  1. 1. Ellison played because they had no one else except Coy Wire. He has the best instincts of the group to play the cover-2, however it remians to be seen if he can hold up at his small size. He needs to get bigger and stronger. 2. Crowell may play MLB by default in 2007, ,but it remains to be seen whether he can change his previous history and attack the line of scrimmage and fill gaps to improve the run suipport. Using hisstory as a guide, he may just be a continuation of Fletcher in run support. His pass coverage will be also be a downgrade due to his inexperience. If he does not go to SF at #11, Willis is a better fit in the MLB due to his playing style agasisnt the run and height and wingspan against the pass. The Bills aren't going to the Superbowl, so they would be willing to live with the rookie learning curve to gain much better production in the middle. 3. For his salary, Spikes is stealing from the Bills. He has a reprieve thru training camp to show that he has regained a fraction of his former range and speed. Bills need to bring in another LB to take his place if can't recover. Spikes' salary is too high to carry him on past glory. It makes more sense to draft the harder to find MLB and use Crowell in this slot. There is no depth as evedenced by Coy Wire as your top backup. Hard to pass on Okoye -but then they did pass on Vince Wilfork when he dropped in their lap a few years back.
  2. Youboty takes over for Clements. Who takes over for McGee since he can't play zone in the cover-2? Probably will see a CB drafted in round 3.
  3. Because he doesn;t have breakaway speed, I can't see jackson going before 3rd / 4th round area. There is a chance one of the tier 2 guys like Pittman, Irons or Hunt may fall to the Bills in the 3rd. Bills should be able to wait unil the 3rd, and take who is left Jackson would be a good fit in a committee.
  4. Bush may be big - but he is no bruiser. He is top heavy and has no balance. Pass I would hope the Bills wait to see who falls to the 3rd round. Pittman would not be a bad target. has better speed than Hunt. I think Booker and Brandon Jackson could be a good fit in a committee approach in the late 3rd or 4th round.
  5. Bills can trade down and Branch will still be available. Anyone too stupid to stay in shape for 2 months until the draft is not someone you want to invest a 1st round pick and lots of money.
  6. newaflash- a team with a 32 year old RB who is starting to get dinged, is not "set"
  7. you left out Paul McGuire and Marty Schottenheimer
  8. Bush is more hype than production He is this year's Ron Dayne- overized finesse runner who can;t stay on his feet Bills will pass
  9. IF Peterson gets to #6, the Redskins will looking to trade down
  10. that's because he played juiced up on Cocaine.
  11. JOHNNY UNITAS, Sid Luckman
  12. I think our DL gets a bad rap for the poor run defense of last year. As you note, the DL's main job is shoot the gaps and attack the backfield. This results in cutback lanes and gaps which the LBs must fill. Our DL was doing a better job than they get credit for, but the LBs were working in sync to fill the gaps= they were making tackles but past the line of scrimmage. Bills will be upgrading the LBs in a big way in the draft.
  13. or not- if you can't get motivated to get in shape for a few weeks while teams ponder how much money they will throw at you, then there is no hope that an overpaid rookie will out-perform expectations. Too much downside with Branch - Bills will play it safe with their 1st round pick.
  14. Relying on Crowell in the middle is basically more of Fletcher without the experience. The Bills have stated they want to improve by getting LBs that attack the line of scrimmage. My guess is they are willing to live with the rookie learning curve if it is offset by aggressive tackling at the line of scrimmage.
  15. they won't be drafting the over sized and overhyped Bush because he has no balance and won't block anybody.
  16. I agree. :blink:One play from an all-star game definitely outweighs the 4 years of highly productive play in his teams system. On top of that, he is dumb as a post (as all rookies are) and he couldn't possibly ever learn to play MLB - it's almost like astro-physics or rocket science.
  17. Bills will not draft Bush. For his size, he has no power and even less balance. you breathe on the guy and he falls down.
  18. well - your recollection is faulty. Bruce played at 265-270 but was very strong and played with good leverage.
  19. Agree Willis goes to SF and Branch is this year's falling star.
  20. Levi Jones probably won't be there since he plays for the Bengals
  21. Carriker may be big enough to play inside
  22. SF will probably take Willis at @11, based on their in depth evaluation of him as coaches for the Senior Bowl. Okoye will go in the top 10 and Branch will probably fall to the Bills. They may consider reaching for Timmons at his point or may seriously consider Lynch since they can get cover-2 CBs in round 3. Hopefully someone really wants Branch and the Bills can trade down.
  23. I think there is zero chance that the Bills will draft Bush. His size is actually a dteriment because he does not run with power and runs too high. Ideal size for RB is about 5-10 and 210-220 lbs. Bills will probably wait to see who drops to the 3rd round with Brandon Jackson and Lorenzo Booker as the emergency back up plan.
  24. Hard to see how Nate gets credit for playing man coverage on the other teams # 1 WR, but McGee was playing in a zone by his lonesome on the other side of the field. The biggest benefit to McGee in the 2nd half of the year was that he was not playing zone any more. He played better because he was playing man, just like Nate was. If he can't figure out how to play zone this year, he will be the nickel back covering the slot WR.
  25. NO Teflon Tom would have because he was always swinging for the fences. However, a 1st rounder (#12) who busts sets the team back years. I believe Marv follows the philosophy of giving up some upside in place of a higher floor with his high picks. Branch may bring some trade offers but not if Mel's valuation at #24 has some merit.
