The County has just taken the first step down the slippery slope to losing the Bills. -
Does "I plea the 5th" = "I took steroids"
obie_wan replied to stevestojan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
the actual target is major league baseball intself. MLB is trying to stop Congress from imposing its own rules control the use of performance enhancing drugs- which are then used all the way down to the high school level. Unfortunately, MLB has shot itself in the foot by lying directly to Congress about the terms of its new policy and the little detail that the testing program is still only in draft form and has not been signed by the league of players. MLB sold Congress on the fact that the policy would be effective because players would be fearful of testig positive and then being suspended and identifed to the world as cheaters. MLB forget to tell Congress that they added a little clause that gives the commissioner, (that bastion of leadership-Bud Selig) the discretion to issue $10,000 fines- instead of public suspensions. The whole program is a farce designed to allow MLB to protect any name player who is stupid enough to get caught. -
FA OL we havent mentioned in a while

yeah- Travis' ability to pick up the blitz is testament to that statement. -
to be a "signing" bonus, the player needs to "sign up" for additional time on his contract.
-
they are able to use their "accounting trickery" of not amortizing bonuses because they have an enormous amount of cap space since they have paid their players for many years. If the cap is 60 mil and they only spend 45 mil, then they have losts of cap space. The only thing creative the Vikes have done is to utilize some unlikely to earned bonus designations to carry forward the excess to future years.

Two legislators ask Bills to forego payment

just hope that you never have to sell. once you buy that affordable home in WNY that it will only go down in value in the future. -
Economic Impact of the Bills on Erie County?
obie_wan replied to CJPearl2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
WNY is already dying a slow and painful death. If the Bills leave, the area will be put out of its misery very quickly. The area will never recover from emotional loss caused by the Bills leaving. -
The Vikings have cap room due to the very simple fact that Red McCombs is a cheap bastard and has been positioning to sell the team for a few years. He has spent money no-where near the cap on players (or coaches-for that matter) in order to make the finances as entircing as possible to a new owner - cap room to spend with no dead money in the future) Their defense has been horrible for years and they have not spent the money to improve it. That would go over real well in Buffalo. Teflon Tom was able to use up the Bills cap room by giving the excess to Drew last year.

a roster bonus is not guaranteed and does not get amortized. Player earns it when he makes the roster.
-
any re-structuring that turns base salary into signing bonus will by defintion require that an additional year be added to the contract (otherwise there is no term to which the signing bonus can be attributed)

Absolutely incorrect. The Draft need to be THE most important source of building a team because the costs paid to any rookie are lower than what it would cost to acquire similar production in free agency or through trade. Unfortunately, this has not been the case for the Bills. The problem with Teflon Tom is that the actual produciton of his draft picks for the most part has not matched his evaluation and their slotted salaries. The problem is not the draft as a tool, it is Teflon Tom's inability to use it to obtain quality players. He did take a chance on Willis - but the evaluation of talent was not the issue with him. Mike Williams, Josh Reed, Ryan Denney, most draft picks after round 3, - all have produced significantly worse than projected. How many mid and low round picks have actually contributed at all? Compare to NE who has OL from the mid-rounds and a certain QB from round 6 starting and producing at high levels. Their top picks, like Seymour and Wilfork are a force on the field. The only reason the draft is not more important to the Bills in acquiring talent is that our front office has difficulty identifying the corrrect players to pick.

He's big, fat and slow - just like our current RT. and probably wants to be overpaid as well. sounds like a good fit. -
The Post OFfice is horribly managed. There is a reason why employees go postal. Take the other job and get experience in your field. When the county collapses, you can move to a place with real jobs and get employment in your chosen field.
-
yeah - TD drove that bus right over the cliff when he extended Drew last year to ride shot gun for him (too bad he couldn't run the shotgun).
-
Bledsoe will do as he always does- play well for a few games against inferior defenses ( and there are more of those in the NFC). But he will also meltdown at the worst time in the big games, especially on the road. Gregg Williams will have a field day against Dallas. Drew will do more than any other single factor to force Parcells into retirement.

Bills making a mistake looking at Patriots
obie_wan replied to seq004's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pats acquired extra picks and good talent by dealing from a postion of strength. They determined Drew was a turd, but convinced Teflon Tom that he was an upgrade and turned a liability into a #1 pick. Because they had an extra #1, they could afford to deal one to the Ravens for a bundle of additional picks. Extra picks allowed them to convert a 2nd rounder into a Pro Bowl RB, instead of using that pick on an underperforming WR. With a stable base in -place, Pats could afford to sit at #23 last year and grab the best DT in the draft in Wilfork. Pats pay for production and are not blinded by big names. If players are not smart enough to figure out that the program wins SBs (Milloy), then they are probably not smart enouogh to execute on the field either and are not sought by the PATs. -
if the welfare and entitlement programs in NY are cut back, how are the Democrats going to be able to buy enough votes to stay in office? Little chance of change at the state level or Fed level when NY is represented by a hack Arkansas attonery.
-
So if Parcells was such a smart guy- why did he run his playoff QB, Quincy Carter, out of town and replace him with the 42 year old Vinnie and bring in the broken down Eddie George for $3mil / yr and big name, no production Marcellus Wiley- has beens who led the Boys to a big 6 win season?

I hear pit-bulls are great dogs, too.

like maybe he is dumb as a door knob?

all this optimism and no mention of our future starting LT - Jason Peters -
He's desperately bringing in has beens to try to save his reputation. It's pretty clear that he rode Belichek and his staff for many years.
-
hey - it worked for Drew afer 12 years Especially since he spent so much time in the off-season correcting those flaws

The Free Buffalo campaign sounded good. Read his grand plan, though, and there is very little hope of this group accomplishing anything to help Buffalo in the foreseeable future. Attempting to turn the political landscape at the national, state and local levels upside down may be noble, but is just a bit unrealistic. but he got his name out there, so he probably accomplished one his own objectives.
