What year you became a Bills fan and Two Bills Drive camaraderie
cwater10 replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
1) Fan since 1966 2) First Bills memory is a very non descriptive mental image of watching Jets at War Memorial on miserable snowy muddy day. I remember a Jets running back crashing into the snow fence. Strange what sticks from so many years ago. 3) Favorite memory: Oh my so many, so many! OJ breaking 2000 yards, 1980 opener vs Dolphins, 1980 Rams game with the curtain call, 1983 first road game was Bills getting first win in Miami (OT) since the 60's and Joe Ferguson had career day in what was otherwise known as Marino's first start, 51-3, and so many more. But really have to say that my truly favorite and most treasured memories are years of watching games with loved ones and friends who have since passed on. I get choked up watching today's Bills and thinking of them. I can feel the hugs and high fives that never got to happen. 4) It feels like I'm getting a bit long of tooth for favorite players, but bloody hell, how do you not love Josh? Along the way, have really enjoyed Robert James, Ahmad Rashad, Bob Chandler, OJ, Reggie McKenzie, Fergy, Butler, Haslett, and some really random sorts like Jamie Mueller, Sam Gash, Tony Greene, Daryl Irvin and so many more. 5) User name is a twist on a location and what I was looking at when I joined this site and when that was. It was 2010 and I was looking out of my office at the beautiful waters of Clearwater Beach. Fun topic. Thanks! -
This should be fun when Pitt drafts Ben's replacement this spring. Can a linebacker coach pull a rookie QB when things don't go well? Asking for a QB prospect friend...

Is this code for "Hey Bob, WTF with the middle of the field being as open as the Great Plains?"

Keyshawn Johnson downplays Mac Jones hype: ‘He ain’t Josh Allen’
cwater10 replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
Don't do Fergy like that. Joe Ferguson, a.k.a. "The Arkansas Rifle" had "100 times" the arm strength of Mac Jones. Seriously, Fergy actually had a tremendous arm and after his rookie season, primarily spent handing off to O.J., became one of the better passers in the NFL. He had his best years in the late 70's and early 80's after O.J. was traded. -

Ahhh. Celtics PTSD just jumped out at me with flashes of JoJo White standing by himself at the free throw line in The Aud. That was my Braves "no goal" moment. Cheers! Loved that Braves team. -
Glass houses Sean... Sean Peyton's playoff record since McDermott was hired in Buffalo is 3-4, with one unsuccessful trip to conference championship game, same as McDermott. And Peyton had one the all time greats at QB for 4 of those years while McDermott worked with Tyrod Taylor and the first two "training wheels" seasons of Josh. Oh yeah, Peyton also has on his resume, a divisional round meltdown of equal measure to 13 seconds against Minnesota in 2018, when his D inexplicably left the deep sideline free for Diggs to author the "Minneapolis Miracle". How many people demanded his firing after that game?

Anybody ever get asked a preposterous question during a job interview? Don't rule out the mention of Daboll's unhappiness just to gauge Flores' reaction. Flores' answer to that question could provide a wealth of information, not just about Flores' character and views on offense etc... but also would be insightful to an exec considering offering the position to Daboll in the coming days. Even if true, who knows what the nature of that question really was or if there was any validity to the hearsay.

Josh Allen should change his jersey number

I like 17. But if he ever goes near 11, just pack up the moving vans. That number has serious issues. Even once glorious Bills beginnings (Norwood, Bledsoe) have wound up in ruins. What was Beasely thinking changing TO 11? -Norwood (started the curse) -Rob Johnson -Bledsoe -Roscoe Parrish -T.J. Graham -Zay Jones (Bloody naked Jesus fighting could only come from a curse) -Cole Beasley (still hanging in there, but he is the one current Bill that needs an immediate number change). Get that 10 back on Cole before you cause some real damage. -
Jacksonville will need to REALLY expand their travel budget!

While the debate about open air or domed planet drags on, The Bills will face Moscow Patriots in the opener.

Let's play Jeopardy... What is a verb that is formed from the word “catastrophe”, meaning complete disaster. When someone catastrophises they think or anticipate that an event in their life is a complete disaster with devastating consequences. In reality, this is rarely the case. What is catastrophising? -
Damn... Thread Killer! So much for bringing some cheer to the board... But for me, the best moment was Tommy Doyle TD! Eff Ewe Billy Boy!

Do you really want a rookie Offensive Coordinator ?
cwater10 replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
True, but the new guy will remote into the car's computer and do what he does from Maui while the old guy is chasing his hangover with a few bloody Marys and checking the manual for a couple of days, while yelling at his ex-wife to get off the phone and let him get his work done... Kidding aside, I am OK with Dorsey, but also intrigued by fresh set of eyes. It's a roll of the dice either way. They mad a good "out of nowhere" hire with Daboll. I'm gonna trust them to do it again. -

If I had a revolutionary new Tesla, I might hire a guy that is used to working on that Tesla over the guy that's been working on Chylsler LeBarons for a few decades. -
I love some of you… but I hate this site right now

Here is what I can't wrap my head around. If all of the voices lamenting that this coaching staff is the albatross that kept us from the promised land, then why are those same voices so certain that the football red seas would have just parted for us and allowed this same coaching staff to guide us through the next two games unscathed to that promised land. We were not entitled to win the Super Bowl, even if we had won this game. There were two VERY tough games ahead. The takeaway from 13 seconds, from Jacksonville, is that nothing in the NFL is a given. Give your psyche a break and stop assuming that we were entitled to the Super Bowl had we won. We were far from that. "Two more rivers to cross" as Marv used to say. And those were not little puddles to jump. 41 years ago, I and many here felt the same crushing emotion when we felt that Joe Ferguson's ankle and a defensive blown coverage cost us our shot at what would have become a AFCCG home game against the wild card Raiders (who went on to win the Super Bowl against all odds). Nobody believed that Raiders team was capable of beating the all powerful Air Coryell Chargers. We did however like our chances of hosting them with our #1 defense. But The Raiders did beat those Chargers, and then they won the Super Bowl. It was only afterwards that I started to question the certainty that I felt that we would have beaten those wild card Raiders and rolled to a Super Bowl win against The Eagles who had upset might Dallas to get to Super Bowl XV. And then the Eagles, whom we all assumed that The Bills would easily handle in The Super Bowl, came in to Buffalo early the following season on a Thursday night and rolled The Bills. The Raiders were apparently the team of destiny, the team on a roll that I had assumed The Bills to be. Presumed wins are not real. We were not 13 seconds from winning THIS Super Bowl any more that we were a fractured ankle and a blown defensive assignment away from winning THAT Super Bowl. As Bill Parcells used to say, "you are who your record says you are". We lost in the divisional round. I hear all this chatter about how hard it is to get "back" to the Super Bowl. Really? You have to get there in order to get back. We have not been there yet for a reason an it's not all coaching. In mid season, it was obvious that this team was good, but flawed. The roster needs some tweaks. During the season, they patched some holes and got on a nice run behind a great QB. And say what you will about this coaching staff, but they do seem to have that intangible of getting their teams to peak and maximize their ability during the stretch run. I can't help but be optimistic about where that takes us in the near future. -
What are the top three worst losses in franchise history?
cwater10 replied to VaMilBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Wide Right 13 Seconds 1980 Ron Smith Chargers (That crushed me. Truly believe that would be a Lombardi) MCM OK, that's four... But these are The Bills and I've been a fan for 50 years. Limiting to four felt like a nice kind thing to do for myself. Just for fun and to see who's paying attention, does the name Don Nottingham bring down any night terrors for anyone out there? -
Here is video of his minutes at the podium after the game. Several times he did reference not taking the field as the same unit ever again, but I didn't necessarily take that as a personal declaration of departure as much as acknowledgement of the the reality of roster turnover every year in the NFL. I believe he has in his heart, Beasley, Sanders, Daboll etc... They are a very close group and he knows there will be turnover, perhaps including himself.

Damn... I'm in my 60's and feeling every year of it with this thread. How about a Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young reunion, a Bills win, and then you can all just send me off to the memory care center a happy man.

Giants/Schoen interview Daboll for HC
cwater10 replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
I so much agree with this. I think the league needs to address this with more consideration given to playoff teams. I saw this quote from Brady (still detest him, but credit where due) here in Florida last night and it just made me wince a little bit thinking of Daboll and Frazier: “I don’t do anything extra this week,” Brady said. “I just want to do football. That’s all I want to do, prepare and get ready. That’s how we should all approach it. This isn’t the time for the trips to the movie theaters. This is the time to lock in on football. This is all we have, three days left and then we’ve got to earn more. Look at it like that, everything, you can put off until the end of the year, and we hope the end of the year isn’t Sunday. But you have to earn it.” Brady is totally locked in, and preparing with singularity of purpose. I love our guys Frazier and Daboll and support their quest to advance their careers, but I can't shake the notion that these opportunities are, by definition, oppositional to "singularity of purpose". https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2022/01/20/tom-brady-we-should-all-approach-this-week-as-nothing-but-football/ -
