Going to the Rally to Restore Fear/Sanity
Peace replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I was talking about the base of people at the rally. The critique from kegtapr was that he should have done more with the rally. My point is that when the idea is to go forth and behave like reasonable adults, you don't light a "go kick their ass" bomb under the attendees because that's not what the rally is about. -

Time for NFL to ban Time out just before Kick!
Peace replied to turbobike's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wahmbulance drivers: What would the new rule be? "Coaches can't call timeouts before field goal attempts." Stupid. What if the coach sees a screwed up formation or too many men on the field. He can call a TO any other time for that but not on a FG? "Coaches can't call timeout under 10 seconds." Again, dumb. How can a coach not be allowed to call a timeout late in the game. That is a critical part of the game for a coach. "Coaches can't call a timeout within two seconds of a field goal snap." How the hell would anyone know when the snap was going to happen to know if the TO was legit. "Coaches can't call timeout if the FG will allow the other team to take the lead." Now we're just into the realm of asinine. Face it wahmbulancers, you're just sore because it's the Bills. -
One of the huge knocks against McNabb in Philadelphia was his not bad, but horrific end of game management. He had no concept of time and didn't get his first 4th quarter comeback victory until 2008 (10 years into his career). Donovan is a good QB but not at all clutch.

When looking at the defensive problems, Whitner is a ways down the list of issues that need to be addressed. I understand Bill grinding the axe on a dumb #8 pick but Donte is one of the decent players on this terrible defense. Not that he's a great player but when I think of things that are wrong with the Bills defense, he's down the list. Annoying because he was a dumb pick for sure, but down the list.

Waaaah. People are whining because it happened to the Bills. It's a dumb rule that you can call a timeout to your advantage? Waaaah. -
DC Tom completes conner.

I am still weighing exactly that logic. Every candidate is imperfect. I'm trying to decide if I can swallow casting my vote his way. One of my problems is that incumbents win for a long, long time to come and I'm not sure I can take 3 decades of Toomey.
-
You have no idea what I am. I am not a centrist. And you probably think that OCinBuffalo is a Republican or Tea Partier, and yet he's pro Union.

Like the Emperor turning Luke. "Let the hate flow through you."
-
You already hate me. I've just tried to turn over a new leaf in the Stewart/reasobnableness vein. It's challenging.

YOU are the VERY REASON people were attracted to that rally. YOU are the problem. YOU YOU YOU.

PA has proven notoriously hard to poll in the last decade. I won't be shocked by either race. A Sestak win would upset me.

Agree that they could have done a lot. It's hard to have a rally for rationale behavior...most rallies by definition are supposed to leave you all charged up to go do extreme things. "I am Jon Stewart. Yeah, I've heard 'em all. I got Obama elected and was vital in the launch of MTV's Remote Control. But let me ask: Are you feeling reasonable? Are you willing to acknowledge that opposing points of view arent' evil? Can you have a civil discussion without stomping a head or needing to be tasered? Yeah? Then I ask you, will you now calmly disperese, go to your homes, and kindly and respectfully engage in civil discourse with your enemies? Then go forth and do it!" FREEDOM! Really. How do you fire up a base bent on reasonable behavior? -
Jackson is the best RB on the roster and he is good. The Bills aren't a great team so of course his numbers arent' great. Look at McFadden for a comparison about what happens to a RB when a team improves. Did you see Lynch's numbers yesterday? 9 carries, 7 yards!

Waaaah waaaah waaaah waaaah waaaah -
I take Sestak and Onorato in PA. Corbett and Onarato are very similar. I reviewed the debates and their positions. Not sure either is going to change anything appreciably. (BTW, the first question of their last debate is "Would you allow hunting on Sundays?" No kidding. The pressing issues facing our PA Governors.) I don't know if I can pull a lever for either Sestak or Toomey. Toomey's a social Republican to the core (even voted for a Constitutional Amendment to define marriage...extreme douchebaggery). Sestak is a Union shill. Between them, I prefer Toomey just because most of his BS social positions won't move forward and he's fiscally conservative. On the overall success of challengers, I'll stick with this being a watershed year and challengers will beat incumbents in 10-15% of Congressional races.

Waah mbulance. -
Overreact much boy wonder? Obama was not "crushed." He wasn't even beaten. He got some middle of the plate heat. On issues he's dealt with a million times. "Crush" was your characterization. It was a poor choice of words "Smug MFer."
-
You mean the Obama image of guys in top hats toasting each other with Dom Perignon over an echoing chorus of "Muahahahaha."
-
Pretty sure they've been doing that, no?
-
Obama came across as bright and able to roll with the punches. I admire that in him. I don't find him a great president but I do like that about him--he's got a media savvy and sense of humor.
-
Don't draw me into your immature attacks on others. Deal with your petty battles on your own.
-
And yet his news commentary is one of the best on TV because it caters to viewers with brains. If you don't wish more interviews with Obama would be done the way Stewart did his, there may be something wrong with you. Stewart made Obama talk about the issues, including some of the hotter topics. Obama looked presidentially smart in rolling with a few jokes. The interview reminded me of a lighter-hearted version of the best political interviewer I ever saw: Tim Russert. Quick, smart, and not afraid to tread uncomfortable ground.
