"Son," she said, "have I got a little story for you What you thought was your daddy was nothing but a While you were sitting home alone at age thirteen Your real daddy was dying Sorry you didn't see him, but I'm glad we talked" Oh, I, oh I'm still alive Hey, I, oh I'm still alive Hey, I, oh I'm still alive Hey, oh

I can't control this flesh and blood That's wrapped around my bones It moves beneath me like a river Into the great unknown I stepped onto the moving stairs Before I could tie my shoes Pried a harp out the fingers of a renegade Who lived and died the blues And his promise made was never clear It just carved itself in me All I saw was frost inside my head On the night he said to me Someday we live like horses Free rein from your old iron fences There's more ways than one to regain your senses Break out the stalls and we'll live like horses

Soon oh soon the light Pass within and soothe this endless night And wait here for you Our reason to be here Soon oh soon the time All we move to gain will reach and calm Our heart is open Our reason to be here Long ago, set into rhyme Soon oh soon the light Ours to shape for all time, ours the right The sun will lead us Our reason to be here

There's a club if you'd like to go You could meet somebody who really loves you So you go and you stand on your own And you leave on your own And you go home and you cry And you want to die When you say it's gonna happen now When exactly do you mean? See I've already waited too long And all my hope is gone

And I could have done so many things, baby If I could only stop my mind From wondering what I left behind And from worrying about this wasted time The love has come and gone The years keep rushing on I remember what you told me Before you went out on your own Sometimes to keep it together You got to leave it alone So you can get on with your search, baby And I can get on with mine Maybe someday we will find That it wasn't really wasted time

Many times I've been alone And many times I've cried Anyway, you'll never know The many ways I've tried And still they lead me back To the long and winding road You left me standing here A long, long time ago Don't leave me waiting here Lead me to your door

I'm going to rent myself a house In the shade of the freeway Gonna pack my lunch in the morning And go to work each day And when the evening rolls around I'll go on home and lay my body down And when the morning light comes streaming in I'll get up and do it again, Amen Say it again, Amen I want to know what became of the changes We waited for love to bring Were they only the fitful dreams Of some greater awakening?

I think his point is that where as most teams have a "front 7", we don't. We have a front 6 which at times like yesterday turns out to be a bad match up. Interesting to me that we hear endlessly from the offensive players and staff how they put such value in being "multiple", with infinite variations and personnel combinations. Why is that not of value to the defense?

I dream of rain I dream of gardens in the desert sand I wake in vain I dream of love as time runs through my hand I dream of fire These dreams that tie two hearts that will never die Near the flames The shadows play in the shape of the man's desire This desert rose Whose shadow bears the secret promise This desert flower No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

Hold me and make it the truth That when all is lost, there'll be you 'Cause to the universe, I don't mean a thing And there's just one word I still believe And it's love

And I turned 21 in prison, doing life without parole No one could steer me right but mama tried, mama tried Mama tried to raise me better but her pleading, I denied That leaves only me to blame 'cause mama tried

So make us all laugh, make us all cry Make us all give, make us all try Give us the secret show us the lie We'll strike up the music and light up the sky Oh, if I was a lion Well I could be the king of all the plain Oh, and if I was an eagle Well maybe I could fly above the rain Fly above the pain But I know I'm only fooling

Day after day, alone on a hill The man with the foolish grin Is keeping perfectly still But nobody wants to know him They can see that he's just a fool And he never gives an answer

My concern with resigning Poyer despite his high level of performance WHEN available is that his limited availability this year may be a harbinger of the things to come, the things that come with NFL players of advancing age. At an age when most players bodies begin to betray them, this is Poyer's 4th or 5th separate injury this year. Is this just what life with a aging Poyer will look like going forward? Will Beane pay big bucks for more years of that? Be it Benford, a trade or a draft choice, I suspect Beane will be diligent in pursuit of an answer with that in mind.
