2 Scenes From The Chess Game & I'm Unsure on Dennison
Happy replied to BadLandsMeanie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks for this analysis, looks like a tremendous amount of work. I get the gist of what you're saying regarding the players needing to make it work. But my concern is that this is happening every week. It is week 13 and it seems the players are still struggling with the offense, in particular the blocking scheme. It just seems that this years offense is last years defense. McD and Frazier simplified the defense and it is paying off. The same should be done with the offense. So looking at it that way, Dennison is the problem, like Rex was the problem last year. -
The Ultimate Bills Debate - Was Doug Whaley A Good GM?
Happy replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Glad to hear this. Never said Whaley was the grand architect of the 2014 defense, just that he was more than a footnote. -

No one is asking you to give Whaley credit for things that happened before he was a GM. At least give him credit for talent he brought in while he was GM, but you seem uninterested in this. Dennison is plain horrible as OC. So what if he was the QB coach in Balt at one time? -

We'll agree to disagree. No point in carrying this on since you will give Whaley zero credit. -

No, not trolling. Went back and looked, you're right about Alonso, he was injured. Bradham was drafted in 2012. Whaley was director of Pro Personnel at that time and an underling to Nix. While Nix brought in talent, so did Whaley. Whether Nix's talent is better than Whaley's talent, or not, is a matter of opinion. Nix had his share of screw-ups - remember the 'phone conversation' he supposedly had with the Buc's GM? -

I think it's a little of both at the time. There were Nix guys (Dareus, Gilmore, Mario, plus others) and Whaley guys (P Brown, Bradham, Hughes, Alonso, Spikes, and others.) Whaley was a little more than a footnote; at least try and be fair even though it is clear you dislike Whaley. -

I think Jim Schwartz would disagree with this. No, Rex's defensive system destroyed the defense. -

Hughes is a solid pass rusher, Brown is an average MLB; not sure what your issues are with them. Other than Jerry's temper and dumb penalties at times. Shaq ans Ragland were guys Rex wanted. They fit his 3-4 system. Shaq holds an edge and is solid vs the run; we'll see if he stays or not. Washington is a rotational DT, we do need an upgrade here. -

I did a search on Whaley's drafts since I was thinking they weren't that bad, at least I don't remember that. While Whaley wasn't absolutely horrible at drafting, he wasn't great either. He hit on a few, missed on a few, but most picks were 'meh'. So not the best drafter out there over his tenure here. The QB situation really hurt him. -

Hughes was brought on via trade with Indy while Whaley was the acting GM and Buddy Nix was GM by title. I think Hughes for Shepherd was a Whaley trade. -

I'll bet you're right, at least it seems that way when you trade a former 1st round DT in the middle of the season for peanuts. Given Beane's staff, there is zero reason why they can't nail the draft this year, which they need to do given the dearth of talent we now have. -

I think in general Whaley was a good GM who was hamstrung by coaches who were not his choice, as well as meddling new owners. Had he been able to choose his own coach, that he could work with, I think he would still be here and we very well may have broken the playoff drought by now. As others said, Whaley excelled at finding some diamond in the rough FAs. The Watkins pick will go down as a huge mistake, but this is known in retrospect. I do applaud his aggressiveness in bringing in the best talent he could, as well as making some shrewd trades. I do think Whaley's downfall was the QB position, which he passed on several in the draft following 2013 when he picked EJ Manuel. I don't count EJ as his miss, necessarily, since his back was against the wall in 2013 thanks to Buddy Nix. Cardale Jones was puzzling. A 5th round flier on a QB with an incomplete college career was probably a little early. Whaley was the best GM we had in many years when you look at the likes of Tom Donahoe, Marv Levy, Russ Brandon, and Buddy Nix. In the end, I think Whaley can be credited with starting the process of bringing the Bills back to relevancy. -
D&C's Maiorana: Dennison's Offense Uninspiring
Happy replied to OldTimeAFLGuy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I completely agree that McDermott should be telling Dennison what he wants to see and what he doesn't want to see at this point; playoffs are on the line and I'll go out on a limb and say that McDermott wants to make the playoffs. Dennison has proven that he should not be trusted with game planning and play calls. -

As much as I would like to have seen Dennison canned yesterday, who would be the OC? Not sure they have their Anthony Lynn on staff this year. So we have to wait it out for the remainder of this season. If McDermott keeps Dennison around next season, that would be dumb on his part since Dennison makes McDermott look bad. -

The article offered nothing new, most of us already were aware of the things Sal mentioned. I think the Bills mentally will come to play, and play well. It's Dennison I worry about, he won't be able to out maneuver Matt Patricia. -
Both teams game plan (IMO) Sunday Pats v Bills
Happy replied to PatsFanNH's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Benjamin's not playing. They'll probably try to force McCoy and Cadet running; Dennison doesn't know any better. Passing: Clay, McCoy, and Zay Jones should see a lot of passes their way on more intermediate routes. Doubt they go long much since Tyrod isn't very accurate. Also expect to see Tyrod run a lot, and hopefully he will be allowed more play action. If Dennison forces him to stay in the pocket, then it will play into the Pats hands and further handicap Tyrod. -
Is that really a nice way to describe cheerleaders?

This^^^. Their D has held them back far too long.

It's lunch with Whaley, not Beane.

Quarterback Christmas Shopping
Happy replied to TorontoBillsFan99's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, I've heard this from several sources over the past year or so. Granted, they're second hand, but they all seemed to come to the same conclusion. I live in the area, so by default I hear about Redskin news from both the media, as well as fans who follow the team closely. Most around here seem to think Cousins is 'ok' and can do a lot worse. But they also want to see him come up big in important situations; such as week 17 last season where he threw a pick to the Giants DB in the end zone as the Redskins were driving to score and win the game to make the playoffs. Result of the game was no playoffs for the 'Skins.
