  1. Ruben was drafted as a LT. They moved him to G to get him in the lineup immeditely.
  2. Bills need to be bringing those gems in from the CFL
  3. take it to the bank. unless the Bills put a contignent deal in place before the draft, no way does Marv approve a knee jerk trade in his 15 minutes on the clock.
  4. the fact that he already weighed over 375 pounds probably wasn't a red flag that he might have a weight problem.
  5. but he wasn't the BPA. That would have been McKinney who actually played a position of more need (LT) that could actually justify the cap hit. You don't commit $40 mil to a RT with bad footwork.
  6. yeah- that Vic is a top rate talent evaluator. Vic just puts a spin on what people tell him- more likely you like Vic's opinion because he used to write atrticles about the Bills-
  7. 10 WRs and they're all really really good!! No need to be upsetting the "team building" by drafting talented players
  8. the reason the Dolphins passed on Brees is that the injury was much worse than reported. They gave up a 2nd round pick for a guy that has spaghetti for his knee ligaments and may miss the entire season (at best mid Nov) That should tell you something.
  9. nothing like a little pre-draft smoekscreen to create some trade interest
  10. one year for which he will sit on the sidelines with his injury. pretty good investment for a guy destined to not suit up suit all season long. even better plan to bring in a rookie to start while the injured vet heals
  11. if Ricky wins his appeal, one of those picks will go to the Dolphins.
  12. Houston could really make things interesting if they can't come to contract terms with Bush before the draft. From a business standpoint, they really need to sign their guy or trade the pick. They don't want to be the team breaking new ground on rookie contracts under the new CBA.
  13. Playmakers have speed. The Bills will be selecting speed. Ngata may move well for a big man ( where have I heard that before?) but oversize guys tend to grow fat and lose what speed they have. scratch Ngata Not to mention injury concerns also affect speed. scratch Bunkley Huff is the likely choice. Also look for any OL they draft, includng the guards to have good footwork to pull on sweeps. They will not draft a Bennie Anderson type mauler. It's too easy for a DC to exploit a slow OL with bad mobility.
  14. WRONG Marv pretty much ran the draft when Butler was GM. You can get a feel for his tendencies from that period. He is a conservative guy and his stated that he prefers to let the draft come to him and stick to his draft board. Marv is not a wheeler dealer like Jimmy Johnson was. He also likes DBs as early round picks because he sees them as a lesser risk due to their ability to be immediately productive in nickle sets and special teams even if they aren't ready to start. Based on his general philosophy, my guess is the only way he makes a trade on draft day is if the framework is put together prior to the draft and they move only far enough so he still gets one of the players targeted at the #8 spot. Highly doubt he makes a knee jerk trade on draft day from an unsolicited phone call.
  15. The Bills took Ronnie Harmon in the 1st round a while back who was teh proto-typical 3rd down back. Good thing they wised up and drafted Thurman (in the 2nd round though)
  16. or they may package their 1st a 2nd and a 3rd to move up and get the one impact player they feel they need and reduce their overall cap hit.
  17. The fallacy comes from the same book of wisdom containing this nugget: "A RT who plays in front of a left handed QB in college can easily switch to LT in the NFL solely because he protected said QB's blind side."
  18. Although traditoinal safeties don't get drafted in the top 10, CBs do. Huff is not a pure safety. He is good enough to play corner. He provides the defense with an answer to the elite TE like Henry Jones did. He can also provide coverage on slot receivers from the safety spot out of the base defense. And in Marv's world, DBs are the one position that provide immediate productions from nickle formations and special teams, if he's not good enough to start (which is unlikely).
  19. except that NO is doing the same thing and trying to move down. If Houston wants to trade the pick, they better do it before draft. If they haven't traded the pick or signed their choice, they will get zero production from the pick since his agent will hold him out far into camp to set the new standards under the new CBA.
  20. GREAT - and who plays QB in 2006 while Brees is still out. probably the highly paid, high draft pick. The Saints just blew $10 mil for no reason.
  21. good plan- except that Brown has never played a down at LT in his life and the Saints would be looking at the best LT prospect in a few years. but its the Saints - so they will probably take a QB to start as a rookie while Brees recovers from injury.
  22. Other than being able to run fast, Hester has no football skills. He is an absolutely horrible CB.
  23. a piss poor one for the talent they had
  24. Super Mario will be there at #4. Saints need Brick and can't drop past the Jets to get him. no need for the Jets to move up
  25. YEAH- and Mike Mamula can run really fast for a DL- but he can't tackle anyone and is out of football. same with Joey H. Had a great senior bowl camp which vaulted him from 2nd round to #3. 3 years of tapes didn't lie.
