Now you're talking although I'd like an IQ multiplier on that. No way Paris Hilton deserves more votes than me!

Ever notice that the NFL is a little protective of its brand, broadcast rights, images... Try: The NFL is the perfect model of capitalism. A very few incredible talents get together and maximize their wealth by making it an exclusive club. Doesn't sound like socialism to me. Your argument about the NFL being socialist is like saying McDonalds is socialist because each franchise has essentially the same menu with the exact same prices. No, I note the attempt. And its failure. You accused me of taking seriously an article--written by a cartoonist--about absurd rewards for rich taxpayers. I am humbled by your wit.

Next up: Booster notices that the privileges article was written by a cartoonist.

Great QB coach top RB talent the best WR in the NFL and a stellar line...and he's only an OK QB. Fitz has been a good QB with much less talent. Why bother with a guy who can't succeed with top talent around him? Next.

Yes, we should get 4 tries at emplyment to make it to 100K/ year and then you have to stop working. Or, if you travel 100 miles in your car, the government should give you $6. WTF? Football is not real life. Next up: Butfex's dissertation on the relevance of Go Fish! to the situation in Egypt.

That's because doctors and utilities aren't publicly run. They understand that higher-paying customers deserve better service. I would like major highways cleared between 5:30-6:30 for anyone not employed.

Federal Commission on the Financial Crisis

No. No sarcasm at all. There is blame to go around but if you, Dave in Norfolk, take out a loan that you can't afford to pay back, it's your own stupid fault. It's the bank's fault for thinking you can but it's your fault for being so careless with your money. -
Hey But, maybe you haven't noticed but you're vehemently defending a former stand up comic who thinks that socialism will work in real life because it works in football. Think about that for a second. Is that really a position you endorse?

Yes Bill. A game is set up to be fair. Life doesn't have absurd arbitrary rules like that though.

Airplanes aren't a public utility but I like where this is headed. I want portions of my local park temporarily cordoned off by income.

Based on this winter, I would take more care plowing my richer street. And also better parking on busy streets.

This is always the issue. Taxing me is done at gunpoint. So Scott Adams suggests that at least the government offer the rich a reach round as it effs them. Not the worst idea I ever heard. Some of his suggestions are funny and others aren't bad. My favorite is that the poor have to write the rich thank you notes...obviously more in the humor category but a nice lesson nevertheless. Adams's idea is to brainstorm ways to trade more taxes for privileges. Bad ideas he says often lead to good. BTW the snarky and obvious cut spending response is a given. We have all seen how no one is willing to ever do that. So we might as well get used to higher taxes. They are coming at some point. And if the left and right ever really cut spending, it will just be a bonus. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703293204576106164123424314.html?mod=igoogle_wsj_gadgv1articleTabs%3Darticle

Shh, those are voters you're talking about. To reinforce this point, about 5 years ago, my wife and I were considering moving into a different house. We went through the pre-approval exercise and got pre-approved for a 720,000 mortgage and was reassured that with our credit, we could get much more if we needed to. I can tell you right now that I couldn't afford close to a 700K house, let alone more...but some bank stood ready to loan me the money. -
Birddog, only your first buy counts so far. After hours trading is not fair. You haven't abused it but after hours trading could cheat the system. Someone could buy at the close price on after hours news. And I don't want to deal with the futures markets at all. So you're entered with the first trade but the last two at 11 and 8pm don't count. Sorry but I know you understand.

2.5 trillion in spending cuts over 10 years
Peace replied to erynthered's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
You put a lot of words in my mouth. Cuts doesn't mean elimination. Yet. You should get less. We can't afford it. Whose fault is it that social security didn't get fixed in the last 40 years when it's been broken? Ours dear voter. Yours and mine. The time to fix it is now. Turn the faucet down as it eventually reaches off. It's the entitled baby boomers who want it all. Their selfish butts probably will once again prevent fixing it, leaving the uber social security disaster for their grandkids along with the debt disaster also ignored in their hands, but who cares right? As long as you get yours. Why couldn't Woodstock have been like a giant roach motel. But with great bands. "Boomers check in but they don't check out. " You do. 95% incumbent reelection rates are the lion share of that problem. Stop voting the same people in and they will stop stroking themselves on your dime. -
Hahahahahaha. Come on man. Every Droid user I know--even the ones who love it--admit to frequently needing to remove the battery to reboot, freezes, etc.

The light books by Bryson are funny--albiet light. His Brief History of Nearly Everything, however, is an incredible accomplishment. He condenses the universe timeline from the Big Bang to us into an easy-to-understand read that covers much of the science behind everything that got us to arrive here on earth. Even its scientific faults (some of his Gould evolution stories are off) can be forgiven in view of the massive undertaking he accomplished. If there's an easier to read but accurate book about science from quantum physics to evolution to biology, I can't imagine what it is.

OK--just buy by next week.

I neglected to recommend another easy but fascinating Rome book: A Day in the Life of Ancient Rome. The author starts at sun up and walks through an average day (for a wealthy person) until sun down. He takes a few chapters here and there to reflect on the conditions of more and less wealthy people but it's great in its attention to detail from taking a dump to putting on makeup to food specifics.

Yes. Chester is obviously rough but the parking is safe and the stadium is beautiful. You drive in and drive out. I take my 9 year old daughter and think nothing of it. (But I wouldn't walk around the neighborhood either.) That video is the best for the laughter at the end. Soccer, Philly style. That crowd doesn't stop chanting for 2 hours at the game. It's cool.

In the African genocide vein, What is the What and...whatever the book that the movie Hotel Rwanda was based on are good personal stories. What is the What was incredible--hard to believe what those Sudanese boys went through. Someone mentioned the sort of feel good middle age book. You might try Three Cups of Tea.
