Freddy Jackson leading the charge this Sunday!
Happy replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Then he went to Seattle and did pretty much nothing. Fred was a consummate Bill, but he wasn't going to stay young forever. All players have to face retirement at one point or another. -

I don't think that fans are necessarily soft now, I just think they're getting a little tired of the NFL. -

The NFL wasn't anywhere near as big and popular back then, as it is now. It certainly wasn't year round, in your face like it is now. -
Ridiculous Newsweek Article About the Bills
Happy replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is definitely true. Some of the smaller media outlets, such as Breitbart, will have articles on Monday with photos showing various stadiums across the league. Pretty noticeable all the empty seats, and not just the upper deck areas. -
Lets just go for Kirk Cousins in the offseason

Thanks. So it sounds like the Redskins can keep Cousins. They'll want way more than Cousins is worth. -

Can the Redskins afford to keep Cousins if a deal cannot be worked out with another team? I thought I saw somewhere this would be cap prohibitive, but this could be off. Funny thing is Cousins was Mike Shanahan's pick, RGIII was Danny Snyder's pick, both drafted the same year. Their exGM, Scott McGloughan (sp?), who they fired last spring wanted to get a deal done for Cousins two years ago to avoid just this very situation, from what I understand. Dan Snyder and Bruce Allen couldn't make up their minds so the deal never got done. The Redskins FO is a dysfunctional mess, which may not get better anytime soon. -
He posted last Sunday and Monday.

It shouldn't matter that McDermott was here before Beane, who is the GM. It is up to him to think strategically about the team going forward. McDermott has more say than the average coach, or so it seems.
-
Alex Smith makes sense. Andy Reid is probably ready to start the Mahomes era. My guess is Kelce stays in KC; too valuable a target for Mahomes. If we get Alex Smith, that will allow McDermott and Beane to draft a QB, though I suspect they won't spend a lot of draft capital to do so. Too many other holes to fill.

Tolbert and Ducasse must have memorized the manifesto.
-
Not this year, they're really banged up. They've had to bring guys in and make a bunch of adjustments due to the injuries. In Cousins' defense, I don't think he can be judged too much this year due to their OLine injuries.

This is a good post. I was going to say that the Brees/Brady/Rogers of the world are hard to come by. Everyone wants them, but they don't exactly grow on trees. NE really lucked out with Brady, I don't think there was anyway they envisioned their 6th round backup QB becoming one of the best of all time.
-
Well, if we get him, I certainly hope it works out. I'll give Beane and McDermott the benefit of the doubt until they're proven wrong.
-
I don't know on Cousins. I keep thinking back to week 17 Redskins vs Giants last year where he threw the pick in the end zone, which ended the game and the Redskins chances of making the playoffs. Maybe Cousins learned and moved on from that, but maybe not. Just seems like he's kind of a risk and not worth what he'll be commanding as far as salary.

Keep posting. Some of us are interested in what you have to say. Ignore those who are not.

Robert Griffin III - should Bills consider him for backup QB?
Happy replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pass on RGIII. I'd rather keep Tyrod, in that case. RGIII had character issues in Washington, such as going behind the coache's back and taking his case to Danny directly. -
Even for $25 M/year? Kind of a lot for Cousins. I've heard that is what he'll ask, but not sure he's worth that, and I'd be surprised if the FO thinks so.
-
What about the Dennison part...is he back next year or not?
-
He corrected that a few posts down. If Tyrod cannot be traded, he will be released.
-
We're in complete agreement here. Keeping the team focused and getting to 4 in a row is no easy feat, then or now. IMO, no one will ever repeat that. If he would have won even one SB, I suspect Marv would be viewed in a better light.
-
Highly doubt Dennison looks any better on a different team. But I'm willing to find out. Regarding our last 2 OC's: Greg Roman was basically scapegoated by Rex. I seem to recall several posters on this board having issues with Roman two years ago, as well as the first two games last year, and not sorry to see him go. I thought he was so-so, but also over complicated the playbook. Enter Anthony Lynn. He simplified the playbook and tailored the offense to Tyrod; our offense was not the problem last year. So Anthony Lynn got a HC positon with the Chargers. If he sucked last year with Tyrod and the offense, do you think he would have been promoted? I don't. Again, I think Dennison is the problem and I do not see him being successful anywhere other than behind Gary Kubiak or Mike Shanahan, neither of which are coaching. Dennison struggles on his own. Hopefully McDermott sees this.
-
I think this is where we differ. Dennison has been a huge problem, and IMO, is responsible for the Carolina and Cincy losses due to his inept playcalling. You can also look at him for the Jets loss, he insisted on running into a five man stacked front. Then there is his blocking scheme which the OLine is still struggling with. Tyrod and the offense had much better production last year, so why the drop off this year? Don't get me wrong, I think it is time to move on from Tyrod, but he's not the only problem.
-
Good post, and I agree. Should be interesting to see if McDermott is willing to make coaching staff changes, especially this one. My fear is that he retains Dennison citing QB not able to run the offensive scheme properly. If this is the case, McDermott isn't any different than many of the coaches in the NFL now; forcing a system on players regardless if their skillset doesn't align with said system.

I think Tyrod is released after this season. No team would want to take his remaining salary and bonus structure.
