Looks like Japan. They are owning Sweden. US has never lost to Japan, which is surprising since Japan has been playing amazing and the US has not. They will have their hands full with the Smurfs.

I'm OK with some more taxes for poor people too. In fact, it's less likely to hurt the economy since poor people don't create as many jobs. I hate this spare the poor and middle class bull ****. Everyone needs to bite the bullet. Rich and poor. It won't. This is about debt reduction, not job creation. Paying off the debt means among other things, high unemployment stays around, no dramatic increase in social spending, infrasturcture spending, etc...and a huge uptick in whiney bitches. -
There goes that Ron Paul guy talking all crazy again
Peace replied to /dev/null's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I second GG. Ron Paul is a wonderful counter to a lot of big government nonsense but many of his solutions are devoid of any relation to reality. I like that he's in Washington to expose so much of the crap that goes on but I'd be loathe to see him in charge. -
There's some interesting study about September 12, 2011 and how it was measurably sunnier and hotter over a wide geographic area than could be accounted for except that there were no planes flying in north american airspace. Read that in a pseudoscience book like Freakonomics or one of Gladwell's. Always struck me as interesting.

Evade the question, fine. Your ball-less president is a tool for his stance on gay marriage. I didn't think you were serious to defend the signing of a document that says "slavery is bad, I'm against children being used in the sex trade, and I'm also against gay marriage" as anything other than pandering. I guess she really is principled. Let me go on record as also stating that I am against slavery too. You're right: I now feel principled.

Do you live in some other country?

The announcer said that the Brazil men's team was taking a thumping Saturday and the fans started chanting "We want Marta." The US men's team is often a World Cup qualifier, which is a big improvement over the doormat they once were. Still need to get better.
-
On the women's side, the fake injuries are rarely seen. The huge exception to that was on display yesterday as Brazil is a team that fakes like the men.
-
Second yellow is a red which is an ejection for that and the next game. Back to back games with yellows disqualify you for the next game.
-
Brazil is the only women's team that flops around like fish. Nice to see them sent packing by the USA's completely inspired play after that red card.

Raise The Debt Limit Already!
Peace replied to Dave_In_Norfolk's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
You're another tool missing the point. The base of the right and left is set. The independents swung to Obama last time. Most Independents realize that the debt problem won't be solved by burying your head in the sand on spending and taxes. You have to BOTH cut spending and raise taxes to solve that. Will that lower unemployment? Probably not. But as Magox keeps saying (WTF is the world coming to...I'm quoting Magox)...9-10% unemployment and 2-3% growth is the new norm. People will have to get used to that while we fix the underlying economic problems. It will take 20-25 years to fix but I'd rather hand my kids a better country than go for another BS bandaid. DC Tom: I hope you're right and this is just more posturing. My concern: It's a little late for this big ballsy kid of posturing. Now it's time to get the deal done. Shake hands with the other side and for once, just once, proclaim that this one is a win for the American people and not party. Or at least shake hands and blame the other guy for making you give in on things you didn't want to. -

Now Boehner is pulling back on the 4 trillion dollar deal. I'm telling you: Obama is going to get a lot of leverage out of this. The Republicans are being self-servingly idiotic. Raising taxes is part of any rational plan. -
She signed this document today. I hear next she's going to kiss white babies. Pander to the base baby! http://thinkprogress.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/The-Family-Leader-Presidential-Pledge.pdf

Illegal hits, playing with concussions will continue
Peace replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
From the down position, the first thing to make contact is often a head. It's not leading with a head that causes head hits, it's slapping, helmets colliding, head hitting the ground, knees hitting heads, etc. You're obsessing on concussions, which is not the bigger issue anymore. The accumulative hits to the head are now showing up as a huge factor in brain damage. Poor tackling form will not solve the problem for kids. -
You broke the streak. Damn you.

Raise The Debt Limit Already!

If, and it's still a big if, Obama can take credit for negotiating a deal that really addresses the debt, he can combine that with Obamacare, killing OBL, "saving" economy from Bush mess, and withdrawing many troops from Middle East to make a pretty hard-to-beat incumbent. -

One thing it's safe to assume: None of the actual plan will go into effect until after the election. Put it off, put it off. Speaking of which, 2013 is when Obamacare really kicks in right? When will Congress start tackling that future B word? -

Listening and then acting are all part of leading. He had to cut out the Dems to move this forward because they won't compromise. Now we'll see if the Republicans will STFU and raise taxes like is clearly needed. If Obama gets both sides to blink and pisses off the Congressional Dems in the process, he will deserve a lot of credit. Put it this way: Despite his many failures, I'm rooting pretty damn hard that he and the Congressional Reps can come up with a real plan. His involvement and end-run around his party leaders is the first great development we've seen. Since he jumped in, you've got talk about more aggressive spending cuts and also concessions that taxes need to be raised. Reasonable people knew fixing the debt problem would require both and now we're finally hearing that both might be part of the plan. Just hoping we might get this right. And again, if we do: Obama will deserve credit. -

This latest negotiation by Obama directly with the Republicans is interesting. He's end-run his own party and trying to strike his own deal. Say what you want but that's taking the bull by the horns and leading. It will be interesting to see if the Congressional Dems fall in line if he hammers out a deal. In the end, he's right to step in because the groupthink that is the Dem party won't concede on drastic spending cuts. A single executive, however, can cut through that BS. If Obama pulls off a meaningful compromise plan, he could well start to win back some Independent voters. It's a huge political move to the center if he pulls it off. Kind of excited to see if a good plan of cuts and new taxes new revenues by closing loopholes (who are they kidding with this nonsensical word game) ends up on the table. -
Howard Stern vs Mel Karmazin in court

Yep, not as funny as the Artie years but still the only one of his kind and 1000% better than anyone else. Good luck to Sirius if they break with him.
