behind Mahomes. He’s 24, shown an incredible work ethic, shown incredible talent, shown he can be hugely effective as a pure pocket passer, shown that he doesn’t need an elite OLine or even a running game to be effective, and finally he’s hugely charismatic and a leader that his teammates love. Mahomes is at $45M per year. Watson is at $39M per year, I think Josh is between those two guys at $42M. 8 years, 336M extension, starting in 2022 35M signing bonus. 4.5M cap hit Pay him about 20M each in year 1 and 2 of the extension. Then about 45M per year for the final 6 when the Cap is past pandemic impact. Would mean that Allen’s cap hit wouldnt go higher than 25M until 2025

This has nothing to do with political views, and everything to do with his approach and style and intentions. Listen, I have 3 political heroes in my adult life, and two of them are Republicans and the other a Democrat. There's 3 guys who I would symbolize as everything that's wrong with politcs in America, and 1 of them is a Democrat the other 2 Republicans. The first 3 are all human beings first, who empathized and saw others as human firsts. The "bad" 3 are guys who saw people as political weapons, emotions as something to be taken advantage of for your own power and ways to influece. Clay Travis and apparenty Foxworth absolutely fall into that latter category. This has NOTHING to do with politics and everything to do with "Hot Take to incite people" culture

Not your home, but society & culture through TV and your school. Think you're right about the DLine in 21, cutting Addison nets you 6M, cutting Butler (who's actually been playing a lot better) nets you 6.8M. Cutting Jefferson saves you 5M but 'd strongly consider keeping him, due to his versatility. He's a good pass rusher, and can also play a big DE for run D. Jerry Hughes, I think is a candidate for restructure + extend. He looks like he still has a few years in the tank, even at 32. The Bills have an out year after 220, and can save 7.5M by cutting him....but I'd rather them restructure and extend him to 2024. Give him a nice 5M signing bonus and a 2M salary on top of that and it keeps his cap hit under 4M, and you get to keep a pretty productive DE. At 32, I'm not sure he'd get a better deal than that in the open market.

Allen is getting to the point where he’s good enough to paper over holes on the offensive side. I wouldn’t invest in plus players at 4/5 players on the OLine. Allen is good enough where they might not need anything but an average running game to win football games. Feliciano, to me, is a luxury player. He’s an average pass pro but plus Run blocker. I wouldn’t resign him, but rather let Ford and Ryan Bates - both of whom played tackle at college so came into the league as pass protection lineman - have a shot at unseating Winters and Boetger at those guard spots and maybe signing a vet minimum, while also investing a mid round pick . So I’m the Bills, put money at LT/RT/C, but underpay at guard and RB. Defensively, that’s tough. You can get away with average DEs if you have elite athletes at linebacker, or with Klein, a quality blitzer. Hughes is going to be a huge question mark. There’s almost no way Addison comes back with his 10M cap hit, that’s gonna be Epenesa. Because of that I think Milano is integral to the success of the defense - if you’re going or underinvest at DE, then your backers need to make up for it with pressure and coverage

1 year deals makes the problems worse because of higher cap hits. Personally, I think you see longer deals with high signing bonuses. for example you can resign both Milano and Williams. say about 40M total for Milano, and another 40M for Williams. For Milano, you give him a 6 year contract, and a $25M signing bonus, that’s. 4.16M cap hit for the bonus, and if you pay yearly salary evenly it’s 2.5M a year. If 50% of yearly salary is gtd money, then you start with a dead cap number of 32M, going down about 5M a year. That’s a decent amount of risk to the organization, but a $6M cap hit is a bit of a steal for Williams, he’s 28, so I imagine that’s closer to a 4 year contract and that’s going to be a lot more expensive in terms of cap hit, no matter how much you concert to a signing bonus. But possible I guess. Teams are going to have to risk long term deals. Short term deals are just too cap heavy

Allen is having to play at an elite level because teams don’t have to respect the Bills deep game right now. This offense badly misses Smoke, and with him the Bills probably put that game away in the first half. Don't believe the Bills can pay him market value. Over 6 years he got paid 12M, so he's not going to give the Bills a discount ,he'll have earned his first big contract. You're looking at 4 years, 8M+ a year + 9M bonus ~14M
