And I think they will draft a QB, also. We're probably looking at somewhere around a 3rd for Smith, which still gives us plenty to work with to move up (possibly) and draft a QB. That would give us Smith as a bridge QB while we develop Peterman and rookie; would be a great position to be in going into next season. That said, we do have a number of other holes to fill, which is why I doubt we move up to top 5 in the first round.

Alex Smith is a much better passer, and QB in general, than Tyrod. IMO, the only reason to keep Tyrod is if we plan on running a spread offense next year, which I don't see happening. This is coming from someone who doesn't dislike Tyrod. I just suspect McDermott wants a more typical drop back, pocket passer, as evident by drafting Peterman.

I really hope we can work out a trade for Alex Smith. Not sure why anyone wouldn't want him, at least for a year or two.

I don't. Even if they get past the Steelers and go to the SB, you have teams like Minny, NO, and LAR which could all beat NE. Don't discount the NFC, which I think is stronger than the AFC...including NE.

I too am a McDermott fan, and agree with this. I hope he saw exactly what can happen, when you take you foot off the gas with a good sized lead, with the last Miami game. Miami should have been done by the end of the third quarter. Instead we let them back in it in the 4th quarter, which then became a nail biter. Teams will come back and beats us if we do that during the post season. McDermott should know this from his time with Carolina.

In others words, Dennison should do this playoff game what he should have been doing all year. Hope a light comes on in Dennison's head.

That Duval pride board must be so boring. I've read a couple of threads that posters here linked to, and they pretty much sucked.

The coaching staff. They are going to have to come up with a plan to limit what the Jags do and put our players in a position to succeed. Any preconceived/favored scheme will need to come second to the personnel we have and what they can do.

I'm not as sure about this. Willie McGinest spent the majority of his career, along with Bruschi who spent his entire career, with the Pats and won SBs with them. I think their loyalty to the Pats and Kraft runs deeper than their broadcasting career. I'd be surprised if they turned on their alma mater for a story they won't even get credit for. There are a number of others in the organization, non-players most likely, who would leak this kind of info, imo.

This is what I think will happen. McDaniels will be the next HC in NE. I wouldn't be surprised if Patricia sticks around too; he'll potentially have a lot of power and full say on the defensive side of the ball.

Agree that QB was Whaley's glaring weakness. But if reports were correct, that he had Deshaun Watson on his board, maybe Whaley started to figure it out...dunno.

This is why I wouldn't want Bradford. I would suspect he won't actually solve any problems at the QB position because of this.
