This is a politically motivated but GREAT idea. So far 11 or so cuts have been proposed. Pretty much all are little anti-Dem bombs but the Dems voted them all down, the most recent being cutting NPR funding. (Other programs have been cutting signage spending regarding all the "This was paid for by Stimulus money" signs and cutting federal gov't raises. http://republicanwhip.house.gov/YouCut/ I wonder if/when the Dems will offer a rival site and propose cutting Republican bull **** programs. If anyone actually starts cutting some things, this could be awesome.

I am that I am.

Let me be the first to nominate the poster formerly known as VABills as R2-D2. No one can understand him but he's kind of well-liked.. He's diminutive (Translation for VABills: that means "short").

The worst deficit reduction plan ever!

Cool. Did it. Only took a few minutes. Had to click a few boxes I wouldn't have wanted but that's life. -
Actually it's "pique." It seems like "peak" makes sense there but the expression is the former.
-
Don't tell that to several people posting in this thread. If you don't like Palin, you're a liberal.

"The other guy did it." That always adds so much to solving the problem. -
Yes. Plenty of calls for Reich on WGR when Kelly played poorly. You can say in retrospect that they were a small voice but that's not true. There was always a decent chorus of "Reich always plays well and we need consistency."

We rich people have been reaping all the benefits of the social programs for years! That's why we're so rich. -
Am I the only person who keeps seeing an extra "ers" on this thread title?

Too funny. Noooo...there is ...good..in you. I .... feel ... it.

First, %$^& you for making me read the post of a poster I have on ignore. And second, $%^& him for calling me a liberal.

I know you love the neverending one on one thread (You and TPS have pioneered the art). Please don't take my short response as agreeing with the points I don't fire back on. I'm just picking a few things. I stick to my statement that she is NOT bright but perhaps I should be more specific. Somewhere in this thread I give her credit for being driven and power hungry in a pretty insane way. She is smart enough to tap into her populism and take full advantage of it. Where she's dumb is in her understanding of world events, economics, history, etc. It is NOT hard to list the publications you read--how is that in any way the fault of McCain's handlers. "What publications do you read?" {Palin: Oh wait, what should I say? I could really hurt McCain with this answer.} Really? Seriously? The media conspiracy thing is lame. Palin opened the door to the characterizations. She delivers a really good speech. I have seen her in person and in interviews and she CANNOT think on her feet. If the answers are drilled into her head, she pops out a good response. If not, the eyes glass up and she pops out a prepared answer to some other question. Of course a socialized system would have something like a death panel. Don't do your douchey thing of putting words in my mouth. I never said Stewart is a legitimate news outlet. I expect this kind of crap from you but every once in a while I hope for better. Guess I was wrong.

Grilled? Loaded question? She was asked what publications she reads. A reasonably intelligent person can rattle off a few. "I read quite a few. The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Alaskan Dispatch, USA Today. I also try to keep an eye on Newsweek and the Economist. And I peruse a few online sites like Google News and Yahoo News that run stories from all over." I typed all that as it flowed from my head. She's not very bright. And no, I don't think she could rattle off those publications because she was not reading them. That was VERY clear before she entered the national spotlight. She was a provincial figure with no eye on the national pulse. That was and is, frankly, her charm. But it is also a problem when you're going to be 2nd in line for the president. Palin proved over and over again that she was not adept and well-thought-out on the national scene. She gave great speeches (my wife and I were blown away by her acceptance speech when she appeared in Ohio). But when asked to think for herself in debates or in interviews, she consistently floundered unless she had the correct cue-card ready. In the debates, she was a robot, trotting out her prepared responses and never ad-libbing a single point or reacting to what Biden was saying. Palin's down-home common sense is appealing. As I've said before, I agree with a fair amount of what she says. But she is NOT worthy of serious political office.

Sarah Palin is not an extremist except in the categories of intelligence (lack) and power-hunger. I was leaning McCain because I felt I could stomach voting for him to help insure Obama didn't win. When he picked Palin, I voted for neither McCain nor Obama. I let my vote go to Libertarian even though Bob Barr would be third in that group because he's an untrustwothy worm. But I figured at least voting for the Libertarians was a nod to the group I most sympathize with. McCain was not an ideal choice by any means but I had more confidence in his ability to deal with the economy than Obama.
-
I was leaning to voting for him until he picked Palin. At that point, I was left with no acceptable compromise between the major party choices.
-
McCain wasn't an extremist. He just wasn't a great candidate and when he chose Palin, the independents said no.
-
What Magox just said. Palin is saying a lot of the right stuff but she's unelectable. Independents (me) would rather cast a null vote than vote for her or Obama. Both are detestable in too many ways. Tongue-speaking creationist not-so-bright charismatic right-populist quitter vs. smart socialist egomaniacal charismatic left-populist. No thanks.

My apolgoies then. Especially if you get a small percentage of the money they print. -
Honestly, I was giving her the benefit of the doubt on the heat driving her out. I thought the issue was that she was having to mount her own legal defense fund for all the lawsuits filed against her. I've never voted for a Democrat in my life but keep going. You obviously have an active fantasy life. So wait. When she quit in 2009, it was to be a central figure in a movement? I thought she quit because she didn't want to put Alaskans through the torture of being governed by a "lame duck governor." That's your girl's excuse at the time. Your worst enemy is your friend on this topic. Who said it was "OK" to leave office to run for president? Not me.
-
Very sensitive about your girl. She was elected right? Shortly after, she quit, right? Now answer: Is that an admirable quality in an elected official? By the way Wil. E. Coyote, she didn't quit her job "to pursue higher office" unless you mean she quit her job 4 years in advance of a presidential run, which would take some measure of eff-the-voters chutzpah. As to your "When anyone else does it that's fine, when she does it she's the scum of the Earth?" argument, that's the conner thought process again. This thread's about Palin.
-
See, now I've let you conner things up because I'm responding. I see her quitting her job--not because she got a promotion (senator to president)--but because the pan was getting a little hot, is a different move. If she stays talking head, who cares (Spitzer is a talking head now FFS)? But if she runs for office, it should be a huge issue to quit your job right after the people elected you.

Understood. For the highest price areas, 500K is jack squat. No part of the plan is perfect. -
That agreement is going to be key. The Republicans and Tea Partiers/Independents could split votes. For example, the Tea Partiers could pick Palin (or more realistically Christie) and the Republicans could go with a Boehner type and hand the presidency to Obama on a silver platter. It's how Clinton beat Bush I--Perot siphoned off Bush's votes.
-
You've been hanging out here too long. That is a PPP-ific argument usually undertaken in this manner: Poster a: "Obama is spending us into oblivion. Can you defend this?" conner: "Bush spent a lot of money." Poster a: "Umm, I'm talking about Obama." conner: "I am right, you are wrong. Nana nana." No. That she quit her job is just one thing. One you can't respond to except some BS about how she is doing it to save the country or something. Not a liberal. And not a fan of your argument defending Palin because she cares about the greater good. She definitely has a bigger impact as a commentator after quitting on the people who voted for her. I mean: Look who's in the Dancing with the Stars final.
