  1. there is no off-season for the coaching staff, especially with the college evaluation process underway before the draft. they typically take some time off after the draft.
  2. well- he's wrong. A team can not "tender" a contract to an unrestricted free agent. The only way a team can make a "tender" under the CBA to a UFA is to invoke the franchise or transitition tag provisions for that player.
  3. 1. Bruce played at a weight in the 260's. 2. No matter how long your response, your logic on not drafting a top flight MLB remains completely without foundation. Just because it may be a difficult position to master is no reason to avoid drafting a fine player. With the lack of quality free agents, good drafting is the only sure way to get the studs you need. In fact, based on last year's ignoring trades to draft Whitner at a high priority position, makes it even more likely that the the Bills will spend a high pick on their hand picked replacement at MLB -just because it is so important a position in the cover -2.
  4. the only peolpe looking for a big fat "run-stuffer" to man the middle are the fans on this board. This defense is predicated on speed. The Bills need a better player than Anderson, not necessarily a bigger player.
  5. If you believe that Marv said he won't limit Nate by the franchise tag, then none of teh above applies and the only way the Bills get value for Nate is to sign him and play him. HIghly unlikely they will get a comp pick for Nate since compensation is available only if the Bills lose more free agents than they sign-even if the new FA are lesser talents.
  6. You are correct. And with Teflon Tom screwing the pooch on day 2 of the draft for 5 years (that's over 20 picks wasted) (and day 1 for several years) the Bills have no depth and few superstars. Marv needs to make all the picks count again in 2007.
  7. Irvin put up a fraction of teh numbers of Reed- but did get 3 rings. Even though Reed put up better numbers in his Super Bowl apprearances. But Irvin got a lot of pub for his crack activities and his outright stupidity on national TV every week- so he is the front runner for entry into the Hall. goota love those Hall voters
  8. Steelers are in damage control mode and arguing semantics. They gave the job to Grimm, then the NFL twisted their arm to hire a black coach. If not, the charade of the Rooney Rule would be completely worthless. Sorry Russ.
  9. they don't have a lot of "money". they have a lot of cap room- which is way different than cash.
  10. Retirement may not waive the last year of Cowher's contract. Hard to be retired when you want to coach the Cowboys. The Steelers will take the position that he haad 1 year on his contract when he quit and he needs to coach that last year in Pittsburgh or they need to be compensated if he wants to coach elsewhere.
  11. TD's biggest failure was finding any talent ont he 2nd day of the draft. Out of 5 years of drafts, he produced 1 2nd day starter (McGhee) and accidently found Peters (and then cut him). That is absolutely horrible production and why the talent level on this team is so limited.
  12. I doubt he'll improve on that height much though- ironically - he still may fit the mold of what the bills feel they need in their attacking scheme.
  13. too bad he won't be calling the plays. it must be nice to have a $1mil / yr TEs coach
  14. yes - I can see your logic that the Bills will never draft a rookie MLB because he would always be a rookie his first year and could never contribute.
  15. especially since he is staying in school
  16. they used to have the answer by not including the local revenues in the cap. However, the NFLPA has a single purpose of increasing salaries for its players, so any change to limit bonuses has no chance.
  17. due to his desire to play baseball, there is no way the Bills draft him at #12. allegedly he has a chance to be closer with the Cubs- If he is that good there in no way the Cubs let him get abused on a football field.
  18. By the time the draft rolls around, Hall will have dropped to the bottom of round 1. He may run really, really fast, but he can't cover anybody. He is overhyped. He was abused in the big games and by good WRs. If the Bills draft a CB at #12, it will be Darrelle Revis. However, the Bills may not be inclined to spend a #1 on a CB in a defense that really de-emphasizes tight coerage by the corners. If Branch is gone, which is likely, Jamal Anderson is a more likely option than a CB. Look for LB like Brandon Siler or a CB in round 2.
  19. Brandon Siler from Florida in the 2nd to play MLB. He had great production on a championship Gator team
  20. maybe they should have asked their OL coach what attributes hew valued in a player. too much arrogance in the front office and not enougn communication with the guys coaching the players. This is the biggest improvement Marv has made in getting everyone on the same page.
  21. Kyle Williams will improve in 2007. Howver, they still need to add at least DT. maybe its Jason Jefferson or maybe a first day pick if one is available, but probably not a high priced guy. The improvement will be made in better LB play against the run. Look for the Bills to add several LBs.
  22. I think the Bills need Clements. However, I don't think the Bills agree. The philosphy of the cover-2 is for the CBs to play soft zone. Actually, more skill is needed by the safeties because they must react more to offensive keys and must be able to cover better than traditional safeties. Based on that premise, it's hard to believe the Bills will mega-bucks to a CB to play 10 yards off WRs. sad - but true. The MLB is also key to this defense. So it would be highly unlikely that the Bills spend a #1 pick on someone that needs to convert to a complicated position. If they spend a high pick on a LB to play the middle, it will be one with extensive experience there. They may draft an OLB to rush the pasher, but it won't be to convert him. Don;t be surprised if Jamaal Anderson is the pick to bolster the pass rush.
  23. I was referring to the midgets Roscoe Parrish and Troy Edwards that TD wasted top picks on- and fits the mold with Ginn. sorry to disappoint.
  24. so give us the highlights of what JMac wants
  25. Filling the stadium is not the driving force to keeping the team. In addition to a full house, they also need to geneate an ADDITIONAL $100 million to compete on a level playing field with the big boys. A good poriton of that difference used to be made up by revenue sharing. But under teh new CBA, the difference has grown -not shrunk. A few buses to Columbus should cover the bill.
