I think the Justice example is exactly what he is saying. If you need a LT, don't reach for the next available even though he plays RT and try to make him into a LT because that is your need.

The Giants may have been influenced by the media backlash against the Bills. Probably against their better judgement, they did not "reach" for the key DT they needed at #25. They traded down to #32 get better value. Unfortunately, they got screwed because the Bills moved up and took McCargo and the Giants were left with a gaping hole at DT. They ended up taking the plumetting Kiawanka at DE. So the experts were happy that the Giants got good "value" but the Giants coaches have got be pissed since the front office failed to get the top priority DT.

I agree that coaches should go for it far more often than they do. It puts a long more pressure on the defense to stop a team 4 downs in a row. It is a huge emotional drain to stop a team on 3rd down and then see that they are challenging your D again on 4th down.

Marv couldn't identify talent if it bit him in the butt. What Marv does very well, though, is listen to his scouts about talent and coordiate with the coaches as to what talent will fit the schemes to be run on the field. Marv did end up drafting players with a "football temperment" (as opposed to soft, pretty boys) to fill specific needs in a specific scheme. We shall see if they can actually play, but I think the bust level is fairly low with this draft class.

Milloy make the big hit every so often. However, he is an absolute liability in coverage. The couldn't even think about running a cover 2 with him on the field.

so why weren't all the teams desperate for a QB knocking themselves out to trade into the top 10 to draft him? Denver was willing to move up, but to draft Cutler- not Leinart. The answer is that the NFL scouts had Leinart rated considerably lower than the media experts. Bills had him as a 2nd rounder.

The alleged trade partners were Philly (#14), Denver(#15) and Minnesota (#17). Whitner would have gone to Detroit, Rams or Ravens. Philly would have taken Bunkely and Ngata was gone. Justice was highly overrated. RBs, LBs, WRs and CBs were available- Any player picked after a trade down would not start for the Bills this year - and more importantly would not fill the biggest needs on the team (S, OT,DT) So who should they have picked after mmoving down?

The fact that 3 WR sets and pass catching TEs is becoming more the norm highlights why it is essential that your safeties have speed and coverage skills- thus the premium the Bills placed on Dante Whitner. The Bills D will be able to dictate to the offense because they won't be forced to take LBs out of the game everytime a team goes with 3 WRs.

More pertinent is that Leinart will struggle throwing in the wind because he has less than ideal arm strength and more importantly does not throw a tight spiral. There is a reason 9 teams passed on him.

The OL production will be much better because our OC will actually try to run outside the tacklers, instead of totally ignoring everything but up the middle. Bills will do much more pulling and trapping. Bennie will be watching from the bench.

not true. Players cut after June 1 still have their unamortized signing bonus deferred to next year. The only change is that teams can now elect to apply the rule to 2 players that are cut before June 1.
