  1. Does anyone like Peter King? I cannot stand him -- master of the obvious, no meaningful insight, ever. I'd better be careful though... I don't want to upset his loyal fans (both of them).
  2. You clearly should have started this thread.
  3. So he didn't have the simple decency to say "yeah, I missed on that one" (which is super-easy for a sportswriter to do, given that it's their job to issue opinions and impressions daily), and instead he was thin-skinned and uppity about it? Nice...
  4. A recent thread surfaced something mildly interesting... who out there has a household pet named for a Bills player, or something related to the team... and what name did you use? (apologies if I missed a prior thread on this topic) Sadly I cannot start it... Marshawn the fish (named by one of my sons when he was 6) met with an untimely demise.
  5. Bingo. Contrast this with this.
  6. Yes - Snyder has definitely been a weasel with lawsuits and whatnot. He has been anything but likable. He turned off a lot of folks with the way he wrung every nickel out of the fan base, making it so you can't say "redskins" without him sending you a bill. He dumped a GREAT radio guy (Frank Herzog) in favor of a sycophant who sounds like Cameron Frye on the phone to the principal in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. And his field goal kicking exploits are well documented (with his former GM serving as holder!... as if to say "how hard can this be?") All that said, it seems that Synder is making a lot less noise than he used to, though. I think the folks he brought in have managed to shut his piehole... for now. His involvement in player matters -- though passionate and well intentioned -- has been toxic, and it seems that he is less involved now. Through these tough losses, Chan has achieved the appearance of strong team unity, with no infighting (that we can see), no discernable dissention in the ranks, and no passivity/bland acceptance of poor play. That is positive. Now all he needs is Ws to make the progress more tangible.
  7. I'm in northern VA, so I get a lot of Skins coverage here... and despite recent problems, I think the Skins will pull through because they finally have accomplished football people calling the football shots (Dan Snyder appears to have been shoved back into his owner's box, by all appearances). They're investing in their O-line, and they will probably get out of their McNabb deal within a year or two. Allen & Shanahan inherited the Haynesworth mess and will likely find a way out at year's end. I think the difference lies in expectations. Because of the noise the Skins make (due to their annoying owner, who is a marketing guy above all else), and because of the players they draw (again due to their annoying owner, who has overspent on veterans for a decade), people expect them to improve. They are definitely a better team than a year ago, though. But, like many here, I think Shanahan is overrated... but he's not a bad football coach either. One thing I do like out of Snyder -- he has been a Skins fan since birth, and he wants his team to win with all his guts, and his wallet. By all appearances, the same cannot be said of Ralph. Two final thoughts: 1) Despite the W/L record, I think Nix & Gailey have earned a lot of respect, and I think they can get this thing turned around with a couple good drafts. Despite the losses, they seem to be making some progress in the culture, as weird as that sounds. A few more games like Sunday's loss to the Vikes, however, and they could lose the troops. 2) I absolutely hate being in the Redskins' market.
  8. Yeah... last 2 years here.
  9. Perhaps not best characterized as a rant, but howsabout Buddy Ryan punching Kevin Gilbride in the head: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPK3cDl7Ftw And BTW, someone tell Mike Patrick that the camera is a few inches lower than whatever he's looking at.
  10. Is it bad form to call attention to this thread after today's game?
  11. Being a Bills fan is like being stoned to death with popcorn.
  12. Our RBs are grate, but I sure miss watching Thurman Munson back there.
  13. Bingo! Stevie runs a great route, and seems to adjust better to balls in the air. The truly great WRs (like Andre Johnson) put it all together & go get the ball when it's anywhere in the vicinity. Andre Johnson is also fwiggin huge, and can better withstand the pounding he gets when finding soft spots in zones.
  14. I think Fitzenheimer is a great QB.
  15. #21 should be "is confident." Better that than "big ego". A Qb that conveys any lack of confidence is poisonous to a team. If we make #22 "must have an abnormally large beard" we're all set.
  16. #1 is Jim Brown. A man among boys. It seemed like Walter Payton initiated as many hits as he received... that kept him injury free for a long time.
  17. Trump weighs in: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5870539
  18. YES. Keep the throwbacks as the everyday unis. It's a sentiment that's been posted a lot on this forum, but I will gladly beat that drum with you.
  19. Exactly! All of us were sick to our stomachs after this game, and it's great to see someone on the team share in that visibly. Here's hoping he works harder and keeps this game as a constant reminder, which will propel him forward.
  20. Lindell will be fine, most likely. If he keeps having problems, he'll have to fight to earn the roster spot next year, rather than have it be "his to lose", as has been the case for a few years now. Rian's recent kicking has been annoying, but not urgently bad. If he starts costing the team games in rapid succession, he'll be out. Until then, we should all be cool.
  21. Right. How many WRs picked in the top 5 have turned out to be worth that high a pick? Andre Johnson stands out as perhaps the only one I'd say might be worth it (picked at #3)... but that's in a situation where they had very little talent at the position (clearly not the case in Buffalo). Generally, mid-to-late round WRs do fine. Don't forget WNY's new favorite guy Stevie Johnson was a 7th rounder. For first-round money, the investment in the D-line has a much better payoff potential.
  22. Q: How many Brett Favres does it take to change a light bulb? A: Just one. Brett is just a down-home regular guy who changes light bulbs all the time. He puts his Wrangler jeans on one leg a time. And he wrecks NFL franchises one city at time.
  23. Go with the streak... http://www.buffalorumblings.com/2010/11/17/1819659/bills-havent-lost-to-bengals-since-1988 Bills, outright.
  24. On the whole, these are Arena-League-Lame. Jets & Raiders look pretty good. I hope the Dolphins take the suggested look, b/c it is hilariously bad. All the goofy stripes on the Bills one though... yuck. Can't we just standardize on the throwbacks & be done? The only halfway cool innovation in here is the steel-print helmet for Pittsburgh... but they have a solid tradition that will prevent this craziness. The Schutt helmet is one of the new ones that's supposed to be safer, I think. Doesn't the exclusive NFL/Riddell helmet deal end this year?
