Cash to the Cap explained by Chris Brown
obie_wan replied to JoeF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So the quote from Marv is: "We're not going to amortize the future," Levy said. "The cap is $109 million this year. I don't think we're going to 'mortgage the future' type of thing by going beyond the cap." How pray tell do you conclude that they set the budget at $93 million? -
Contrary to Pyrite's protests, Bills will look hard at Patrick Willis, especially if OKoye is off the board

Cash to the Cap explained by Chris Brown
obie_wan replied to JoeF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As they did with Mike Williams, they will break the guaranteed "signing" bonus in tiers which are paid over 2 or 3 years. Thus, the cash paid in year 1 will count against their "budget", additional amounts to be paid in the future will be guaranteed. -

Marv says point blank they will spend cash up to teh cap but somehow you conclude they will have $16 million they don't use. Kindly elaborate on this defective logic. -
Cash to the Cap explained by Chris Brown

I disagree. They will be spending cash up to the cap, but they will not be backloading contracts with the main purpose of maximizing current cap space by deferring cap space to the future. Contracts will be structured so that a player will be able to play out the entire term and the team will not be forced to cut a player due to ridculously high back end years. I think his comments are a good thing in that the Bills have gone on record that they will spend up to the cap. Prior to this there was a serious question as to whether they would be prevented from coming close to teh cap in any scenario. Overall this is a good thing because the team will not become cap strapped in the future and be forced to undergo a major player purge. The team will still be able to compete for top free agents by using tiered bonuses to spread out the cash hit. Performance for value will be the main factor in any contract offer, so that older players on the downside of their careers will not be getting huge long term contracts which they will never fulfill. -
Smith might be let go by Chargers

but his ego will be soothed by mega-millions. He keeps the big bucks even if fired and then can return to the college scene, probably at USC after the Bush scandal clears. -
All this Schumer crap today is pathetic.

he is a politician because he is unqualified for other gainful employment. much easier to gorge at the public trough. NY is the best at rasing taxed to keep those pigs coming back for more. just ask that carpet bagger Hilary why she now claims NY to her home. -

Marty did not report to AJ. They both reported to the owner, with the mandate to work together. AJ will be gone after the draft at teh latest. Pete Carroll is the man with the super-secret anti-Rooney contract already in place. -
Bills release Wr Troy Bergeron.
obie_wan replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
his release is a clear indication that the Bills will select WR in 1st round -
Now that they are good, this happens

jeffrey Loria wants to move teh Marlins because he's having trouble extorting a new stadium in south Florida. a new ballpark with a capacity of 23,000 would be double what the team draws now, so that would be great. He would fit in great with the fans who call Ralph a tightwad. While the Yankees are spending $200 million, the Marlins payroll for active players is under $20 mil. -
Who will be the Chargers' next coach?

Ted Cottrell would be to AJ what Meathead was to Teflon Tom - a poor HC who won't challenge his authority -

It will be Pete Carroll and AJ will be fired, ala Bill Polian. Although he likes to win, Spanos is sick of the "dysfunction". Time to clean house. -
Also not sure why Pyrite is conviinced Crowell can master the MLB posittion which he has never played before. Although it may take some time for Willis to learn the cover-2, at least he has played MLB for his entire career and has the athletic talent and size to make plays.
-
Based on Pyrite's logic, a team could never draft a guy to play MLB because he would be a liability as a rookie but would never get any experence because he didn't play as a rookie. Give it a rest.
-
It's way less of a crap shoot than takinga flyer on a mid-roudn draft pick who has never played a down in the NFL. Withj RFA's, you have film on a guy performing against NFL competition. This is a no-brainer. Especially with so much room under the cap where the 1 week wait will not hold up other FA offers.

Marty Schottenheimer fired!
obie_wan replied to MadBuffaloDisease's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's not a very good DC either. But the post I was responding to clearly thinks Ted is a candidate to replace Marty as HC. 2 more names to add to the list of possible Marty replacements: Ted Cottrell Mike Sherman -

Ted Cottrell- we are talking about HEAD coach, not LB coach. maybe a token minority interview -
Marty Schottenheimer fired!
obie_wan replied to MadBuffaloDisease's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pete Carroll could be the guy. Hard to believe the Chargers make this move without a wink-wink deal in place with someone. And Carroll makes the most sense out of possible candidates. too many cooincidences and circumstances line up to be dismissed outright 1. things WERE great at USC - until the Rggie Bush scandal hits and sanctions are imposed. The NCAA is noitorious for being more lenient if the gulity HC is no longer part of the program. USC may be pushing Pete out before all hell breaks loose in order to induce the NCAA to impose lighter sanctions. 2. Sarkasian mysteriously withdraws from getting a head coaching job in the NFL. a wink-wink whispser that he's the next USC HC this year would sway him from the RAider job. 3. Lane Kiffin, also gets the inside scoop that Sarkasion will be the next HC and bolts for the NFL. 4. firing Marty is delayed for 3 reasons a. AJ keeps Marty off the market so he can't help any other NFL teams this year b. AJ keeps marty from coaching this year to screw marty c. Pete gets to lie to his recruits and gets their commitments while he is still HC at USC 5. Pete gets to stay on the West coast Now- bring on those token minority candidates -
DT Ian Scott or draft DT Amobi Okoye
obie_wan replied to bills_fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sands looked real effective against the Colts in teh Super Bowl. I 'd spend a lot on him. The Bills are not looking for a massive player to play DT. They want someone that can penetrate and disrupt plays behind the line of scrimmage. -
and our LBs are too small as well
-
The 1st free agent they sign will be one of their own- probably Gandy.
-
McIntosh sucks. He is a turnstyle. Why would anyone want to replace Peters with this turd is beyond me. He was cut by teh Dolphins and brought back because no one else wanted him. Just like in Buffalo, the Meathead didn't think he needed a OL

Wade's hiring may mean Cottrell back in the league

good LB coach - not so much a great coordinator since he's an ex-bills coach he gets way overhyped
