  1. NE could have made Brady an offer. At no point before Tampa's offer did Brady come out and say "Peace out."
  2. My argument is consistent. You're just rephrasing everything I said to try and strengthen your view of Murphy. Good evening.
  3. Then why didn't NE match TB's offer? I have no idea who BB wants as QB, though I'm sure he has a pretty good idea, otherwise he would have retained Brady.
  4. Why didn't they build the defensive front in 2017, yet they picked up Poyer, Hyde, and Tre? Green Bay screwed up with Hyde, their loss is our gain. Your words, not mine. All I said was McD and Frazier have a DB centric view of defense, which they do.
  5. I think Belichick knows Brady has very little left in the tank and wants to make a change at QB. Could be. If Belichick wants to make a change at QB, Brady feels slighted and wants to prove he can still play; an ego play by Brady.
  6. Doubt it. Brady wanted one final payday before he hangs the helmet up for good. Tampa decided to give him the money and Brady took it since NE wasn't going $30M/year.
  7. McD was the DC, Ron Rivera was the HC. Frazier was not there. Completely different circumstances.
  8. Fine. You go ahead and settle on mediocrity. Shaq did a much better job at setting the edge and not being pushed out of the play. He also got more QB sacks. McD and Frazier have a DB centric view of defense; the defensive front comes second. If Murphy was so good, why didn't Washington make more of an effort to retain him?
  9. He played over 600 snaps...so what? That is way too many. Murphy was also behind Jordan Phillips and Shaq Lawson in sacks, and was credited with something like 8 or 9 QB hits...one every other game. Murphy did a terrible job of sealing the edge so misdirections, screens, and rushes around his edge were low hanging fruit for opposing offenses. He is not a starting DE and the Redskins saw that. My opinion makes perfect sense; I'm sorry you don't see it.
  10. What did McD and Frazier want Murphy to do that Shaq didn't do better? Stats don't support Murphy outperforming Shaq.
  11. I know. I already posted about it. It was my bad as I was reading too many threads too quickly. That is a great question for McDermott and Frazier. Shaq was more productive than Murphy. My *guess* is that Murphy is McD's guy, Shaq was inherited from the previous regime.
  12. The Rams are going to have cap problems in the near future. That said, I would have to believe they would want to hold onto Aaron Donald any way necessary...but I would love to see him as a Bill.
  13. Didn't mean to give the wrong impression, Murphy is DE depth. Second sentence: no idea, probably not many. My point is that he is basically a depth player that is used only as needed. Not part of the planned rotation. Because Murphy is trying to get back into the play from the RT pushing him 10 yards away from the action.
  14. He IS a DE3 or DE4. I NEVER said he wasn't an NFL player, just that he is not a starter or even should see greater than 25% of snaps. Murphy played as much as he did because the DE/edge position really wasn't addressed last year. Murphy was overvalued by Beane/McD in 2017. Will do, thread shepherd.
  15. This is for the Bills only. Doesn't compare to other d-linement in the league. Bottom line is to be a championship team, you can't settle for the Murphy's and Star's of the world. Which is exactly why he gets picked on in wide runs, misdirections, and screens. Murphy is usually pushed well out of the play by the RT.
  16. I have no idea where you got these stats. Here: http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?seasonType=REG&d-447263-n=1&d-447263-o=2&d-447263-p=1&statisticPositionCategory=DEFENSIVE_LINEMAN&d-447263-s=DEFENSIVE_SACKS&tabSeq=1&season=2019&experience=&Submit=Go&archive=false&conference=null&qualified=true
  17. I didn't let the facts get in the way of my conclusion, they are available on nfl.com if you care to look. I took his work as the whole of the season, not just an outlier of a couple of games. Murphy was also credited for 8 or 9 QB hits, IIRC, which is one for every other game. Not good for a DE who sees the majority of snaps at left DE. Murphy is also terrible at stopping the run and maintaining disciple at the edge, where he routinely got picked on in misdirection and screen plays. Serious question: is there anything that McD does wrong to you? You are clearly one of his biggest defenders. I think he is excellent in the defensive backfield (Bill Belichick commented that the Bills do a great job of disguising coverages), but I think he is inadequate on the offensive side of the ball as well as the front defensive unit.
  18. My bad. I see what you meant. I was going through a number of posts fairly quick. I wouldn't have any problem paying $15M/yr for the type of production I wish Buffalo would get from an edge player. Unfortunately, that appears to be down the list on McD's priorities; he favors the defensive backfield.
  19. I'm glad someone sees the big picture. Murphy is worth $15-20M/year? Now I know you've jumped the shark.
  20. Good point about the 2016 season, explains a lot. I believe he did have an injury history which is probably why the Redskins didn't make a real attempt to keep him. McD and Beane overpaid him and now should either a) cut him, or b) reduce his pay. True, we have plenty of cap space (not a reason to overpay meh production), so use it to bring in additional offensive linemen, another 1-tech, RB, etc. I'm sure Shaq Lawson saw what Murphy was making, and wanted more since his production was more than Murphy's. You would feel the same way if you were Shaq...I know I would.
  21. I don't think McD is anywhere near as good evaluating the d-line, or really any other position, aside from the defensive backfield. He made remarks that he wanted to see more QB pressures and sacks from the defensive line; they finished 12th in that category, though largely from Jordan Phillips' and Shaq Lawson's efforts. Murphy was well below those two in defensive statistics, yet he was paid many times more than them. Murphy may have a high motor, but has a hard time getting away from the RT, who usually pushes Murphy 10+ yards out of the play. Chris Kelsay played with intensity, too. Dick Jauron loved that high motor. McD likes Murphy (and Star) because they are 'his' guys; I don't see them playing on better defenses such as SF or Baltimore, for example. Which had little to nothing to do with Murphy. If you look at defensive lineman stats on NFL.com, Murphy is well below Lawson and J. Phillips, yet was paid many times more than both.
  22. Then at least don't play him greater than 33% of the snaps, if that. Having guys like Star and Murphy simply means you have depth, that's it.
  23. Murphy (and Star) get paid too much for what they do. You can't keep Murphy at $8M/year. Murphy had a good game vs Houston and now all of a sudden he is clutch. The rest of the year he wasn't anything spectacular. Counting on Murphy and Star to make your defense stout is like counting on a car air freshener to make an outhouse smell good.
  24. I wouldn't necessarily jump to that conclusion. AB was a rookie in 2010, and not yet a head case...as far as I know. Things change and I'm sure Bruce Arians has taken note. I believe AB is done in the NFL...no one wants him.
  25. Yes, for about two years: 2010-2011
