  1. Thinking about this, I'll backtrack a bit on Bevell as he may deserve a look. I was initially thinking about the goal line pass call in the SB loss to the Pats, which I think someone pointed out may have been an error by Russell Wilson as well as the type package the Pats lined up with. My point was I just don't want another Dennison type choice for OC. I don't have a particular position coach(s) in mind; I just wish/hope McDermott will approach this with an open mind, which too many coaches don't necessarily do...they'll hire who they know/are comfortable with. I get what others are saying that an inexperienced position coach can be a gamble if you're not completely sure about them, but it may be a chance worth taking if someone with OC experience has been uninspiring in previous jobs.
  2. Why do we have to recycle other teams' trash? Why can't we think independently and try something different, such as give an assistant/position coach a shot? I have not paid a lot of attention to Seattle this season, but they seemed to have fallen off offensively from previous seasons. There is a reason why Bevell, as well as some of these other OCs, are gone.
  3. I was going to make a process joke, but those are getting old. Honestly, I'd start to wonder if McDermott actually cared about the offense. If he promoted from within, it means that he exerted no effort in getting any number of available candidates.
  4. Peyton Manning and the 2015 Broncos offense regressed under Dennison. They're fortunate that the defense and Wade Phillips were so good that they overcame the Dennison handicap.
  5. Exactly. I'm an advocate to getting Alex Smith in FA for a 3rd, who I think is a better passing QB than Tyrod. Is Alex Smith going to solve all our problems? No. But I suspect he'll be an improvement to what we have now. It is crazy to spend a fortune and move up to the top 5 with the amount of holes we have in other positions. If we move up, it should be in the 10-15 range which won't cost as much. QB is a gamble, and more so than other positions - maybe it will work out, maybe it won't. Do we really want to find out that that a guy we bet the house on doesn't pan out? Imagine the regret if that happens, since it will set us back years.
  6. This Forbes slideshow is crap. Cowboys are 1st and Patriots are 4th...terrible. I remember opening day a couple of years back in Dallas when they opened the season against the 49ers, there was more red jerseys in the stands than Cowboy fans. New England has a lot of bandwagon fans; we'll soon see their fanbase greatly shrink once Brady retires. After 17 seasons without a post season appearance, and we're still loyal to this team, I think that makes us a strong consideration for #1 fan base.
  7. More like the system Anthony Lynn ran last year after Roman was fired. It was an effective system for Tyrod, as well as the rest of the offensive squad. The offense was not the problem last year, like it was this year.
  8. Much like Zay Jones, let's give Peterman a little longer to develop before cutting losses on them. You could be right, but it is still way too early to come to any conclusions, in my opinion.
  9. Belichick apparently holds grudges, which is why the Patriots could be screwed the day after Brady hangs it up.
  10. Agree. QB is the 800 lb gorilla in the room, but the DLine needs to be overhauled - 2 DTs and a pass rushing DE. Besides that, I can also see MLB being upgraded. Then there is the OLine - probably need a Guard and Tackle, but McDermott needs to make a decision as to what type of blocking scheme he wants to use next season. We need to win more battles in the trenches, which has hurt us this year...on both sides of the ball.
  11. How much do you think the Dolphins missed Tannehill this season? I'd think quite a bit.
  12. Agree. I don't see Tyrod back next season, either.
  13. This is a very good perspective and makes sense. Quite possible...
  14. Tyrod had a terrible game on Sunday, no doubt. We did not alter the offense significantly since Tyrod stayed in the pocket the vast majority of the time, like he has all season long. Additionally, the blocking scheme was horrible this season where most of the time Tyrod left the pocket only to avoid getting sacked. That is on Dennison and Castillo. Last year we were what, 10th in scoring offense. This year we're close to the bottom...29th? off the top of my head.
  15. Yeah, there are a number of people who are not looking at the entire picture. Everything is the QBs fault or the QB deserves all the credit. Football is a total team sport (including coaching) where there are lots of moving parts and interchangeable pieces.
  16. Tyrod is not a traditional drop back passer, that we know. I think it is also accurate to say that Tyrod hasn't changed in three seasons and still has the same short comings as a QB and no doubt struggles as a passer. My point was simply that if we ran a more spread type of offense, and less predicated on pocket passing, like we did last season, Tyrod would have been more comfortable and we would have at least been an average offense statistics/scoring wise. You are correct, Tyrod's long ball was horrible this year, can't deny that; I would guess this is because he was not comfortable 'being a QB.'
  17. I never said there is a system where Tyrod is unstoppable; he's a mediocre QB, so he can always be stopped. But in a system that allows him to be a dual threat, though more of a running threat than passing, Tyrod would thrive more in that system. The offense was way more pocket passing based than running/spread. So it may very well be Dennison's fault, or if as Gugny stated below, it could be part of the process. Either way, IMO, we way under performed on offense this year, even with the lack of talent. Then there is the zone blocking scheme which can't be denied was a big step back from last season's power blocking scheme. All contributed to a poor offense, which Dennison shoulders most of the blame. If that was the case (part of the process) then there is no doubt that it is time to move on from Tyrod as he and Dennison will never work well together. Tyrod is not a pocket passer and misses a lot of open receivers; that has been proven. If it was indeed part of the process, then we're extremely fortunate to have made the playoffs.
  18. I understand that, but you can't tell me that Tyrod was worse in 2015 and 2016. You also can't deny that the offense in general this season was much worse than the past two seasons.
  19. I get what you are saying - every excuse under the sun for Tyrod. But you're missing the point that Dennison's system was not a fit for Tyrod (which should have been seen in camp), yet it was stubbornly forced on him anyway. The results were putrid.
  20. Yeah, the whole thing is perplexing. I don't get what goes through coach's and coordinator's minds sometimes. They should have seen in camp that Tyrod was never going to work in a west coast type offense and heavily modified the scheme to suit Tyrod, since he was the best QB we had on the roster.
  21. So your thought is McDermott was pretty much hands off regarding the offense and Dennison implemented his plan as he saw fit? Certainly a possibility and what I suspected most of this season.
  22. I've been a big critic of Dennison, but I've been wondering how much of the offensive scheme is Dennison and how much is it McDermott? In other words, what if McDermott told Dennison: run an offensive predicated on pocket passing, and Dennison simply complied. Just thinking about this past season's offense, it at least appears that McDermott did not tell Dennison to run an offense based on Tyrod's skillset and strengths. If he did, we would have seen more spread formations, bootlegs, QB options, etc; it would have looked more like a college offense.
  23. Close. Per spotrac, Tyrod's $6M roster bonus is due 3/16/18, with $1M fully guaranteed at signing.. The Bills have 2 weeks to try and trade him before he has to be cut, if that is what they want to do. He'll most likely end up getting cut and picked up by another team in FA.
  24. If anything, it should have been defensive PI, not an interception.
  25. I wouldn't jump on the Keenum train just yet. I'd want to see him have another year like this so I know it wasn't a fluke. Bradford would be fine if he wasn't injured so much. I'd be ok with Cousins, but Alex Smith would be my first choice.
