  1. Thurman's lack of TDs is mostly due to stupid coaching. He should have had most of those 14 TDs per year Robb Riddick got on 1 yard leaps.
  2. hard to run a secondary when your safeties can't cover anyone. could be that he blitzed Milloy all the time because he was a liability doing anything else. Lack of safety help also could be why he had the CB play so far off of the line. Based on the draft, seems Marv and Jauron weren't too impressed with the defensive backfield either.
  3. OJ was arguably the best runnig back -ever. His stats would have been mind boggling, except that another in the long line of incompetant head coaches chose to use him as a decoy his first few years. He was so good that he forced the league to change how they defended him. His ability to turn the corner led to the development of the 3-4 defense to contain the sweeps. Thurman may have fit better in the k-gun, but OJ was the better individual back.
  4. To apply a real world example- The Heat had great chemistry in the playoffs. But there is no way they win the title without the super talent of Wade.
  5. Revisionist history is always fun. In conjunction with the no-huddle, the OL got tremendous production. The OL was in great condition and was able to exploit defenses with their superior conditioning and unique playcalling of the no-huddle. However, the OL was far from dominant when they had to play head to head on an even playing field. Without the no huddle advantatge, and after Wilford left, this line was barely above average. It just shows how bad the OL play has been in Buffalo.
  6. too bad our coaches can't teach these techniques.
  7. we already paid him for what he did on the field. You only pay him going forward if he can continue to produce for the bulk of the mega-deal he is looking for. Since his forte is speed - he will likely start to lose a step in the very near future and become an average LB not deserving the big bucks.
  8. makes absolutely no sense to have a backup who must operate in an entirely different offense than your starter. it was stupid for Holcomb to back up Bledsoe and it's even dumber to have him backup either Nall or Losman in a rebuilding year because he can't throw the ball downfield.
  9. he was compensated for his stellar play for the last few years. You don't give him a big new contract for past services. Since he is already on the wrong side of 30, there is very little chance that he will continue to perform at an all-star level to justify a huge long term contract. Bills will probably offer a contract which pays him at a high level for 2 years and then gives them an out.
  10. maybe if all the vets showed up, they wouldn't so cruddy
  11. you asking these guys to show up for a weekend out of a month. They don't hit full speed. Maybe if they actually lived in the city they played in it wouldn't such an inconvenience to show up for the kid's game they are getting paid millions to play.
  12. You mean be the lead whiner. we really don't need one of those.
  13. The only way JP improves is to play in real games. The only way he doesn't start is if he breaks his leg again. Holcomb is a career backup who mkaes game planning eqsy for the defense. Starting him will do more to set the team back than living with JP's growing pains.
  14. I am interested in what system you would implement to take advantage of fat, slow, old often-injured malcontents with bloated contracts that were cut loose?
  15. Bruce usually showed up - he just didn't practice due to an unlisted "injury". Players should make the commitment to the team they play for, including living in that city year round- and attending all team functions, mandatory or not. It's small price to pay for the millions they get to play a kid's game. But if Drew could throw to the neighborhood kids in Montana and count it as serious preparation - why shouldn't Willis stay away?
  16. and it's not that he simply doesn't find ways to win. He loses games on his own with picks and fumbles for TDs and complete failuure to score in the red zone.
  17. It's not the stats with Drew. He will always put up great yardage numbers between the 20s It's the mental melt downs at the worst possble time. Lke last year, when he threw a pick for a TD in the lsat 5 minutes to personally cost them the game.
  18. No team will move to LA. The real value of LA is the leverage gained by threatening to move a team to LA as that team extorts a new publicly funded stadium. Until all teams have brand spanking new stadiums, the NFL will not kill the golden goose by actually putting a team in LA. They generate more TV revenue by not having a team in LA because are free to televise the best matchups and have no worry about black outs. With a home team, TV matchups are severely limited, especially if the LA team is a loser.
  19. The question was why would they retain Guy if was so bad. Well, after considerable evaluation, Marv and the brain trust decided to keep Mullarkey even though he was a total failure as a HC. He quit on his own. With such astute evaluation techniques, maybe they missed a few flaws in John Guy's performance as well.
  20. It's pretty sad when a guy from Detroit fights harder for Buffalo than the "deep caring" locals.
  21. because John Guy is our pro player talent evaluator
  22. Letcher excelled at the cover 2 with the Rams. He only comes off the field if he is hurt. However, that is more than likely due to his increasing age.
  23. Probasbly the same stuff that convinced Marv and Ralph to keep Mullarkey - until he quit on his own.
  24. hard to do when they planted him on the bench on 3rd down. another brilliant coaching philosophy
