Mel Kipers Four Round Mock Draft
obie_wan replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Rivers or Harvey did not start, they would see plenty of playing time in a rotation because they are athletic and can play on 3rd downs to pressure the QB. It would not take long for Rivers to be starting ahead of Crowell -
TD drafted short WRs- now the masses want a tall one - even if he is slow as molassas

Heard a report on the radio this aft.

Phins want Chris Long but at a cheaper price -

Pro Football Weekly's football analysis was Joel Buschbaum. They have yet to replace his skills. -
our OL was incapable of converting 3rd and short last year which is why the offense scored so few points. Fairchild also compounded the problem by not even atempting to throw the ball in to the endzone. Albert is a better choice in the 1st round than any WR.
-
Jauron has not changed - but now he has a QB he can ride.
-
All those skill player upgrades become useless when peters gets hurt or the Duke has to fill in for someone. Or the QB has all day to throw, so he throws away from that 1 expensive CB we drafted - instead of a front 7 defender who could pressure teh QB.
-
you are correct! The Bills illustrious front office should not be questioned since they have produced such stellar playoff success with their previous selections and decisions. Excuse me while I continue to believe that building strong OL and defensive front 7 is far more critical to consistent winning than reaching for tall WRs and one year wonders for positions that can be filled adequately in lower rounds or from free agency.
-
There is a huge difference in both talent and position. I prefer drafting a premier DL or OL prospect who slides out of the top 10 that would fortify the foundation of the team. You would rather reach for a 1 year wonder who is on ly being considered in the 1st round because he is tall and the best of a very weak class of WRs. Not to mention, he plays a position that busts more than any other and tyupcially takes 3 years to be productive for the survivors. The Bills have been following your plan for years and the playoff record is telling.

mere discussion of trade with eagles

what does not change for all of eternity is you need to be strong on both lines to be dominant. We are one injury away from having a turnstyle play LT or the Duke take over anywhere else on the line. Albert would be a good pick and a great one if he could be converted to C. -
If we want to trade down, will we be able to?
obie_wan replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree that this should be the plan to use the extra picks we have now to move up in each round to target specific guys. Hopefully the Bills don;t significantly overpay as they have in the past. -
Whats the worst thing that the Bills could do
obie_wan replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
yo,ace- that's the point. if you have CB that can cover allover the field, but you r defense has them locked in zone on 1 side of the field,- it is a major waste of resources to pay for a top flight cover CB. To play man effectively, you will need top flight CBs to cover all of the NE WRs or else your weak CB will get picked on and toasted. - thereby again wasting your big cost, top flight cover CB. Impact defenders for the front 7 that can stop the run and rush the passer is the priority. . -
[closed]Philly to trade with Bills?
obie_wan replied to billsevans's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You do if he will be a Pro Bowl caliber OL for years to come. The only reason is doesn't start in 2008 is the Bills may take a year to switch his position to C -
its not the draft slot, it's the questionable talent being selected that will doom the Bills to mediocrity - but I'm sure you knew that. Passing up impact defenders or OL for a "tall" WR that belongs in the 2nd round is not how to build a talent base.

Bills would be far better off taking Albert. At worst, he would push all of the starters and serve as the only bona fide backup T on the roster. At best, he could start at C -
too bad we don;t have a GM to fire

Should the Ravens trade up with Miami for Matt Ryan or
obie_wan replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
relying on a 3rd round rookie to be your only backup QB for 2008 is pretty suicidal. Expecting to strike gold 2 years in a row is pretty optimistic. Since the scuttlebut is that Jauron is playing for his job in 2008 - can't see how they move JP this year. Even if they keep JP, that 3rd round QB may be ready to play in 2009 and would be a more prudent plan than trading JP for peanuts now. -
you blew your chance at #11 to get a playmaker and instead added a bunch of marginal players. Not exactly how you become a contender. Earl Bennett or Jordy Nelson can be had in 2nd/3rd round to fill your WR hole- althoug it is questionable if any rookie WR is going to add much in 2008. Bills should have signed Bryant Johnson if they needed an immediate improvement in 2008.

obie_wan replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Unfortunately there is very little chance that any of the WRs reached for at #11 will provide any immediate "impact". Bills would be better served by taking the more talented player (Rivers, Harvery, Albert, etc) who will be a long term playmaker- rather than reach for an inferior player just because he is tall and at the top of the WR list -
With the shortened time to make picks

only if the front office contains a bunch of morons.
