Pour one out for the XFL. The league is reportedly done.
Happy replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Also early to mid 80's. I remember Wrestlemania on pay per view, it was not to be missed. Vince McMahon made a fortune on that and WWF, in general; he struck gold once and should probably be happy about that. -

This is too bad, I wanted to see the XFL succeed. At the very least, it would have become a minor league for the NFL where borderline NFL caliber players could play. IMO, the NFL needs something like this as college is not doing anything to prep these young guys for the pros and there is no where else for borderline pro players to learn and get better, aside from the practice squads. I don't believe the XFL was ever in competition with the NFL, otherwise the season would have coincided, which would have been dumb for the XFL to even attempt. -
Brandon cooks/4th round pick traded to Texans for pick 57

Your post makes me recall someone else mentioning this same thing a few months back -- O'Brien is a good game planner and strategist, but a horrible GM. The Hopkins trade certainly demonstrates this. -

He still beat us, as sad as that is. -
At least we're not the Falcons

The one on the far right is the best, which I guess is the throwback. Seems like an unnecessary change, like a uniform switch will make the Falcons better. -
This change was for the better, the Bucs are back to the 1997-2013 uniforms, which were fine. I hated the digital alarm clock numbering on the jerseys.

Super Bowl XXV. I'm expecting the ball to go through the uprights like it should have that fateful night in Tampa.

Carruci: Bills not pursuing Cam Newton
Happy replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe the QB's size has something to do with it. Another point is mobility; the more mobile, the more the QB should be viewed as a QB/RB combo. Did Big Ben not get roughing calls? I don't recall. He is a bigger QB and used to scramble often enough. -

No idea, though I don't pay attention to the Panthers, in general. I personally think Cam is on the immature side. Interesting that the new regime just cut him rather than keeping him on the team if Cam was that valuable going forward; should say all you need to know. Absolutely agree with the first sentence. Not all QBs got the Tom Brady treatment. The new coaching staff chose not to retain Cam and release him, which tells me all I need to know. -

That he's a whiner and pouts when he doesn't get his way. In general, an entitled baby. -

Even given the fact that Beane knows Cam's character and tendencies? I'm not so sure, though I am interested in what others think. -
I like the way you're thinking in this post. Problem is I'm not sure there is a DE worth taking with our second round pick, To get a Diggs-type DE, a true first or second round guy needs to be selected; not sure they do that in a couple of weeks.
-
I wouldn't mind seeing another DE added (get rid of Murphy), but I'm not sure this is a very good draft for DE/Edge rushers.

Let's say the Bills did not have Josh Allen, but rather Ryan Tannehill (or equivalent) as the QB, does anyone think Beane would pursue Cam Newton? Not sure if the Carolina connection is strong enough to overlook Cam acting like Cam usually does - a crybaby. -
It's really not a schtick, but merely pointing out that Josh had real problems with longer throws where he routinely overthrew his receivers. The cause for this is up for debate. If we're talking about short and medium (up to 20 yards) having Diggs would have helped others get open. One thing I don't want to see this coming season is Diggs used as a decoy by Daboll to try and get his boy Foster going. I want Diggs to be used like the weapon he is. Maybe unnecessary worrying on my part, but wanted to bring that up. Going back to the longer throws, if Josh can get his accuracy squared away, Diggs (in conjunction with John Brown) will stretch the field which will benefit all of the receivers.

I don't think it should be looked at as drafting a "4th WR" but rather drafting for the future. Brown and Beasley are 30 and 31 years old, and while still having a few years left, attention needs to be directed to their replacements; this is the year to do that. McKenzie, Foster, or Duke are options to be cut, as well...though I would like to see Duke make the team.
-
I'm more of a trenches first guy, but this ^^^ is right on. I wouldn't mind seeing a WR taken in the 3rd or 4th, as well as a RB.
-
If Josh still overthrows him by 5 yards, nothing changes. Not sure I see the whole point to this exercise.

I never said it had to do with Frank Reich. All I said was that Norwood favored kicking toward the right because he was missing to the left pre-game warmups, per the NFLN film I watched. Norwood was good enough during the regular season and playoffs; he wan't unreliable or terrible, otherwise he wouldn't have been part of the Super Bowl Bills team.

The Bills beat the Giants in the Meadowlands several weeks prior to SB XXV. Game was around the second week of December. The Giants were a great team, but the Bills were better, just not that day in Tampa. Regarding the partying, I don't think it is overblown at all. There were reports from the opposing teams (Dallas, at least) where it was no secret the Bills were out late during the week leading up to the game.
-
I remember seeing a documentary on NFLN about past Super Bowls, where XXV was discussed. What came up was that Scott Norwood was missing practice field goals to the left before the game. He was compensating by favoring to the right during the game. That last kick he either over compensated or hit the ball like he normally did during the season. Bad luck that game.

This is the best WR class of our generation
Happy replied to Tesla03's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought I remember reading recently that Beane/McD/scouts were not impressed with the WRs they spoke to at the combine, which is probably why they gave up a first round pick and signed Diggs. At the very least I interpret it to mean that most of these guys are not WR1 material. -

List seems a little hosed, and it is more than just Josh.
