  1. unless someone takes him 1 pick before you do- then you have zero value for a player you had regarded highly
  2. you conveniently don't mention Detroit or Rams as likely spots for Whitner- both teams known to be looking for secondary help. Bunkley would have been Philly's selection at #8 or at #14 if we traded with Denver. Not available to Bills in either case. Allen is projected 3rd rounder with severe hip injury - not a top cover guy and not sure fire starter Hill is a corner- not immediate starter for Bills. None of your options accomplish the bills objective of getting a starter. keep trying. The next guy that probably would have started is the one we took at #26.
  3. SPEED Milloy is a liability in coverage, not to mention an injury waiting to happen He would have made it impossible to run the cover 2 as they want because they couldn't leave him in one on one coverage. Vincent at least undeerstands how to cover from his time as a SB- although he has lost a step-he is not a complete liability
  4. real nice kid- when to my kid's high school and he was in town last week talking with them
  5. Dwight Freeney
  6. well - no - we couldn't have gotten a starting safety if Whitner would have been taken by Detroit, Rams, Browns or Ravens before our pick at #14 or 15 after a trade down. And we sure wouldn't have gotten a player immediately capable of starting with that extra 3rd rounder.
  7. Other than Brick, none of the rookie OL in this draft can be counted on to start in 2006
  8. Here's a thought. What if they don;t always line up on the nose but put both DTs on the Gs and let them shoot the gaps. Make the C guess which side to help on. Sure seemed that;s what teams have beeen doing that to the Bills for the last few years. Attack the offense
  9. Gilles is fat and slow- the opposite of what the new look Bills are all about. This year's OL will look better because they will pull and trap and not be confined to running in the middle of the field.
  10. We may already have OL with potential to start already on the team in the form of Geisinger and Preston and Peters.
  11. McCargo would have gone to the Giants or the Colts in the 1st and any number of teams before the Bills in the 2nd.
  12. These speedy DBs will be blitzing from all over the field. That's why you need safeties that can cover.
  13. I guess our new DC wasn't too impressed with the safety play from last year
  14. is this coverage a joke or what?
  15. no way Arizona trades up with both QBs on teh board and Detroit unlikely to take one. Whitner would have gone to Detroit or Rams. If Bills moved to #14 or #15, who should they have taken at that spot? Ngata, Bunkley, Whitner would have been gone and Justice was vastly overrated. Nothing of need really fit at that point.
  16. If you wanted a QB that high, take Cutler. Leinart is soft and can't throw in the wind due because he doesn't throw a tight spiral. Leinart is the left handed reincarnation of Rob Johnson.
  17. fat and slow will not be the pick
  18. value is in the DTs
  19. Whitner would have gone to Detroit at #9 or Rams at #11, both before the #14 or #15 spots available in alleged trade downs. Bunkley, Ngata and Whitner would all have been gone after the trade down. Justice was there, but obviously no team had him rated as a 1st rounder. Fans would have been happy but in reality that would have been a horrible value pick. So who should the bills have selected after a trade down?
  20. what about a DT to play the nose
  21. slow, fat guys need not apply. SPEED is key
  22. As you note, the other safety prospects were not viable candidates at all, since they are too slow to cover WRs or TE. The defense needs a cover safety who can hit in order to implement the blitz packages and not be forced to take LBs off the field when an offense goes to a 3 WR set.
  23. you are correct. It is always better to take the consensus pick even though that player has a good chance of busting from being overwight, (Mike Williams) a workout warrior (Mamula) instead of a player with great skills who will greatly improve your team. Posters are hung up on the mock draftnicks who maintain that Whitner went too early. However, if in reality Whitner would have been drafted by either Detroit or the Rams as the Bills expected, then the bills would have lost out by trading down and did not take him too soon. This is especially true since there was no other safety prospect that they were comfortable with starting immediately and being an impact player.
  24. TOO FAT AND SLOW - not a chance
