  1. Exactly. No reason to make holes when there's enough to fill up front already. The Bills are a better team moving forward w/ him on the roster, thus allowing the FO to get bodies on the line. For those who don't like Donte, don't let your hate cloud the fact there is no viable replacement on the roster that can step in and match his contributions to the team. It seems most of the haters are drawing from all five years instead of his season this year where his play is visibly better.
  2. I certainly would. One less hole to fill. Why create holes and fill them with less-talented players? Wilson and Scott are nice backups. Well, in all three games we've won this year he's had a big play. 1) Deflects pass v Detroit that gets picked. 2) Lays out Shipley/ jarring out ball ending any comeback hope. 3) Stuffs Hillis on goal-line forcing FG. Can you throw some names out there? He never said he was not replaceable.Just was looking for some clarity into the negotiations.
  3. Aside from Jahvid best, who's started from day one, your comparison sucks. The only reason Chris Ivory saw the field was because of Pierre's injury. Blount is playing more because Williams and Grahm have been banged up all year. They both are avg. backs at best, too. Spiller came into a rookie-unfriendly situation with two 1,000 backs ahead of him. I'm not defending him at all, just pointing out how useless your comparison was.
  4. Not assuming anything. I merely stated that not giving him a reasonable offer would not be in line with their publicly stated roster-building strategy. Now that is quite the assumption. Remember that most of these guys like Twitter, unlike the curmudgeons who despise social media and/or kids walking across their front lawns. Now I would assume that players don't like it when TO goes on his nationally broadcast TV show to call-out the owner and the coaches. Remember, most of the stuff Donte says is not news to anyone outside of this board. We choose to actively look at and debate his tweets. I doubt too many of his teammates do the same.
  5. Exactly. It's easy to assume that Wilson/Scott will replace Whitner w/o much of a drop off in production (a point in which I disagree on). But what do you do to replace the roster spot these guys filled. Depth is a huge concern for a talent-starved roster like the Bills. It is extremely counterproductive to let a good player go and have to draft a lower-round guy to replace the depth the solid back-ups (now starters) provided. Even worse, as you point out, is the message this sends to the young guys and any potential FAs interested in the Bills. I believe it was Nix who stated many times the Bills prefer to reward their own talent. Not giving Whitner a reasonable offer would go in the face of this strategy. Who do we think is more personable and "buddy-buddy" with the young guys. Whitner or Kelsay? Don't think for a second that Donte isn't talking about this or having guys ask him about what he meant by those comments. This sucks.
  6. Does anyone really see Cam Newton making quick decisions and delivering the ball with accuracy in the face of an oncoming defender? I just don't. I'll admit, his passing stats are very good, but I just don't see him making quick decisions like the top 1/2 of QBs, or even Fitz, can do. And the people who say, "well, Vick finally got better and did it" should realize that Vick has a solid o-line. Most of his passing is down the field stuff, not quick hitting, smart read stuff that Gailey has molded the offense around.
  7. That is exactly my rationale. We don't need a Ngata type of signing to surge forward. But adding a starter or two via FA is huge. I felt like he was a mid/ to upper-mid level signing at first, but now I think he's looking at a 40mil type of contract. Probably way too much. I just think getting someone like him has such a positive trickle-down affect on the roster and drafting procedure.
  8. I usually never hinge my posts or thoughts centered around one specific player, especially when it comes to free agency with the Bills. However... Much of the chatter on the board has centered around the defense and the need to upgrade it at specific positions, mainly LB and DL. I know Nix said he wasn't going to use FA as the primary rebuilding tool, but, signing a guy like Harris fixes the Bills in a number of ways. 1)Two ILB are set w/ him and Poz. Poz instantly becomes better. W/ Moats as a possible OLB, we only need one more starter. Those 3 form a young core w/ upside. 2) Allows us to pick in 2nd, or trade back into the 1st for quality OT. This cannot be understated. We need another starting quality tackle. 3) 1st pick can be DL w/o out worrying about reaching for OT or other position. Thus, we have a top 5 pick on DL and a new underrated/very good LB as starters going forward. This would be huge for the Bills. The Jets have allocated huge contracts to D'Brickshaw, Revis (plus more), and Mangold. They have publicly stated that Holmes and Edwards are high-priorities to sign this offseason. I suppose these can only be good things for the Bills. I've asked this before, does Rex think scheme > players. If so, make a push at this guy. Enjoy, debate, discuss, or hate.
  9. Dead on. If anything, Edwards should get some sliver of praise for his adjustments throughout games. Sometimes you just don't have the horses to win a race, as is the case w/ our defense. Adding a top D-lineman through the draft will help but better LBs across the board, Poz and Moats (I think) aside, will make a huge difference. A true dream scenario would be the Jets out-thinking themselves believing that extensions should go to Holmes and Edwards before they lock up David Harris. Maybe Rex thinks scheme > player. Who knows. But then again, this would require us to sign someone of worth in free agency...scratch this idea. Nonetheless, I suppose this is more plausible than those thinking Ngata reaches the market and the Bills having a chance to sign him.
  10. Thats a great point. During the 4th quarter, Freddy ran outside to the left and was waiting for Stevie to hold up his block but he couldn't do it. It looked like a play that if Freddy had got the corner he would have scored on. Lee makes that block.
  11. True. But Brady and Brees can make anyone look good. We don't have that luxury.
  12. The hit was away from the play and had/would have had, no affect whatsoever on the outcome of the return. So that angle really doesn't apply. If the play is coming towards him, by all means, fire at will. It was a bigger guy lighting up a punter for no reason. I'm not an advocate for the "wussification" of the league whatsoever. The play was simply stupid IMO.
  13. I too wasn't very clear about the rules on that type of play. One thing I am certain of is that was bush league on the part of Ganther.
  14. He single-handedly dominated Alabama. I don't know if they fit under your Ken West moniker. He may have had an off week last week, but I've seen him 3-4 times this year and not once did the word BUST come to mind. I wouldn't judge him so harshly bases on one game.
  15. Look at Marshawn's stats since he went to Seattle. Pedestrian, average at best.
  16. He plays every week. He has a lower leg injury.
  17. I agree with most of your points as well....However, Blaming Kelsay for not focusing on punching the ball seems a bit much all things considered. Moats shows an occasional flash of potential, but I'm not buying the praise so many have hit him with. And Coleman barely plays, but we should have a better idea today. Not buying the Leodis bashing, especially saying he should have waited for a block when he was going full speed. It's unfortunate, but Moats should have been gong full speed too.
  18. Corey Mcintyre has blocked extremely well. They have been splitting him out wide sometimes and he was managing Harrison and Woodley pretty well. That's smart coaching.
  19. I believe you mean the 7-4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And the Chargers are the better team, despite they being one game behind Tampa in the standings.
  20. Really? Guys with 16 sacks and his size don't come out every year. Nobody is comparing him to Bruce, and quite frankly, if he's half the player he is, we win. Getting him would allow us to get bigger and still use the 4-3 where Kyle Williams is most dominant. Kelsay-Troup-Williams-Bowers might prove to be pretty good. Carrington will only make that group better.
  21. Can anyone with an advertising/communications background help me with this... I agree with the posters that the best way to silence them is to not listen. Which is precisely what I do when 3pm rolls around. However, am I giving them ratings by listening to the morning show, which is decent, and Rome, which I love? It is cumulative or do shows have their own ratings? This may seem stupid, but I seriously don't know.
  22. Don't forget Mike Jenkins, who's been benched by the Cowboys. So at least we got that going for us. Also, and it appears by the way this thread is going that I'll be in the minority, I don't blame Leodis for tripping over Moats. He's going full speed and if you look, Moats is kind of just wandering around at 1/2 speed looking for someone to block. When he sees Leodis, he starts towards someone that is right in the path of where Leodis is going.
  23. Not any more than you want to grab Mallet.
  24. Really? or is the "..." sarcasm? I think his ability to cover would make Chris Kelsay look like Revis. He's a big guy, either 4-3 or 3-4 lineman all the way. Yes, he's a stud and would instantly step in and start.
  25. Yup, just ask Trent. Roscoe was a 2nd round pick, hardly a late rounder who worked hard to turn heads in camp. A pure luxury pick, the type that made many call for the head of TD. You're right on some things, I just don't know why you'd want to dump the current core in favor of the unknown. Lee is actually affordable from here on out, so keeping him makes fiscal sense. Remember, Stevie doesn't have 1/2 his stats w/o Lee. Also, despite strong reports early on in TC, I remember hearing quite a bit about Easley and his inability to hold onto the ball. That might be a sore subject to some around here of late...
