YES there is a passing scheme and Chain Gailey HAS PROVED IT which can reduce pressure on the QB and it is in a short passing system with 3 step drop under center and shotgun in spread (quick slants, drag routes, bubble screens etc). Do you notice this is what Chan Gailey is doing and it is basically plug in play with personelle for the most part with the exception of the QB. You need the quarterback and I don't see why cutler couldn't run a system like this. Martz system intermediate to long routes with a dump off option to the RB. It is certainly part of the problem with a bad line.

Martz scheme is directly related to high sack totals. If you don't have a line and the surrounding personelle, his scheme DOESNT WORK. When the Rams were most dominant , so was their line. In 1999 when the Rams were out of this world dominant, they were ranked 25th. A high ranking number is good. I have his history below and it is staggering how many sacks his system gives up. IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE PERSONELLE HIS SYSTEM DOESN'T WORK AND YOU NEED TO ADJUST ACCORDINGLY. I can't think of any teams in today's game that can rely on 6 or 7 step drops anymore. Times have changed and he doesn't change his system. That's one of the problems right now in Chicago. http://www.footballnation.com/content/greatest-show-into-turf-mike-martz-and-sacks/9838/ Here is a quote from Ditka. "He's shell-shocked," Ditka said. "He's making mistakes that he normally wouldn't make and I think it's because of the pressure. He's trying to do too much and you can't do anything because of the pass protection and the way the plays are designed. If you're going to sit back there and take a seven-step drop every time, the ball has to come out." http://espn.go.com/chicago/nfl/story/_/id/7002233/chicago-bears-mike-martz-jay-cutler-downfall Now by this quote you have a QB that can't play in his scheme either. See the problem? You need to make adjustments and I haven't seen them from them. These 7 step drops were problems last year.

Oh and another thing that falls on coaching and what I don't like about the style Martz has cutler playing is with the deep drops from under center and bad offense line, he won't have enough time to step into the pocket. This is key for accuracy. If you notice with Cutler he throws off his back foot a lot. And what do you know? He is known to throw a lot of interceptions. Again this is mostly coaching and devising a good scheme with the players you have rather than devising a scheme with your own ego.

Wrong. If the defense applies pressure or no pressure, the base design of their passing plays is cutler taking 6 or 7 steps back in the pocket from under center. Martz style of offense relies on an elite offensive line like that with the rams with Pace. With a bad offensive line this is just a poor scheme. Martz is living in the past with the greatest show on turf. Unfortunately he does not have the personelle to do what he liked with the Rams. Good coaching and a good scheme of that around your players makes A HUGE DIFFERENCE. Just look at what Chan Gailey is doing with our offense. 2 or 3 step drops under center with precise timing routes or a spread offensive out of shotgun and getting the ball out in a matter of seconds. THE REASON our offensive line is succeeding is because of the scheme of getting the ball out super fast. Martz inability to adjust to his offensive line is why he should be getting a lot of the flack as well.

The sack numbers and constant pressure is surely partially to blame on Martz because of his offensive scheme and his unwillingness to change. If you watch Cutler, their passing attack relies on 6-7 step drops. You can't do this in today's NFL. Totally ridiculous!!!

Great post bro! You are correct. The reason we are successful in the passing game is because of the Fitzy getting the ball out VERY quickly. This is because of Chans scheme and his assistants. It relies on precise route running, most notably "setting legal pics" and/or Fitz finding the mismatch. It's nice having a bunch of receivers where they don't demand catches. This offense relies on exploiting the best matchup and getting the ball to them. No forcing the ball to certain players a la Evans.

I agree. Jackson is playing out of his mind right now. Lynch wouldn't see anymore time that what spiller has been. Actually I would think Lynch would be basically a non-factor on this team because of the style of offense Chain Gailey uses. Spiller fits his system as you can spread him out. BTW Spiller has filled his role quite well on some nice underneath pass patterns in the spread offense and when he has ran it is for some decent gains. Spillers yards per run is quite high actually.

It looks like the Pack are the best team in the NFL right now. We are riding high in Buffalo right now. PS You can tell everyone that Barnett is going to be in Hawaii. He is just having a great year. Totally a difference maker and one of the reasons for this start.

Current WR Free Agents

The kickoff rule has literally killed the KR game because we learned yesterday that Chan Gailey does not want him to return the ball if it is a few yards back in the endzone. This is why he rarely returns the football. Just obeying his coach. Brad Smith should not be used as a WR. In in order to use him properly is in the wildcat in short yardage situations and in the redzone which has proved to be very successful so far. -
Actually a high powered spread offense that doesn't give up the ball a lot and an opportunistic defense that produces a lot of turnovers but gives up a lot of total yardage were sustainable for many recent teams in the superbowl and some winners of it all. This is what the trend of this Bills team is. Cardinals, Saints, Colts (the year they won it against Chicago with the worst run defense in the league), Packers.

Guy is making some plays.

We don't need to sign anyone. Just insert Spiller and Rosevelt. Spiller is great underneath in the the Bills short passing game. He fits right in with our passing philosphy. He has been deadly on quick slants and drags and posses problems for LB's because of his speed.

Donald Jones injury information

Spiller has shown to be effective when used in the spread offense. He is very good on drag routes, quick screens, quick slants etc and would fit in great with the short passing scheme Chan has installed with the offense. Spiller also adds a lot of speed to the passing game. -
Would you purposely give yourself cancer?

We are giving up a ton of yards this year especially in the passing game but there are some key positives we can take through five games. Most importantly TURNOVERS and turnovers trumps total yardage against every time. GO BILLS!

I like Chan but he has totally underutilized Brad Smith so far and when he has been on the field mis-utilized being used as a WR. There were some key 2nd and 3rd and shorts last week and the week before where Smith should have been put in the game in the wild-cat. He has only picked up the first down 100% of the time. When our passing game is struggling I would like to see some different formations with Spiller and Smith utilized together. IMO utilizing Smith as a WR is the WORST move you can possibly do. I am not disappointed with how Smith has played at all, just disappointed with Gailey in how much and how he has used him in situational moments. This was a great signing and if used properly, like he was in NY is a game changer. Who do you think they miss the most off that roster from last year?

Will there ever be a lee Evans sighting?
BuffaloBillsForever replied to Glamslam's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was being extremely sarcastic. I agree, his ability was vastly overrated while he was a Bill but I think there are more people that are coming to that agreement now. -

If you would have actually watched last nights Ravens vs Jets game you would have noticed how he single-handedly changed the entire dynamic of that rivalry. Didn't you see Revis and the safety pull its coverage over to the sideline when they seen him take off the protective boot? -
I have always thought Sanchez was nothing special than a bottom two or top 3 tier quarterback. Everything revolves around the Jets offensive line and he was playing without the center. Not having Brad Smith I think also hurts them quite a bit. He usually turned the momentum around when the offense struggled to move the football.
-
Probably not. I'm into the Gin at this time of the year. Alcohol doesn't make me delusional especially comparing a player that has a history of being an elite pass rusher (OSI) to an average at best Kelsay. Average being used rather loose.
-
LOL Comparing Osi to Kelsay is the worst football comparison EVER. Two totally different football players. Kelsay is not even a starting caliber DE or LB.
-
Agree. Osi is one heck of a player. If we can't get him straight up for a 2nd round pick or a combo 2 and 3 I would be all over that.
