Contrary to popular opinion, Marv basically had final say on the draft while Butler was the GM. Although the personnel decisions were basically made by committee, Butler was essentially the guy who identified teh talent but Marv had final say on whether the talent fit with his needs. During this same time, the Bills made ZERO draft day trades, preferring to let the draft come to them so they could utilize their draft board as laid out. Levy is conservative by nature and has no need to make the flashy deal like TD. Highly unlikely that Bills pursue any draft day trades. Only way a trade happens is if someone makes the Bills an incredible deal AND the Bills are basically still guaranteed of getting a targetted player at teh new spot.

League's Lying/Denial Making it Worse
obie_wan replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The league needs to enter the technology age with its on field product. Since the playing fields are fixed, it would be a relatively simple task to add sensors and or cameras on the sidelines and goalline to offer definitive angles of view which the officials a should have access to when makeing game turning calls. Replay should be expanded to allow for the review of all plays. If you are going to limit the number of plays that can be challenged, why not let them review everything. Replay officials in the booth upstairs shojld be part of the crew and should have the ability to question and review any call on the field at any time and should have input into calls based on their perspective. The refs already have impromptu meetings on the field to discuss certain calls. What's the big deal about giving them more objective evidence to make a call? -
League's Lying/Denial Making it Worse

Well Seattle did in fact " cash in" on a direct TD that was disallowed and play to the 1 that would have provably been a TD> It's tough to score against one of teh best defenses in the league and Seattle had 2 scores wiped out by bullsh*t calls. Not to mention that 2 of the Steelers TD drives were heavily aided by favorable calls. The "champions will overcome" argument is a copout in this game. The calls did not even out. But maybe sometime in next year's pre-season games, Seattle will get a few gift calls to even things up. -
probably wouldn't go for the "fix"

A proposed rule change for instant replay

since entertainment is your objective, the fans should be able to vote and have their voices heard, just like American Idol. The ref would get 1 vote, the fans 1 vote, and a rotating celebrity judge would get 1 vote. -

What if the Bills drafted Rothlisberger?

pittsburgh would not have drafted JP in the 1st round- he was only worthy of that high aa pick by the evil genius -

Can't believe Houston would not have swapped 1sts and taken our 2nd and a #5 to move down 3 spots. TD could have thrown in next years #1 instead of the 2 which would have been comparable to teh JP trade. Teflon Tom was just smarter than everyone because JP was the best QB in the draft. He wanted the glory for his team of molding an unprepared turd into an NFL QB. No need to move up for the better prepared QB. -
Moon selected HOF, or Black QB selected HOF

Race played no part in Moon's election just like the refs played no part in Seattle's loss in the Super Bowl. -

so Vinnie is first ballot Hall of Famer? -
there actually was one bad call. Seattle completed a pass inside the 20, teh WR took 3 steps and the fumbled and Pitts would have recovered inside the 20 with a chance to run it back. The refs ruled it incomplete. No big loss for Pitts since Seattle punted into end zone on the next play.

DID ATROCIOUS OFFICIATING TARNISH STEELER VICTORY?
obie_wan replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The worst call was the phantom holding call on Seattle on the pass to the 1 yard line. The interferece call was at least in plain site, although a very ticky tack call. -
if they had the 2 TDs that were taken away by bad calls and Pitts did not have thhe gift Big Ben TD, then time mgmt would not have mattered. If they're going to fix games, they should be a little less obvious.

Cutler didn't get a lot of publicity during the year because he did not have a hype machine at Vanderbilt. -

John Lynch had a tremendous pass rush which pressured QBs so they had limited time to exploit him deep. not quite the same DL in Buffalo -
I wouldn't be relying on an over-weight, injury prone 39 year old to anchor my defense.

The other likely outcome is that other teams will be doing the same thing, so the the free agent pool of quality players will be probably be extremely small. So most of the progress at improving the OL or DL will most likely have to come from the draft (or vast improvement of internal talent through better coaching). No wonder why the Dollphins and REdskins are breaking the bank on coaches.

BAsed on the current status of the CBA negotiations, there is a very strong incentive for the Bills to re-do both Wiliams and Moulds contracts for 2006. Since the CBA has not been extended, 2007 becomes an uncapped year and the entire unamortized signing bonus for a player cut in 2006 will be recognized immediately, even if cut after June Thus, it may make more sense for the Bills to push as much unamortized money into the future when they may be able to cut both players in 2007 when they may be able to totally avoid any cap hit at all. (Gene Upshaw says the Union's position is that it won't accept a salary cap)

Our top options for the 2006 NFL Draft
obie_wan replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
yeah- just like Fat Mike he played RT at USC because he wasn't good enough to play LT. The top linemen play the left side because most of the premiere pass rushers come from that side. Teams tend to run to their right where the larger less mobile players can excel at run blocking. Contracry to the crap dispensed by the media, talent determines where the tackles play, not from which side the QB throws. -
